I remember reading a study of something to the effect of racism being a gene, or babies showing racist tendencies (dont ask for a link).

Do you guys think racism is an evolutionary trait to favor the advancement of our own species? Or is it purely the result of environment. Just a thought.

You know, after going through the dues ex thread, I don't feel like typing an answer
I'll just post this instead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cbb2DtUeKpU&feature=feedu

Now to my question:
What color collar shirt goes well with a black suit? I've got some events and dinners to go to.

No, it's absolutely an artifact of how our brains work.

The human brain doesn't have the capacity to reason from first principles every time it encounters something new. If you walk up to a square rectangle of wood, clearly separate from the wall it's set in, you don't stand and ponder what it might be. Your brain instantly uses those visible characteristics to run a search, matches with "door," and then retrieves other facts about doors. For example: turn a knob and it will swing out, so that you may pass through the wall. Voila!

This same architecture inevitably results in racism. Or at least stereotypes.

I recently upgraded to BT infinity to get a 40mb connection. Problem was the router does not come with a USB connection port and since my computer is pretty old and does not have an ethernet port, I couldn't get online with it. I ordered an Ethernet to USB dongle and it works however my connection speed is not that much better than before BT Infinity.

My laptop, phone, PS3 and other PC all have super fast connection so i'm sure it's because of the dongle. I was wondering if there was any method to get my connection speed faster? I'll be getting a new PC at the start of next year so so atleast it won't be permanent.

Just get one of those. Plugs straight into your motherboard. Shouldn't be hard to install even if you don't know what you are doing.

Does Pacman Championship Edition DX contain all of the original Pacman Championship Edition? I loved both demos, but don't want to miss out on something if one of the modes or whatever are gone. Thanks in advance.

What would the physiological ramifications be if someone had Superman-like powers of flight? This assumes that in every other regard, they are just as durable as any other average human. Let us also suppose that they can fly at a maximum speed of Mach 1.

Would flying at maximum speed for prolonged periods in normal attire cause severe burns to the person due to wind resistance?

Would reaching Mach 1 without ear protection cause hearing damage from the sonic boom? (Would a man-sized object even create a sonic boom?)

Would the flyer even be able to breathe properly at that speed? (Assuming they are at an altitude with otherwise acceptable pressure.)

DX has the map from CE, but I think that CE also has some other modes that aren't in DX. Haven't played CE though, only DX

I want to spend this weekend building a basic website, but have minimal web building knowledge. Is wordpress the easiest option?

I suddenly can't read any somethingawful threads at all, which is a pain in the ass. I used to be able to read pretty much everything normally - in fact I was reading a thread the other day - but now I get "Sorry, you must be a registered forums member to view this page. If you are already a member, login here." on almost every thread I click on.

So what's the deal? Did they decide to block guests from viewing threads, or what?

They do that every once in a while. They want your 10bux.

You know the artifacts with how our brain works is not mutually exclusive to an evolved trait. That being said racism is almost certainly a social instinct, the behavior and thought process extends far beyond just racism.

We are social mammals we view those different than ourselves (this difference is not contingent on race) as an "other." This is simple tribal/pack behavior seen in a wide variety of species. Humans are naturally xenophobic and the behavior of grouping ourselves with those we identify with begins at an exceptional young age. Way before we have concepts like "race" imprinted.

What would the physiological ramifications be if someone had Superman-like powers of flight?

It would pulp your body instantly, you wouldn't be able to breathe or see.

Are there any audio podcasts similar to PBS's Charlie Rose in interviewing world leaders, policy experts, academics, authors, filmmakers, musicians and the like?

Not sure what you're saying here. Brain functions that are common to all humans are evolved traits.

Ok I need some help here .. I'm using Media Monkey and trying to make a home made "Best of" compilation album of various songs from a bunch of different artists/albums. How can I keep this grouped together without just changing the artist name to 'various'? (I'd like to keep the artist names in tact so I can see the name of it scroll in my cars stereo screen)

If I name it one album name but have multiple artist names my mp3 player splits the album out into separate tracks and won't keep it as a single album.

I rebooted my computer and erased everything.. .. now my speakers don't work and when i go to control panel/ sounds and audio device settings it says theres no device found. My speakers are plugged into the comp and its on but i dont know why it wont read it.

You need to find the drivers for your sound card (even if it's on-board). Speakers aren't really devices that you install.

Tags are a good thing or a bad thing?

Having the tag "member" is a sign of pureness?

Stupid questions maybe, but this is the thread.
Both. They can either be commendable/ funny (see shaowebb), embarrassing/discrediting (see -PXG-) or nonsensical/extremely referential. Like mine.

Dragona gave me mine because I said something she said backwards in a tag fishing thread.

I just registered this past month after lurking for several years, but it is :10bux: well spent. Bypassing the word filter alone is worth the price of admission.

The amount of first hand knowledge I've gained on the internet from SA over the years is second to none. Also, there's little tolerance for poor grammar or image macros, which is refreshing.

I used to think like you, fuck paying for things on the internet! But SA is definitely worth $10.

Does anybody remember a tv show where a guy goes metal detecting on a beach and finds a car? Random question.
Does anyone remember a TV show where a fat white guy was pushed in front of a train and the government took his brain and put it into a young fit body. He worked with a black dude, and wasn't allowed to talk to his family....think john goodman was the fat guy.....?

Why isn't there a "|OT|NeoGAF Shop" thread? like the Avatar request thread but you could request anything(sfw). I know once in a while there are some funny ones.
