Thor is now the goddess of Thunder

That is from the 8-Bit release. The 1993 re-release to be exact. Same image used on Metroid II for the Gameboy, IIRC.

It's the cover for the GBA's "NES Classic Series" port of the original.

ahh, ok that makes sense

How the fuck she will be called Thor?

Shit makes no sense and makes me mad, there should be only one Thor but various worthy characters liek Beta Ray Bill.

At least call her Thora or something, fuck.

You don't seem to get that this new Thor is marketed around being a girl. If you couldn't instantly tell that she's a woman this whole stunt would be pointless.

So why does practical costume design always have to be sacrificed in the name of "hey look, titties?" I would guess this iteration of Thor isn't always trying to turn every dude she sees on like a light bulb.

Right. Like Loki was a woman? And like Spider-Man was Doc Ock?

With Avengers 2 and seemingly 3 featuring Hemsworth's beefiness how long before Marvel revert back to the status-quo? I give them 2 years. 3 max.

Pretty much all costumes in superhero comics are style over substance. It's really not the place for realism.

They called Masterson Thor even though he clearly wasn't the same guy. He didn't become Thunderstrike until after Thor returned.

I think that's the thing that gets me. People who are saying "why? I don't like this thing" seem to be people who do not read the comics. They don't pick up Thor: God of Thunder, Avengers, or Avengers World.

Thor will be a woman for the foreseeable future. He was dead for years, with no title or anything. And then things will shift. That's comics. Jason Aaron is still writing the book. He's doing a good job with God of Thunder, and Marvel currently doesn't do the editorial cock-up, so this was presumably his idea. Let it ride.

Basically this. Most people reading comics know this tango. Gimmicks happen, but they can lead to good stories.

Why are they doing this to Thor and not giving another female character the spotlight? Well, they tried this multiple times, but you weren't talking about it. Lady Sif took over one of the flagship Thor titles recently. Valkyrie starred in books like New Defenders and Secret Avengers and was the focus of one of the post-event titles. This gets people to say "they did WHAT?" for better and for worse.

I understand people naming her Thor is weird, but an equal amount of people would probably be rolling their eyes at Thora, Thorita or La'Thoreesha.

I hate that this is what the argument always eventually comes down to: "chill, it's just a comic, it's not real."

Series writer Jason Aaron emphasizes, “This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.”
Oh god, I love it. These wotds are so impirtant to me. I am usually a DC buyer, but I might pick the new Thor comics up out of pure respect.

So holding Mjolnir now also changes your name to Thor? How come that didn't happen with Beta Ray Bill and Captain America?

Marvel pls.

Meanwhile didnt they already make Thor into a very liberal world peace, save the whales kinda guy? I suppose this is the next step.

Probably because it makes sense? When you want realism you should also get mad about thor not covering his arms etc.

I don't see the harm in a boob plate. Something like witchblade seems a billion times more offensive and objectifying

Bah humbug. We'll see if they stick with it. I've seen enough of these comic events to know that they are almost always a non-commital shake up. It's probably just writers running out of stories more than a social comment. And with the movies ._ I can't see it sticking.

running out of stories.... what?

and it shouldnt be a social comment. this shouldnt even be that big of a deal except for the identity of the wielder

That was Ultimate Thor and they vastly toned that down after the first two Ultimates books. Current Thor is fighting a massive corporation at the moment however, but he's far from a hippy.

Why does it need to stick?

That's not the point. The point is, "will this be an interesting story?".

Well, it most likely is Angela and probably ties in with Original Sins and the upcoming AXIS.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, go read up on Original Sins: The Tenth Realm. There's a big hint in there of what will happen.

Loved seeing nerds getting all mad on Twitter and comments sections on Facebook. Almost nothing makes me happier.

This is a really cool change! Not an avid reader or anything, but I might try to keep up with it.

That movie suuuuucked. Shit was fanfiction tier "All these heroes have sex with each other, have kids, and die"

Also, THAT is breast armor

It did suck, but the Thor and his daughter thing was pretty good I thought. Certainly better than "... Now he's a woman!"

This is interesting. Art/design looks amazing. Everyone is right about the whole name thing. His name is Thor. It's not his title.

The Future Past movie replaced the main female character from the comics with Wolverine, where was the outrage about disrespecting the "purity" of comics history?

Talking, gun toting Raccoon: cool. Female Thor: This is too unbelievable!

And no, I'm not calling out every comic fan or comics-GAF member--but don't pretend that a significant portion of the comics audience doesn't want comics to remain a boys club.

Well, good thing her design does not suggest that intends too. Had she had heels THEN maybe your argument would have a leg to stand on.

That is not what he said though.

And announced on the View. :)

So this is to appeal to women, but women who watch the View? I'd think they'd go for a younger crowd, but maybe they are thinking plenty of women watched "Avengers" and Robert Downey Jr so what the hell.
