Terminator 6: Tim Miller is Officially Directing

'Thanks to a social media post from Skydance, shared by Skynet’s Army, it has finally been confirmed that Miller will indeed direct the next Terminator film. The confirmation comes courtesy of an invite to a special 3D screening of T2 that will feature a conversation with Cameron and Miller before the movie starts. Here is a brief description of what to expect:

Join filmmakers James Cameron and Tim Miller on the Paramount Lot for an exclusive conservation with The Hollywood Reporter’s Matt Belloni about their collaboration on the upcoming Terminator'.

Well, not bad. Interesting choice. Wondering if they completely retcon everything after 2.

I would have preferred Adam Wingard with his bud Simon Barrett writing the screenplay. The movie could have gone back to its slasher roots, with hints of action scenes here and there, like The Guest.

Wherein the metaplot is that Skynet is revealed to have written and funded the film itself, thus explaining why a franchise without a good movie in 2 decades lives on.

1. Don't call it Terminator 6.
2. Ignore everything after T2.
3. Give us the future war movie we've wanted for 25 years.

Then end the franchise. That's it.

This could also be the backstory for the Alien universe.

Hard reboot

No Arnold

No "I'll Be Back" / "Come With Me If You Want To Live"

Get back to hunter/hunted and throw in a few big T2 style setpieces

Please leave the timeline alone

Hard reboot, no Arnold, focus on the horror roots of the original film rather than on upping the effects/setpiece ante. That's the only way to do it. Unfortunately, I don't think that's what we're getting, and that instead Cameron is intent on continuing the franchise the "right" way.

This could also be the backstory for the Alien universe.

In a shared universe docudrama film due out in 2035 it is revealed that Skynet employed artists and scientists and specialists to fabricate a massive xenomorph attack on downtown New York to unite the world into false world peace so that when Skynet made its move to take over it would be against a far more passive and docile human race.

The Netflix movie? I just saw that the other day and I liked it. What's there to redeem?

Well, that's your personal opinion of the film, and that's OK. The film was, however, maligned by critics and the majority of the audience, along with Blair Witch, so there's that.

It's really amazing how one cult classic and one blockbuster can justify so many entries into a universe with so few key characters.

What a talent-less hack.

I did not love Deadpool but I recognize that it was exactly the movie it needed to be. Still, this news is not all that exciting to me. But it's not like the Terminator franchise can get any worse, even though the last one was mildly amusing in spots in spite of itself. Oh well, we'll see. I just hope the producers financing this have some ambition this time around. And please, no Arnold. I love the guy but it's time to move on.

Future war doesn't happen thanks to T2, have to ignore that too.

What I want.

Get rid of Connor. Her/His character has been run into the ground. Give it a smaller budget. Work on another personal story not tied down to some grand mythos

Some day someone is going to finally make the future war movie everyone's been wanting forever. Probably going to take them another ten movies though.

Ok

Imagine Judgement Day didn't happen

But then Global Warming or something, so then robots

But then the robots do stuff

And then the people send through time to stop global warming

But the robot company wants global warming to happen so they get the $$$$$

It's this whole thing and idk they shoot up a police station

I'm optimistic that a good Terminator film is still possible. Might be worth it to try a return to a lower budget slasher film like Terminator 1. Make it a bottle film following the template of 10 Cloverfield Lane, or something like that. Small scale, dark, scary, and thrilling, with good actors that can pull off emotional, tense, and horror scenes.

I just think it would be easier to succeed with a smaller film that has a clever viral marketing campaign that chases Terminator 1 rather than trying to outdo the popcorn smash of Terminator 2 like they've failed to do for damn near 20 years. You aren't going to create a better T1000, or a better highway chase scene, or a better plot of timeline fuckery, so just stop. Stop with the Kyle Reese, John Connor, Sarah Connor spinoffs, settle in the universe and tell a small story of the survivors of Judgement Day.

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
I'd love a smaller scale, lower stakes movie that builds on the scary aspects of T1/T2. Maybe ignore the baggage that Arnold/Connor bring and try someone unrelated.

I always wondered what T1 would have been like if they kept you guessing whether or not Reese was just some drugged out crazy guy running from some mob enforcer until much later in the film.

Eh, probably wouldn't have worked.

Make it in the same universe but the Terminator goes back to medieval times to kill Sarah Connor's ancestors, make him like the Mountain and have some sweet horse chases.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

Haha its just a series of robots being sent back earlier and earlier in time but constantly failing.
