This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

stuck in there, can't move :/

Open the console, type tcl (activates clipping mode) move to a safe place, and type tcl into the console again to deactivate it.

I got a question regarding emulation.

Why is it, we haven't seen any PS3 or 360 emulators?

Also, given the fact that next gen consoles seem to be using PC architecture, does that mean emulation will be easier?

Stupid question:

Why does this thread appear in both gaming and off-topic, and why was the off-topic thread locked?

I dunno, the off topic one was very useful for people. I think it was closed to encourage discussion of things in separate threads, rather than have a catch-them-all thread. I guess this thread is still around because its gaming side (the bulk NeoGAF's traffic) and so it needs to be less cluttered, justifying keeping a general stupid question thread.

No PS3 because the cell processor is hideously complicated to emulate. No Xbox 360 because a lot of its games come out on PC as well so there's not much need?

If some cleaver and skilled people had the time then there is no reason you couldn't have basic emulation. There's not even a fully compatible PS2 emulator yet, a good PS3 or 360 emulator would take years.

There are probably some development software torrents out there that could help emulate games on a pc, but they are so illegal that any use of anything in them, in a public release emulator, would have the project shut down and sued.

Is there ANY way to turn off the "Warning Excessive Playing can disturb your daily life you have been playing for bla bla bla bla hours" notification that come every one hour on Xbox360? It's so fucking bloody annoying.

lol Ive never seen that. Are you playing on a child xbox account maybe or you have lockout stuff turned on ?

Hmmmm, I dunno, how can I check it? I've been messing around the preferences, turning off notification and shit, but nothing works.

But maybe I am missing something.

I would like to add that there is in fact a legitimate PS3 emulator named "RPCS3" that's currently in the very early stages of development. At the moment it only runs small homebrew games, but down the line it has the potential to become something greater.

Went to download Ridge Racer (PS1) off the UK PSN store. It's not there.

How can this be?!?!

My PAL PS1 copy is cracked so I can't play it, and my NTSC version won't play in my UK PS3.

PSN PSOne Classics should have Ridge 1, SURELY?! Gutted right now, wanted a bit of classic 'Ridge/

Sadly, it's not on there. Ridge Racer Type 4 is on there, though.

Did anyone get around to answering the previous question I had? If not, should I apologize to Phil Fish for making a crack on twitter about him being a one-hit wonder during his Xbox One meltdown, or should I just live and let live?

Go into the actual account settings area (cant recall exactly where it is), there will be family settings etc

You may have to access all that stuff via the website to change, not too sure though

Alan Wake question:
6037A50F7A7EBFD6F3F7DE6A743BC4B03BB8226D

anyone know what to do here, it's episode 5, almost at the end of that dam, trying to escape the darkness, but I can't go anywhere when I meet up with those 2, and I always die, I thought I should run in that house on the left, but it has no flor, is that a bug or am I missing something ?
Edit: Nvm it was a bug, once i restarted the game, it worked.

Hi, I was playing Tales of Grace F, and they have these tutorial tips at the end of the battle or during loading screens.

Is there an official name for it?

I was thinking tutorial tips?

Thanks.

KOTOR on PC - any recommended mods? All the searches I try get overwhelmed by sites talking about the KOTOR 2 Restoration Mod that mean that KOTOR 1 mods seem to fall by the wayside.

Edit: And while I'm here, something that's been nagging at me recently: Can anyone recommend a games cataloguing tool that:

* Runs on PC
* Ideally, and Android. Not necessary, though!
* Can automatically acquire your Steam collection.
* And GoG, if that's even possible?
*** (this one is crucial, it's what's stopped me using Backloggery): Has *some* quick method of adding titles to the collection. Scanning barcodes is the most recent one that's sprung to mind given I've now got a phone that can do that sort of stuff, but other methods would be useful too.

When you've a collection of games numbering in the thousands, the laborious process of entering all the details into something like Backloggery is simply too restrictive.

Ok guys, I have a Wii U and want to get into the Super Mario Galaxy series. Should I start with SMG 1 or skip SMG 1 and start with SMG 2?

You can't really go wrong with either as they are both fine games with their own strengths and weaknesses. It is purely a matter of personal taste with regard to design decisions that will determine which one the individual prefers.

