This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Now that the Vita is out in Japan, have any of the big sites imported it and made any hardware reviews or videos of it at all?

So i've been searching around the forums and have come up empty so far, but i'm curious dident Ni No Kuni come out for the PS3 over the holiday in Japan? I was kind of surprised there was no OT, or import impressions on Gaf unless they are in a thread, or post that I just missed.

Was I mistaken and it's not out yet in the east, did no one like it, or am I just missing it?

Judging from the sales, nobody bought it.

How long is Uncharted 3? Can it be played with a mouse and keyboard like some other PS3 games?

Its around 8 hours and can't be played with keyboard and mouse (by normal means).

I've got a QUESTION:
What games allow for full screen split screen using a 3DTV? I've checked, Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3 and they both don't have it. I really want to try it out...

I've got an easier question that I know a lot of Neogaf are experts on...

I'm craving a JRPG... I don't know why. The last one I played/enjoyed was FFIX! So, I'm a complete newb. I'm just craving those nice little stories you sometimes get with them and they almost feel like a good book. And I am a art design/graphics whore, but a lot of the JRPG's i've seen are really pretty.

Also, I'd prefer not horrendous voice acting, that's a little distracting. And nothing too heavy and serious (that's why I liked FFIX). So any suggestions? :) I have every console, w/ backwards compatibility. Thanks!

Which video files can the Vita play?

Can it play the same files the PS3 could or do I have to convert vids to mp4 again like the PSP?

Has anyone gotten Jagged Alliance 2 (Gold; I have both) to run on W Vista? I checked a few years ago and it didn't work, but maybe something changed.

I'm looking to replace the harddrive on my PS3 with a larger one. I read how to back up the data from the current drive onto an external HD, then on to the new drive. Does the external drive need to be totally blank to back up the data on? I have an external drive, but it has all my PC files on it.

Doesn't have to be blank, but it does have to be FAT32.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 for the PS2 might be good choice. The combat is command-based, just as in Final Fantasy IX, and it also has very likable characters and an interesting story. If you need more inspiration take a look at NeoGAF's Essential RPGs 2012.
Ah nice list. But I've been seeing a ton of JRPG's this gen that people keep talking about. So was that all for show? None of them are really appealing?

There are plenty of great Japanese RPGs from this generation, but based on your preferences you would likely prefer Persona 4 to any of them. Below is a list of Japanese RPGs from this generation that I've either completed or in a few cases only played enough of to form an opinion.

0tUZ1.gif

• Demon's Souls (PS3) - It's an amazing game, but the combat is in real-time and more similar to an action game.
• Dark Souls (360/PS3) - Sequel to Demon's Souls, and almost identical.
• Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP) - It's a strategy RPG and not what you're looking for.
• Valkyria Chonicles (PS3) - Another strategy RPG.

(At this point you might as well play an older, but also better, RPG from last generation)

• Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light (NDS) - Best (non-remake) Final Fantasy in a decade. Features charming graphics, likable characters and a job system.

• Radiant Historia (NDS)
• Resonance of Fate (360/PS3)
• Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor (NDS)

Although I haven't tried them myself, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey for the 360 received generally positive critique and they fit your requirements.

Wow awesome list, appreciate it!

This is also mainly for my GF to have something to play. And I showed her Eternal Sonata and she likes the look of it. You didnt seem to like it as much, is it worth it?

I absolutely loved the art style and the combat system is quite good, but it does have several serious flaws. The story and characters are awful, even if you're a fan of Frédéric Chopin. Dungeon design is very linear and there are a ridiculous low amount of enemy variety.

She might still enjoy it though, taste differs. Make sure you get the PS3 version of it. It features two extra playable characters, two new dungeons, and a less confusing ending.

I'm going to gift my little brother (11) my gamecube. Now i want to find some games he would like. I have Metroid Prime, and was thinking about getting Star Fox Adventures and Prince Of Persia - Sands Of Time, since these seem to be kid-friendly and are available cheap. (I'd love to get him wind waker but i am not paying 35 euros for a gamecube game)

So basically I'd love suggestions and recommendations. (Star Fox and Sands of Time are both good, right?)

Smash Bros Melee. Pikmin.

my younger brothers really dug the star fox game. There is also Super Mario Sunshine.

I've been playing a couple of jrpgs lately (love the genre, but never had much spare time before). Why is there always a situation where you'll encounter one of the main villains once (or sometimes multiple times) early in the game, beat the crap out of them, and then have them get away like nothing happened? They usually say dumb things like "you're still too weak" or "I don't have time for this/have more important things to do" or whatever before leaving, despite you overpowering them.

