This thread is for stupid questions that don't deserve their own individual threads

Alright, basically I didn't want to make a new thread, so I'll just ask here.

I want to upgrade my HDD so that I can play with Windows 7. I have two HD's and I know one of them is ATA-150, the other is older and uses ultra IDE. I'm getting rid of the older one, so I can have a space for the new one.

Basically I've been looking at 1TB ones, and they seem to be ATA-300, so will they work alright? And finally, what ribbon recommendations would I need to have both on.

My question:

How do you view the number of posts someone has made in a thread, I have seen a list before but can't figure out to do it myself.
You know at the right side where it tells you the number of posts that have been made in that thread? Click the number.

There are two main types of hard drive connections, SATA and PATA (Serial and Parallel ATA respectively). PATA is the older type and SATA is the newer, faster type, you can tell the difference by the type of cable they use - PATA uses a wide flat ribbon with a big connector and SATA uses a much smaller cord.

PATA (Ultra ATA133) < SATA I (SATA 1.5Gb/s) < SATA II (SATA 3.0Gb/s)

Basically all hard drives you buy now are SATA II (300). If your motherboard is old you might not have that connection, technically SATA II is suppose to be backwards compatible with SATA I if you change the jumpers but I've never actually seen it work.

Check what connections your motherboard has.

what's it called when someone labels another person something but that someone is actually that label.

like if a guy keeps calling other guys gay but he is actually gay but refuses to acknowledge it.

I would really like to know the full story behind the "kids flipping out and crying in front of raptor jesus(?) with the crazy coloring that made it look like a rave" and since there's no current "meme origins" thread... :)

It is edited from a scene in the documentary "Jesus Camp" iirc.

I have a REALLY stupid one, and the only reason I am posting it is because it kept me up at night once thinking about it.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hookers and blow

"hookers and blow"

It means prostitutes and drugs in that order, but shouldn't it be the other way around? I mean, you get HOOKED on drugs, and... well not much more needs to be said about the "blow" if you know what I mean. I have actually argued about this with one of my roomies for no less than 5 minutes when it was being mentioned by someone in the room. Actually, both of us got to thinking and even though a hooker is, well a hooker, the phrase "hookers and blow" makes quite a bit more sense when it is reversed.

I just don't get it GAF. I mean, I get it, but.... You see where I am going here?
Sorry to "bump", but I would really like an answer!

I'm not sure what the question is? You mean, shouldn't it be 'Blow and Hookers" because you think people snort coke before they shag the hookers?

I don't know how much a person with a hooker really wants to get coke dick. It's probably best to do it after.

They're just colloquial expressions unrelated in specific meaning, but often paired together in a duality of pleasure.

A "Hooker" refers to a lady of the evening. Some think that this alias is due to an area of New York, Corlear’s Hook, and its reputation for said ladies of the evening.

"Blow" is slang for "cocaine." How it got that specific name is unsure. Maybe because it "blows" your mind? I don't know. It is possible that the term "snort" just isn't marketable.

The two often come together as some people find it sexually arousing to snort lines of cocaine off another person's body.

Anything beyond that is probably searching for meaning where there is none.

See Frank Zappa's song "Titties and Beer" for further clarification.

Why are you suppose to take pills (medication/supplements) with a meal?

I believe it's because eating a pill with an empty stomach could allow it to sit in your stomach and burn through, making an ulcer.

How did Napoleon Dynamite get his name? I always imagined he was born to hippie parents who, instead of naming him something spacey like Starchild or Moonbeam, went for something comically absurd. Is it a variation on Napoleon Blown-apart?

I know Elvis Costello used it as a stage name, but I don't know of a story behind his use of it. The name for the movie most likely came from there.

Middle click on 'quote' for a few people, then copy and paste the text from each of those tabs into one tab, and reply there. There is no in-built functionality on this version of VBulletin.

Ok.

I've have been eating whole wheat bread (exclusively) for about a year now. Yesterday I was in a rush and the store ran out, so I had to get regular white bread.

So all day I've been shitting shit and my stomach's been bubbly.

Connection?

2) Just like it would be if we were here. Sure, the buildings would fall apart, power would stop being generated after a while, but earth would go on just fine without us. Go to the Amazon or something.

