Spoilers for 684 are out:

Aizen deactivates Kyoka Suigetsu. Yhwach says he will change the future where he died and attacks Ichigo. Ishida shoots him with the silver arrowhead (Gin's arrowhead) and Yhwach's abilities are totally shut for an instant.

Ichigo attacks him with Zangetsu, Yhwach gets his abilities back and blocks it with one hand, but Zangetsu's outer shell cracks and Zangetsu's shikai (Ichigo's very first Shikai) appears from inside it, slashing Yhwach in half.

That's fucking stupid.

Oh it's dumb as SHIT. Don't get me wrong.

But at least there's a fucking plot to most of it. Like, there was a meta plot established about the dragons and Zeref like, 3 arcs in.

It was all stupid as shit, but at least it was a plot. At least there was a point to it all.

Bleach has 0 plot. It's so weird. I'm struggling to remember any other series like it. Because there IS NO NARRATIVE. It's just "beat this guy then beat this guy then we're done". Not even when it was good did it have a plot, just the possibility of one.

Yeah, the closest Bleach ever came to a main plot was "Rukia is going to be executed because of..umm...uhh...reasons, I guess. We're very strict about weird esoteric things sometimes for some reason. One of our top guys is a murderous mad scientist clown and we're cool with that for some reason, though."

So is Aizen still on the level where he his reiatsu couldn't be sensed and he was "transcendent" or whatever, I don't remember anyone saying anything about it. How does current Ichigo stack up against Mugetsu, I assume he should be stronger but he doesn't seem to be transcendent like before, or he is and I just don't be remember.

Not really sure, but the fact that he's keeping up with an Aizen that's supposedly much stronger than his final monster form all the way back in the Deicide Arc against Yhwach means Ichigo's fairly close to his Mugetsu level, if not exceeding it. I'm fairly sure that was Kubo's intent.

But Kubo can't depict scale or relative power for shit, which is why Ichigo seems piss-weak for no reason right now.

Yeah, there's nothing to work towards or resolve. In the case of Naruto, people were awaiting Naruto/Sasuke's final confrontation and resolution of their long-running conflict. Here, there's nothing to anticipate.

I guess that's why people find Ichigo such a lame MC. He has no overarching goal, no dream to fulfill, and he has no discernible personality from fucking Renji, lol. His moveset is exactly one technique and he has a really generic design as well, which is odd coming from Kubo. Also, he loses the vast majority of his fights and goes through the same despair-resolve arc against four opponents consecutively

Kubo loves to add random shit and padding whenever he can't figure out how to progress the plot or develop characters, which is why you see Ichigo with like, fifty chapters explaining his past and his mom's past and whatever, but hilariously enough, none of that adds to Ichigo's character. It's just filler information. Oh, Ichigo's mom was a Quincy who was saved by his father? Who cares? I'm fairly sure most have already forgotten about that worthless subplot.

You can't root for him. It'd be like rooting for a brick wall to continue standing for the next fifty years, there's no point.

This is a big part of why I stopped reading a little bit into the arc after Aizen was defeated way back when. There's just no compelling reason for anything that happens.

Also seeing it mentioned in this thread that Aizen's bankai is still unknown had me look that up on the wiki to see if that was actually true, and I was reminded of the character Gin. Jesus, how stupid did that character turn out. Am I right in remembering that he was against Aizen the entire time but waited until Aizen was literally invincible before betraying him for absolutely no reason?

And it's a shame too, because Kubo writes some kick ass powers, like he rivals Araki sometimes in how awesome and creative he gets with these things, but he can't do anything with them because he can't write fights and he can't write anything else since Bleach is basically 700 chapters of endless non-stop wall to wall fights.

He also ran into the problem of writing 4 distinct, completely different factions, that all have exactly the same powers and power set structures. Transformation, each one has one power, second transformation.

Hehe I'm kind of surprised. I dont keep up with the bleach fanbase, I thought it was only me that was having a hard time with this series. I'm like wtf end already. What really pisses me off is that anytime someone new shows up its the exact power to counter some impossible to beat power. Like oh you finally release your freaking bankai and it happens to be exactly what can counter this. And every fight that comes after they're gonna do it again and again and again one after the other. Nice.

Unpopular opinion but Fullbringer arc was sort of written better.

I've been saying for years now that the Fullbringer arc, while terrible, was still much much better than this meandering shit fest of a final arc. Which is really saying something.

I still don't even know what this arc is really about, how the Quincies even managed to get all these crazy powers that we've never seen even hinted at in the past, or what their actual motivations are beyond "we're the villains now, I guess."

I'm a big fan of the Fullbringer arc because I feel like it brought back some of the slice of life stuff and Tsukishima and Ginjo were entertaining as fuck. I think it's also because I love watching Ichigo get beaten down so Ginjo huge troll was priceless. Ichigo has zero personality after the Soul Society arc so it's hard to find him likeable and therefore hard to root for him.

I was about to say "Well, clearly this was rushed," but then you consider he has had years to bring this arc to a conclusion he knew was coming and still had to rush it at the end.

I'd read Bleach since Chapter 1 first dropped and stopped reading it halfway through this arc because he just didn't know how to end it, and it was obvious.

It got dragged and dragged and dragged and dragged, for, as well all know now, no fucking reason at all.

This arc has been four years long.