Just to offer a smalle counter-opinion to that list: I'd crank Etrian Odyssey up to the top rank myself, but it's a matter of taste; it's a very old-fashioned style of RPG, and that may be a turnoff.

Some days I'd give them

and other days I feel they're just too grindy and slow. I also really enjoyed the Wizardry game on PSN which is even more old-school.

Gaf, how come Japanese Nintendo console boxes only have cardboard at the top? Both my Japanese N64 and my Super Famicom have a polystyrene inner but the actual box only covers 5 sides, the other is left as bare polystyrene. The cardboard fits like a lid over the top.

I always wondered, are they sold like this in store or are mine missing something?

I can't for the life of me load any link or direct input to GMG.

I get basically a white blank page:

The service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

Now I can try VPN, so whats the best free VPN and how-to for it? Whats the rules buying that way.

So what's the deal with the JRPGs developed by Gust with weird French-sounding names? Ar tonelico... Atelier Rorona... I feel like no one talks about them but I keep seeing more of them pop up on shelves, it makes me suspect they're no good but they keep making more of them and there has to be enough interest in them for there to be such nice presentation and special edition releases. They tickle my curiosity but I have no clue where to start with them.

Are you sure it didn't say it does require the game disc? This is what Wikipedia says:

Sounds to me like only the disc-version can be played without a copy of the original game.

No, that's not quite right. The wikipedia article you're quoting is referring to the disc media for the game, but there is also a downloadable version. Neither requires a disc to play. From the Sony website:

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare standalone does not require a copy of Red Dead Redemption to play.

Update to this issue. I've called customer service three times over this issue. They have failed to provide me with any solutions to the technical problem yet have twice denied me a refund for the the content. I've spent half the time it would take to beat the game fighting customer service. I paid for a game to play during some much needed and earned relaxation time prior to the new semester kicking into gear, but have instead paid Sony for hours of frustration. I'll think long and hard before downloading anything from them again.

Is there any way to delete stuff from your PSN and XBL account history? I've downloaded tons of demos and other free things, and I just want to clear them from the list. It's kind of annoying :\

DOES ANYONE KNOW

If there is Red/Yellow/White Coaxial cables for the X-Box 360? I'm using the PS2 hook up for my PS3 and I need the same type of cables for the 360 so I can broadcast streams on my capture device dazzler.

Yes, the original 360's came with one cable for RCA and component. You can find some cables like that at Monoprice.

Is there a way I can dedicate my old 8800GTS to recording PC gameplay so I don't have to play with lowered frame rates while recording on my GTX570?

I didn't know whether or not to ask this on the OT or here.

I just got netflix on my PS3. There are a lot of things I want to stream. Problem is, I have a bandwidth cap, and I don't know how to set it to SD streaming instead of HD.

How do I change this?

I want to finally get a Wii, but I want to get an earlier model for backwards compatibility (right?). For some reason Amazon isn't selling any Wiis at the moment, even the newest bundles. Anyone know where I can get one for less than $150? I always see some on eBay but for some reason they almost always go for more than $150, even used ones. Why would I want to pay that when I can get a brand new model with Mario Kart or Super Mario Brothers for $150? I wanna get my Wii on

They do still make backwards compatible Wiis, you know. :P You shouldn't have much trouble getting a new Mario Kart Wii bundle with GameCube BC. All the bundles are the same price, $150. There were a bunch of sales before Christmas for $25 off or something, but I don't think it gets much lower than that.

There's something I quite don't understand about resolutions.
Let's take Bioshock for example.
On the back of the case it says it supports 1080p.
I didn't try to play the game a this resolution, but I don't need to do it to know that the game runs at 720p native (if not less).
I know it has something to do with upscaling and terms like this, but I don't really understand what's behind it.

would someone care to explain?

I was wondering if anyone could give me advice in a good component cable to hdmi converter. I need for my Wii. I've seen that somewhere on gaf, but I can't remember where.

When I start up Civ 5 in Steam it always asks if I want to use directX 9 or directX 10/11, with directX 10/11 as the "recommended option'. My question is, would selecting directX 9 be a better choice if I don't care about pretty graphics and just want better performance, and is there a way to have the game automatically select one so I don't have to do it manually everytime. I'm a big 'ole Steam n00b.

With the new Xbox update, I can't seem to figure out how to "install to hard drive" like before. Now all Y does is search. I've been searching and searching, but can't pull up anything on this (most results come up with 2008-era xbox piracy results).

Did they take the feature out, or maybe it's just my disc?
