THR: JJ Abrams' Superman Won't Be Part of the DCEU Universe, Will Feature a Black Kal-El

DC is in such a clusterfuck. I’d rather them take a break and start fresh in a couple years. There’s gonna be like 3 Batman’s, 3 jokers and 2 suicide squad movies that aren’t connected but share a couple characters. I’m not sure why this flash is even getting his own movie. Dude was horrible in JL.

Anyone who seethes about the race of Superman should have their Funko Pop collection taken away.

I thought people were saying this was going to be a new character in the role of superman so this isn't "black-washing", but this is going to be Kal-El? So it's literally actual superman, just black this time....

Well there's already a black Superman in the comics...from Krypton. SO it could still be him and THR just doesn't know about that character and they assumed it was Kal-El.

Feel like you can blame Joker for this.

WB DC generally gets poor critical reception on conventional super hero films but the time they strayed with Joker they were praised by critics, so the execs there want more attaboys from the hollywood elites, what do they care for what general audiences wants.

This is all in response to the success of Black Panther.

DC thinks they can do that too. They forget that Marvel has talented people as writers and directors...

Aquaman made $1 billion. They're making another one of those. They'll do sequels to things that make money, not what the mob demands.

This is why the DC stuff will never reach the heights that the MCU has.

Say what you will about Disney and the MCU, but they have a cohesive vision. Everyone is on the same page and working from the same plan. Each character and movie flows into each other and builds off each other. It looks and feels like a natural progression of events and characters.

Meanwhile the DC people have this bizarre need to just slap everything together and pretend that it sticks.

No thanks. In the grand scheme of things I don't give a shit, there's already different versions of Superman out there on film and TV, but I really don't care about some kind of statement movie. Just make a proper Superman movie and leave the signaling at the door.

Miles Morales was already a long established character before Spider-Verse though. Kind of odd that you singled out the Black Spider-Man and not the waifu anime or porky pig ones though.

I never cared for any Spider Man other than Peter Parker and hated the clone mess so I never kept up but I have to say what?

Just lol at them telling us they have to go to another universe.

Like, you guys know none of this is real, right? You can just say "Superman is black" and leave it there. You don't have to torpedo your entire EU before starting on the movie.

Yes the reason I brought up Spider-Man in a thread about Superman was because I'm a racist. This is why I didn't talk about Porky Pig (???) or a Waifu Anime (?????) in a Superman thread. Racism made me connect a superhero to another superhero instead of a cartoon pig or a big tittied witch.

Wow you found me out. Where do I pick up my "I'm a racist because I have the wrong opinion about the Spider-Man movie" card?

Not too familiar with DC I see.

Fine to me. As long as it's a white dude playing Blade in the next movie. Cant have it both ways.
Why would the creators of this shitty superhero movie be required to make a Blade movie and put in a white dude? That doesn't make sense at all. Nobody was whining to you about your drawings you made in middle school of Vegeta and a bunch of interracial fuzzy forest creatures pounding your mum.

Thoughts and prayers to the white supr...equalists out there while your culture is under direct attack (aka a person with darker skin color acting in a superhero movie.) Terrible stuff.

The DCEU with Cavill still exists.

OK... still confused by the framing of the thread.

They announced a separate DCEU didn't they?.. why would anyone from the current DCEU be in it? Seems like invented drama.

edit: Nevermind.. I misuindestood.. so this new superman won't be in the DCEU.. what in the world does this have to do with Cavil and his birthday?

Critic proof before it's even started filming. A way to hedge and have excuses loaded for when this underperforms.
Why would they kill what seems like relatively good momentum and will after the Snyder Cut?!?! Seems "tone deaf."

They’re trying to reboot the characters they fucked up in the DCEU, but still keep the ones they didn’t. It’s fucking idiotic. Do one thing or another. It’s too confusing for the general public.

Won't be confusing once people see The Flash.

I agree it's confusing.. but they are keeping Batlfeck aren't they? The article says he's in a future film.

It's the Cavil drama that threw me off.. didn't we all make fun of Leto for throwing a fit behind the scenes about a new Joker? lol

And the premise of the story is that this is a totally separate film.. so doesn't that say NOTHING about the future of Cavil supes?

My personal opinion: I think the whole "universe" thing doesn't really add much to any individual movie, and often takes away from them.

Just make entertaining films... self contained.. if characters continue on, have some continuity, but I really don't care if some other character shows up in a film, or they have a big "team up" film ala Avengers/Justice League personally. At best it's.. "kinda neat" to me how the films connect.. but people calling the MCU "brilliant" for it are weird to me.. it's called... a storyboard.. and these stories have largely already been written for them lol

It's far more interesting what they did with Joker.. and this movie sounds far more interesting than another Cavil Superman movie.

Yes, The Flash (which is filming right now) is rebooting the universe. Despite some on the Internet refusing to believe it. There's a plan that they have for things after The Flash cleans things up and they just gave JJ Abrams $500M to basically be their Feige (along with Christina Hodson who is writing The Flash).

So, they are giving 500M to the man that mismanaged Star Wars that will spend it all creating a bland, identity politics friendly universe and paying a few of his friends for token roles and that all the actual fans of the characters will hate? What could go wrooooong? 🤷‍♂️

I'm not discussing what identity politics are nor its merits, I'm merely mentioning that's the motivation behind the ridiculous casting. Good try though, that's why I mentioned you must be ecstatic, since Hollywood can't really be properly criticised anymore. No one can discuss their shitty activism and you are happy since you can discuss how people can buy more products and how to look forward to more products in the future. No thinking, just products. I love Hollywood.

They're doing both of those.
Awesome news. I haven't been keeping up with any of the DC movies after Man of Steel because I've heard exclusively terrible things, but a John Stewart Green Lantern movie could be pretty cool.

Static Shock might be one of the HBO Max movies (like Batgirl), but GLC is 100% meant for theaters since they originally had Tom Cruise lined up for Hal Jordan but he said he wouldn't do it because Hal died in the original script. It's about an older Hal Jordan training a new recruit Stewart.

Those two get the movie. The HBO Max series is Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and Alan Scott.

I'm asking the black people in this thread.

Do you even like this idea?

If i was black, i would feel so embarrassed and patronized by all this pandering.
Not at all. I do not like pandering.

This is what Hollywood thinks is profitable and cool. To me, Coates is just another race hustler like Tariq nasheed and if it flops which it probably will then they will blame white people. Everything about Hollywood and this woke cult have been cancerous for the most part and it's just sad.

Most people see through this crap but I do think for the most part there is a massive disconnect between Hollywood and the average citizen. I don't know anyone whose asked for this not one.

I'm also getting tired of new origin stories. But for the most part i'm at that point where i just dont care, i stopped watching superhero movies i think right around the time of civil war and black panther.

I'm just tired of them to be honest.

Eh. I think both WB and Disney are making mistakes to lean on their respective multiverse stories (though DC are doing it more heavily). Throw too many different iterations of characters at people, and they’ll get bored with it.

Also DC aren’t introducing the multiverse for storytelling reasons, they’re doing it to try and fix the fuck ups they’ve constantly made. Not a good reason.

People don’t really care what race a super hero is as long as it make sense. The falcon becoming captain America makes sense story wise and everyone is fine with it. Just making a character a totally different character .. just because.. only generates anger because it doesn’t make any sense. It’s dumb.

Will this be like the new Ghostbusters movie where they know it will be awful so they're hedging their bets by casting a black actor so when the movie tanks they can just blame it on racist movie goers?