4) What's the best way to dislodge someone that has you in a headlock? They're about 4" shorter, and about half the mass. I did it by just standing up, but next time I want them to regret doing it.
1. Don't forget the inability to pass out, along with just enough light to see what's happening to you (and your eyes are saved until the end).

2. I think he meant if humans were never here to begin with. How would animals have evolved without us, for example.

4. It's a tad gay, but it works: Reach through their legs and hit them as hard as you can in the crotch with your hand and forearm. Repeat until necessary to loosen their grip. If it continues to not work, sweep the feet, he won't be able to hold you like that for long while on his back.

Many types of pills have expectorants in them. This is just guessing, but I'm betting that having nothing on your stomach causes the expectorant to be too powerful to properly take the medicine (or would at least make you have an upset stomach), so more food surrounding it would help with digestion.

"Hookers" also hook you in, just like drugs do. In fact, they're almost more similar to fish hooks than drugs are, in that they have a prize on the end of the proverbial hook (it costs money). As for "blow," I'm not sure. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's related to "blow your mind."

would you try to save a baby raccoon with a broken leg even if it might give you rabies?
I think it's funny you mentioned this. Yesterday, I was washing my clothes in the washing room in the garage when I notice that my puppy was sniffing something in the ground...I go investigate to see what she may be sniffing and it turned out to be a baby bird. I was surprised because I assumed that it would have been dead, but it wasn't. So I began looking to see if I could spot the nest somewhere and it turned out there was a small little hole near the top of the beginning of the roof where I heard other little birds crying. I grabbed a ladder from the garage and I tried to put the baby bird back in that small hole where the nest was and I couldn't. In one of my attempts to try and putting it back, another baby bird fell from it's nest, but it was mostly the bird's fault for moving too much. I tried so many different ways and thought about different ideas to try and get them back in there but I failed. The two of the baby birds ended up dying shortly. :(

You murdered a baby bird? You dick!

Awww. Good intentions, I guess.

I'm from Europe, so I know jack shit about american football. that being said, here's my question. In the It's Always Sunny episode 'the gang gets invincible', mac and dennis mock people trying out for wearing capes. What's the use of wearing a cape in this sport?

Is there a database for the etymology on slang? Like under what circumstances did people start using the word 'cop' for 'acquire'...

Best I could find but not entirely clear, use as a jumping point I guess:

http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?l=c&p=26

cop (v.) Look up cop at Dictionary.com
1704, northern British dialect, "seize," perhaps from M.Fr. caper "seize, to take," from L. capere "to take" (see capable); or from Du. kapen "to take," from O.Fris. capia "to buy." Cop out (v.) and cop-out (n.) are Amer.Eng., first recorded 1942, probably from cop a plea (c.1925) "plead guilty to lesser charges."

Why are gay people amazed or surprised by the cognitive dissonance created by the idea of a manly homosexual? Or rather why do they act as though it is unfair to think of homosexuals as being feminine, when if there is one thing that most women do it's lust after and have sex with men?

I don't know if there's necessarily a term for this, but yeah, I've spent my entire life doing it. Ten minutes or ten years, I can't get past the past. :\

I love this question, I really do. :lol Assuming it's a genuine query, uh, no one wears capes in American football or any other American sport, unless you want to count [fake] professional wrestling where it's only for theatrics. They were mocking those people for being such hopeless dorks... not that Mac and Dennis are any better. :)

I assumed that since Mac and Dennis were mocking the use of capes, there must have been some use to them, since they're always wrong about everything. I just found it weird that people were wearing capes :p

It's like saying every man is masculine because they like girls. Is that true? There are plenty of wimpy, feminine, or just weak straight men. There are plenty of "straight" acting gay people, and it's odd that you have to call them "straight" acting or "masculine." I guess they don't feel accepted if they're considered really feminine men by default, especially if they personally are not.

I'm trying to start PC gaming so I downloaded the Portal demo from Steam to see if I could run Team Fortress 2 without any problems, it was all good until I raised my resolution. The game was sluggish and response was slow. Why does the game run better at 1200x800 than 1680x1050? And how can I improve my computers performance?
