Harry inherited a small fortune from his parents, and is pretty much set for life. Everyone else who isn't a student gets their money from working at the Ministry of Magic (the wizarding government, essentially).

Hermione's parents aren't wizards, so I don't know how she gets wizard munny.

Restaurant take out. Do I tip? I'm sure I do but certainly not the 15%-20% you give a waitress correct?
In Europe there isn't much of a tipping culture. If you're not outside the US, then tip. If you're going to a good restaurant then do at those rates if the service and experience is good.

Yeah I never even finish the Harry Potter series but I remembered that they bitch about book and uniform prices at some point. Of course the fact that they have currency, even if it's gold/silver, doesn't make any sense considering that they can do alchemy and whatever to make counterfeit moneys.

What is the purpose of the site youtu.be?

i think its just for shortening urls. but i +1 this question since im not sure.

my question:
is there any easy infographic/information that details the general hierarchy of the US infantry? for example common soldier<marine<ranger=SEAL<deltaforce etc etc?

What's the correct watch order for Initial D? I just finished Stage 2 and I want to make sure I'm going to the right thing next. Is it just the order they released everything?

First Stage
Second Stage
Extra Stage
Third Stage
Battle Stage
Fourth Stage
Battle Stage 2
Extra Stage 2

Are the Extra and Battle Stages any good? What about the live action movie?

how come sometimes when I am looking through a thread that has pictures (e.g. the gaming pick-up thread) some of the pictures will only be partially viewable?

the bottom half/third/quarter of some of the pictures are blocked by gray.

Hey a while back some one made a thread about this slow moving street style of dancing. I can't find the thread and don't remember the name of that style. Any clues?

Isn't Hogwarts a free tuition kind of thing? I always assumed she gets a stipend or something.

In the memory where Dumbledore is visiting Tom Riddle for the first time, either Tom or the adoption lady complains about Tom not having any money to pay for school. Dumbledore offers to subsidized but it doesn't specify whether that's for books or tuition. Could be free or could just be inexpensive. I'm guessing since the Ministry had a hand in enough policies and teacher assignments, it was at least partially subsidized by the government. Could have also been through donations, like St. Mungos.

Money orders? Pretty sure you can't. Though I could be wrong.

I have a bunch of old video clips on my system that seemed to begin running really choppily when I had built a new system. I just chalked it up to them being old and me not really noticing the choppiness because I remember when everything used to be choppy. However, when I had downloaded some of those 1080p BF3 trailers, I found that they ran poorly despite the reasonable build of my PC, so after looking for some solutions found that they ran beautifully if I played them in a DVD-playback program. The problem seems to be that those huge files (1-2GB) needed some hardware support to play properly. After realizing this, I tried running the little video clips through the DVD program, and they did run smoothly. I cannot figure out though why such small videos would need the same.

Edit: They tend to be mpegs just a couple MB in size.

I'm having a brain fart right now. What word best describes the Na'vi culture in the film Avatar? They're a hunter-gatherer society, but there's another term for it. It's not agrarian...what's the word I'm looking for?

It's probably been asked before but does anybody know of a chrome extension or free program that lets you take a picture of an entire webpage all at once? Not just the section of the page that's on screen at the time but like the entire page as one long reel?

I need to copy and send my unofficial transcript so if I just keep pressing page down and taking separate pictures it would be like ten individual images.

Pastoral?

I dunno, that's not quite right for hunter-gatherers.

Having not downloaded music for years, I just downloaded 10 gigs of it.

Do people still get sued for downloading music/torrents?

Downloading music / torrenting doesn't need to be illegal.
If you payed for your music like in Itunes, it's completely legal. Torrenting music is of course illegal but torrentling things like a Linux distribution isn't because the thing you're torrenting is free for everyone.

Yeah... not really asking if stealing tons of music was legal or not.

Is the RIAA still suing a shitload of people for torrenting, though, was my question.

Not so much a dumb question, but a plea for help. Apologies ahead of time, but without reaching member status I can't just create a new thread, and I couldn't find any recent threads with any relevancy.

I'm heading back to school in August to get my second bachelor's. Tough job market and I lost interest in what I went for the first time. So I'm going for a CS degree in Software Development. I'd like to get ahold of a laptop that has enough power to write code/compile, but I'm on a budget. I've never bought a laptop before so I'm open to any suggestions.

My only limitations are:
I want Windows 7.
Under ~$450 or so.

Thanks guys!

Is it a requirement to wear a blazer for a job interview as opposed to a shirt and tie with black pants and shoes for a job interview?
Depends on the job. A common rule of thumb is to dress a notch above the job environment you'll work in.

IMO, you should always dress up for an interview, but that doesn't necessarily mean a suit.

How long does it take to become a member of the gaf ?

Also any tips on doing things outside during the summer without being burned to death by the sun? This sucks, i want to go on a trek for literally the entire day, and i feel like i cant because ill be burned to hell and back...

I think you have to have 100 posts under your belt.

Go for a hike in the woods and the trees should block the majority of the sun.

Really stupid question:

Does anyone play Tiny Tower for the iphone? If so, it'd be cool if you added me - BearyBearington. I realize this game is a waste of time, but I can't get over the cute graphics and soundtrack :x

Sunscreen and a hat? I mean, that's the usual solution.
