Hey GAF, when people cheer in agreement is it 'hear, hear', i.e. preaching to the converted, or 'here, here', i.e. standing and being counted.

While I was helping my uncle fix the brakes on my car I couldnt help but to think about how awesome it was that he had his own garage. And that got me thinking can people who want to fix up old cars as a hobby rent garage space and tools if they live in the big city?

The first one is incorrect unless the sentence is, "What? Are you listening, too?" Too means also.

It ain't. If you're talking about the thread, it's a joke title. Might have originated from a typo, I'm not sure.

First is INcorrect
Second is technically incorrect as well, as it should correctly be "to what are you listening?", but common usage would put it as "what are you listening to".

If you notice the punctuation it's "what, are you listening too?"

Think of it like "what? Are you listening too?"

Too, as in also.

Okay well, a mod changed the title of my June 2011 music thread from "What are you listening to?" into "What are you listening too?" Going back even a few months, the thread has always been: "What are you listening too," so I was humble and assumed I was wrong.
Unless, I missed some inside joke in the thread (haven't been keeping up with it due to E3 craziness).

Either way, thanks to everyone for the clarification.

Not quite. It's a popular misconception that you're not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition, when in reality it's perfectly acceptable. It's a old rule held over from Latin, in which a preposition at the end of the sentence could change/distort its meaning. The rule doesn't really apply to the English language, though some uneducated English teachers still profess it to be true.

Whats the difference between an "air conditioner" and an "air cooler"? I totally need a portable one but they're all expensive an I would like to at least know why they got seperate names before dropping hundreds of dollars on one!

By the way, the Wii-mote pointer controlling the cursor can be achieved by using Smoothboard in the reverse of its intended purpose. I got on a wiihack kick a couple years ago and even made reflective fingertips to be able to control it with my fingers.

Is there a word or literary term for when you either intentionally misspell something or apply improper grammar?
Malapropism might be what you're looking for?

Though it's not limited to intentional use.

On the subject of freezing meat :

If I buy fresh salmon from the store that could be stored in the fridge for let's say seven days. Now when I buy said salmon I'll toss it in the freezer that very same day. Will this "pause" those "store up to seven days in fridge"? Am I making any sense? Like let's say the salmon has been in the freezer for 1 month, and now I want to take it out and store it in the fridge for 2 days before eating them. Dangerous? Will it go bad?

Just grilled this bad boy at in the late hours of the morning:

Is there anything wrong with the bun being that way, or was it designed the other way for a reason?

Well are those two bottom buns?

Damn that looks good, too bad you ruined it by putting on the buns the wrong way. Throw it out, it's impossible to fix at this point.

I want this thread to hurry up so that picture will go away. Stop quoting it!

To answer his question though: The bottom bun is flat so you can rest it easily on a flat surface. You are using the top bun improperly, as it's round shape was not meant to be rested on.

Can someone explain why any CD I burn on iTunes will just organize itself alphabetically by Artist no matter what order I set the original playlist in? And if there's anyway I can change this?

What's the best way to go with trying to fix a fridge (ice maker not working)?

EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm not trying to fix the fridge myself, but I'd want to know who/where to call to get someone to fix it.

Is there a way I can get the computer to rename photo files in sequential order? Basically I have about 90 folders, with photos in them, and the software I use to scan from neg to digital means that each time it does a new folder, it starts from 00001, 00002. Therefore, If i want to put it all photos in one folder for a customer, I cant unless i manually rename them or otherwise each photo will overwrite the other. I attempted creating an app using an imac, but didnt get much success. My PC in my dep't is windows based. Any ideas of how i might do that on a windows based pc?

Something like this?

Both of those look like they are the kind of tools i need. But God help me, I can rename the first folder of photos correctly, but have yet to figure out how to start of the numbering on the next folder at anything but 0. (i.e. last photo was renamed 0138 in folder, I want to start new set of photos at numbering 0139 --->).

Anyway i will have a further play around. Thanks for the links.

EDIT: YEAAAAAAAAA BOI, after reading instructions somehow managed to do it. Pretty sure that makes me a hacker now.

Overnight, my cat decided to take a giant stinky crap next to my computer desk. Duke Nukem Forever has just arrived and I want to play it.

I have covered the crap in cat liter to absorb the moisture, and now I just need to get rid of it before I can sit down and play Duke - what's the best method to remove it and take care of smells / stainage?

Wash with soap after removing as much as you can. Meaning you're fucked for at least the next hour. It'll smell for quite a while. There is no trick.

As far as spelling is concerned I don't know but for grammar/syntax it fits the definition of an anacoluthon.

So I moved to NYC with my friend about 9 months ago, we have an apartment together that we rented and moved into with this other girl we had never met before. She was super nice but she's barely ever home (literally, in 9 months she's slept here maybe 4 weeks total). Anyways, her last check bounced and we haven't seen her for four weeks, she's overdue on this month's rent already. I just learned from my landlord that she isn't on the lease (SURPRISE, I thought she was but we weren't together when we signed it).

Any idea on what actions I can take? Can we change the locks and hold her stuff hostage for the money?

I can just imagine an 80s sitcom scenario where you and your friend are talking

You: I thought you knew that girl?

Friend: No. I thought she was your friend!

You: Well I if I didn't ..

Friend: and I didn't ...

Together: Whoa!
