Alright GAF, I'm about to go crazy because my computer is randomly running Battlefield 3 like shit (dropping frames to single digits and locking up every few seconds), and I think it may be a virus--as far as I know, BF3 has had no major patches today, so it can't be that. Can anyone knowledgeable recommend some good free anti-virus and anti-spyware programs? Maybe some good defragging programs as well. It couldn't fucking hurt.

Ok, I have a problem.

Last night I was supervising my 17 year old brother (who just got his learner's permit) and letting him get some practice driving in my car. Well, I had him driving around the empty parking lot of an elementary school out in our neighborhood and I told him to practice backing up and driving in reverse. He puts the gear in reverse and back up into a "student drop off" signpost on the sidewalk, crushing it, flattening it on the sidewalk.

My question is this: It seems in the state of California, you have to be at least 25 years of age to supervise a 17 year old with only a learner's permit; and I'm only 24. How big of a deal is that going to be for me? Am I going to get a huge fine?

I'm planning on going to the school and telling them that it was my car that nailed the signpost, but, deep down inside of me I'm thinking of just not telling them at all since it could save me a lot of potential trouble for a damn signpost.

Three options:

1) Do as you've suggested, go to the school and tell them. Apologize, say you were teaching your younger brother how to drive, and offer to pay the full cost of replacing the sign.

2) Find out how much the sign costs, make a money order out to the school for the exact amount, send it in an anonymous letter, again, apologizing.

3) Tell no one and live the rest of your life in fear. Always waiting for that hammer to drop.

Doubt you'd get in trouble for this. But if you're worried, just don't tell them it was your brother driving.

"Sorry, backed into your signpost, I'd be happy to pay to replace it."

No big deal.

Looking at knight armors at a museum got me thinking. I'd really like to feel what it would be like to move around with all that heavy armor on. Are there places where you can like, rent a full knight armor and ride an armored horse or something? I have no idea if this exists and thus asking it in here. Seems like it would be fun!

So I bought a battery for my Toshiba Satellite laptop (yeah I know their shitty to begin with but bare with me) to replace an old one that was a year old. Everything was working fine, until I saw that it said "0 percent charging" with the power cord plugged in. I take it out, immediately cuts off as if someone ripped the battery from the damn thing. WTF!? This shit is brand spanking new (well had the new battery in for a month but still relatively). What's going on? Are the cells dead and won't charge?

So, here's a question.

My friends wants to know if a Samsung Galaxy 2 unlocked phone will work with T-Mobile. I'm not a tech person at all, and I have no idea what they're talking about, so I was wondering if anyone here knows. Thought I'd ask here.

Maybe a Renaissance Fair?

My high school history teacher owned a bunch of that stuff (he was into the Ren Fair scene), so a bunch of us got to wear it. I also got to use a broadsword and a pike.

The chain mail weighed about 30 pounds IIRC. Not sure how much the plate would add to that. Broadswords get kinda heavy after awhile.

Sounds like the battery might not have been the problem but either your power adapter or some power component on the motherboard. All 3 have decently high failure rates.

I need to burn something at less than 4x write speed, is this even possible anymore? All I have are 16x DVD-R's and they won't go any lower than 6x.

Thanks dudes.

Try the program ImgBurn.
it gives me the option of burning from 1x all the way to 56x

Yeah I use IMGBurn, but the dvd's don't support anything less than 6x, so even if you set it to less than 4x it still burns at 6x.

Does anyone know if 8x DVD-R's support less than 4x write speeds?

Does anyone know of a good painting/interpretation/screen-grab of the complete coliseum stage from this sort of angle?

I'm making a video and hope to have a picture of the coliseum stage in it's prime, then have it fade into the modern-day photo.

Any help is much appreciated.

Might anyone here be interested in two non-cumulative 20% discounts for Logitech products? Got these codes for registering my new keyboard and mouse, and I don't really have a use for them.
24-48 hours left for the first one, I'm not sure, but the other code should last another 25+ days. Post here or PM if you want one, specifying which one.
Also, is there any thread where I could give away something along these lines, should I get some more?

For Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, United Kingdom and Hungary @ www.logitech.com
For Ireland, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal and Poland @ www.logitech.com/index.cfm/home/&cl=roeu,en

also who are those people? Looks like a different angle but same day for the younger lady and updated pics for the two white men. The older lady just looks shopped into a different haircut and background.
I miss bozo #5.

Using archive.org to check out some past dates, looks like they switched them late November or early December last year.

I'm buying a home and need to purchase appliances. Where's the best place to get appliances for a decent price? I've looked at home depot/lowes.. They seem to have some decent prices, anywhere else (maybe not so obvious) that I should look?

Edit: I mean the big appliances.. fridge, range, dishwasher.

Cool, thanks! Didn't think to try there. Isn't the #5 now the 4th guy, just a different pic of him?

Yeah, they're all the same except for Businessman Black Guy, who was replaced with Random Black Guy.

So I just moved in to a new flat (and subsequently gone back home home to pick up more stuff), and I noticed the hobs on the electric stove/cooking unit are incredibly rusty. I didn't notice this when I had my viewing, so it's my fault for not bringing it up beforehand.

I was wondering if rusty hobs are dangerous at all? When I say rusty, I don't mean there's a bit, I mean it's flaking rust and I am concerned about heating them up!

I will ring my letting agent in the morning.

Weird question, but this has been bugging me for years.

Does anyone remember a Domino's Pizza commercial for their "Pepperoni Fanatic" line? It had a guy screaming after getting the pizza delivered, saying something like "I love this pepperoni fanatic pizza!!!", etc... this may have been a local commercial (Minnesota), but I'm not sure. It might also not have been Domino's, but I'm pretty sure it was. Thing is, I can't find it anywhere and am starting to think I just made the thing up. Hahaha. Could anyone help me find this? Thanks guys.

Where does one sell a diamond?

My GF had a pair of diamond earrings and lost one of them a while ago. So she mentioned wanting to sell the other one as it's kinda useless only having one earring.

should we just go to a place that buys gold/diamonds/silver?? They all seem pretty shady and I was wondering if there's a better option?

Local jewlery stores (not mall chain ones) will often buy them.

What is the point of switchable region coding on certain computers? If they allow you to switch a limited amount of times, why not just unlocked completely?

Home Depot, Lowes, Sears. Get an extended warranty on the dishwasher, those never last long.

So after opening my computer (looking to upgrade harddrive) I have no idea how to see the difference from SATA 300 to SATA 600. It's supposed to have both but there is nothing indicating what is what, I'm not very hardware smart so any help is appreciated.

My friend's mom is in NY and her camcorder is broken. Is there any particular model she should be looking for? She'd like something easy to use. Is the Canon Vixia HF M400 a good option? What about the Sony Handycam HDR-CX130?

Thanks!

If you mean of optical drives, I imagine it's just to put a hamper on bad folk who farm the process of ripping and burning pirated DVDs and such. Also probably a way to discourage people from changing their region to bypass region locked discs. The optical drive manufacturers are in bed with those producers or are one in the same and are maybe trying to look out for themselves.

My youtube is acting weird. I have the latest flash and latest ati drivers. Almost every time I go to fullscreen or back out, the video skips ahead 0.5-2 seconds, which is really jarring :S Other flash based players like on giantbomb etc do not have this problem. Could it be because of video downloader plugins maybe? :S

If she wants a really easy one tell her to get a Flip.

Did I accidentally break my computer's CPU while dismantling it? I was trying to take out the heat sink and the CPU was stuck to it. I'm guessing that I might have broken off a piece near the center there. :[