Personally, I would start with the first one and then if you enjoy that play the sequel. That way you will appreciate the changes in the sequel more having played the first game. However, as I said, you really can't go wrong either way.

I started on an Hardcore Gaming 101 type write-up for Pandora's Tower for some reason. What do I post it as? RTTP?

If you are re-playing it, yes. If you are playing it for the first time, then use LTTP.

For quite awhile when I first lurked here I thought LTTP was 'Link to the Past' as an homage to the Zelda game. It took me awhile to realise it meant 'late to the party'. Heh.

Ok I want to get into the Silent Hill series. I have 2 and 4 on ps2. Dont imagine I could stomach 1 on psx. My question is: Is Shattered Memories an actual remake, is it connected to Silent Hill 2 story-wise and is it worth playing on ps2 if I don't own a wii?

Shattered Memories is not at all an actual remake of the first game. The plot is very, very superficially the same and the characters only have the names in common between the two. No connection to 2 at all. It is a very, very different game from the rest of the Silent Hill games. That said it is the best Silent Hill game made by a Western developer, bar none. The story and how it's told is really fantastic stuff.

No clue how the Wii and PS2 versions compare. I know the Wii version looks a lot better. No clue what might have been lost there.

Now, you said you had 2 and 4. Good start. Give 1 a try. It looks dated but I think the developers really worked with those limitations and I honestly think it adds to the game more than it subtracts. And you need 3. Imperative.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I was hoping it was a Twin Snakes type deal but I guess not. But I've heard how great the story is, which is my main incentive for playing these so ill definitely try it. But since there not connected I'll just jump in to Silent Hill 2, will play depending how much I end up enjoying the other games. :)

Can I have more than one save file for The Last of Us?

GF wants to play and I haven't finished it yet! :(

Create a new user on the PS3?

Go left to 'Users' on the XMB, 'Create New User' at the top.

Then any game played on that new user will be separate to your one. You just have to make sure she is logged in as that user whenever she plays, you shouldn't have to create a new PSN ID for her unless she wants to play online or use online features.

Is it possible for my user account to have two save files, or is it just one to each account?
I don't own The Last of Us so I can't check myself, but if you can't start a new game and save that as a new file then the answer is no. Unless you want to keep swapping out save files using a flash drive.

Creating a new User on the console would be the easiest way, but I guess you have a reason to want her to be able to play a new game but still be on your account?

Trying to get an Action Replay V1.08 to work on my Gamecube (DOL-101), doesn't want to read the disc. It's not TOO scratched up (it's stayed in a game case for a few years), cleaned the disc with glass cleaner but still doesn't want to read the disc. Even have the memory card still. Really wanna access F-Zero AX, but not gonna be able to with the disc not reading. Any suggestions?

Oh, & I still have the memory card included with it.

Well crap, answered my own question via Datel's FAQ/customer service page....

Unfortunately, the newer GameCube (model DOL-101) will not recognize any version of the Action Replay below Version 1.14. You can find your model number by looking at the black label on the underside of your GameCube.

So, I just got MGS 2,3, and 4. The problem is that I don't know what to choose in MGS 2... Tanker-Plant, Tanker o Plant? I have never played a MGS title before.

Or should I start with MGS 3 or MGS 4?

What are those blue furry things in Luigi's Mansion 2 called?

Are the related to the more aggressive blue furry things in DCKR.

Tanker-Plant. Tanker is the "prelude" chapter and Plant is the "main game." Kojima, man...

You should really play MGS1 first and play them in order of release. Starting with 3 can be pretty darn confusing, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but it's the best standalone game out of 2-4.

I got a Buy 2 get 1 Coupon from Gamestop. It is still on my active offers.

How long does it stay there before I print it out? I.e does it expire if I don't do anything to it?

What is going on in this image, it's means to be a "hidden" frame in a cutscene in a 3d sonic game, I know it's robotnik but the description that came with it was "you can see here what robotnik does in his spare time"

No matter what way I look at it, I don't know what im looking at.

Could anyone link me to the MMO speak LOTR movie video/gif please? The one I'm thinking of has one of the hobbits saying "hl pls lol" and used to be posted here a lot years ago.

For platformers, do you prefer using WASD or the arrow keys? Any particular reason?

I'm wrapping my head around game programming and realized I don't know the norm.