We still don't know what happened 1000 years ago between Yhwach and Yamamoto.

Or seen really anything substantive about his dad, or Ishida's dad, or why Ishida got special powers and not his dad or see his dad DO anything, or 1/3rd of the Captain's or other Captain level Shini's Bankai, or where the fuck Soi Fong went, or why half the Vizards just didn't even bother to show up. Or any other number of 1000 things he could have done other than give Ichigo his fucking FIFTH internal training montage.

It's absurd. It's the last arc just show peoples powers that's the only reason it's dwindling audience held on at all.

Yeah, one of the reasons I liked the Fullbringer arc was how Shuu-chan trolled Ichigo. Turning his own family, friends, and seemingly, fullbringer allies, against him, that was amusing.

Remember when it was hyped up that we were going to see Unohana's bankai, which was supposedly one of the most badass of all, and it DID FUCKING NOTHING and we still don't even know what its power was supposed to be?

Good times.

Kubo seems like he was running out of cool Bankai ideas...

Shunsui's was fucking brilliant. Other than that yeah.

Good times.

Remember how there was a giant war going on where countless captain level Shinigami were killed (speaking of which, how come Hitsugaya got to come back from being a zombie but the Vizard Captains just fucking vanish, wouldn't they be useful to have back too?) and they thought it was a good idea to kill their best healer?

Soifon's big fucking gun is hilariously uninspired.

Yeah that was... yeah.

I love it too since her first power is "If I touch the same place twice you die" like aw shit son her Bankai gotta be some next level assassin shit...

Oh it's a one use rocket launcher that cuts off her arm... oh.

It wasn't even that good of a rocket launcher. Ichigo threw out some base level Getsuga Tensho's that did more.

And Ichigo straight up kills a guy. Like, just kills him. I don't think Ichigo ever fought his opponents with the intention of killing them up to that point, yet no one seems to care or even comment on it lol.

Well, I was interested in the mystery of the Soul King then the connection between him and Yhwach, but that sidelined in favor of these filler fights. It probably would've worked better too if that had more of a focus, even Naruto got that one closer to right.

Remember Halibel?

Kubo should have left some characters dead: Her, Grimmjow, the fullbringers and Byakuya, for starters. They did basically nothing anyway

LMAO holy shiiiiiit I forgot about her. What even happened to her? It was implied that they rescued her...right? Why did they even enslave the Arrancar again?

Why do the Quincies do anything again?

Their powers make no sense.

Their motivations make no sense.

Like the Arrancar being freaks at least made some sense, they were former Hollows. These are just random things and they don't even use bows and arrows, which was basically what defined Quincies before this fucking stupid arc.

Nope. She was shown that one time and never again. Ywach mentioned that they were being enslaved to be soldiers, but after Haribel was shown, we never saw another Arrancar-Quincy soldier.

Remember when Ishida drank Ywach's blood and became an official A but somehow wasn't killed by the Ywach Homing Missile that killed all the other quincies

The start of the arc made a point to show that the Ishida family was special, but Kubo never went into it really. And the few times it was brought up, there would be more questions, but no answers.

I love how Miracle guy and Juugo were so fucking broken Kubo couldn't realize a way for the heroes to beat them, so he just had Yhwach sap their powers for no reason at all because why not? I mean seriously, the miracle alone is hilarious in that how could Kubo NOT realize that a power that makes you stronger any time you take any sort of damage (including fatal damage), with literally no cap that also seemingly can't be sealed in any way was going to be completely unbeatable

Just when I thought Kubo actually had the gall to kill some shinigamis, he instead decided to keep him alive. So disappointed. Same with Hitsugaya.

The same could be said for the fullbringers. It seemed like Ginjo had some grudge against soul society, but we never learned what it was, or how a random human even became a substitute shinigami in the first place. It's ever more hilarious considering how Kubo ended that one chapter with a panel starting a Ginjo Tsukishima flashback, only for the next chapter to completely ignore that and the flashback never came

Bleach is almost over? And it sounds like it's gonna get the god awful ending we all hoped against but totally expected?

Delicious.

Oh god. The only way to end this really is to have Aizen come out and say this was all an illusion. Aizen has to win and everyone else die in order for this ending to be at all satisfying. There was no Yhwach, no Sternritters. There is only Aizen and his Soul Society.

Also why is Soi Fongs Shikai way way better than her fucking Bankai which was always useless.

God I start remembering stuff.

God I start remembering stuff.

I love how during the Yamamoto fight they go on about how a bankai's power is always the same as the shikai, but better, and then I ask myself how that applies to Soi Fong's bazooka at all

hahahahahaha!!!! wut!?!?!?! that's the stupidest shit I think I'm ever going to read!!!!

Remember when Unohana died so Kenpachi could barely win against some irrelevant Quincy, get fucked up by a gang of other fodder Quincies, get fucked up by Pernida, and beat himself against Gerard?

Fucking lol

Well after Aizen no sold her shikai I'd say her bankai would've been slightly more effective there, probably would've ended up hitting Hinamori but eh.

My personal theory is that her main ability is explosion based. Her Shikai is basically a localized explosion that needs to be triggered, thus the two hits, while her Bankai is a full on artillery blast that explodes on impact.

Fucking lol

That was some pure fuckshit. What gets me is people defended that shit and called it beautiful. People who didn't like it just didn't "understand" what Kubo was going for.
