Kubo wrote himself into a corner giving Ichigo super speed as a bankai, speed is too broken of a power when fights are fought/settled mostly via melee. Either you give all your villains unique powers that can negate or handle a speed disadvantage or you say fuck it and just forget about that super speed power.
It's not that hard to invent powers for villains that still make them challenging with a speed disadvantage.

Like give a villain super tough skin or regeneration, so it doesn't matter how many times the hero hits them. Then the hero has to think of other ways to use their speed to win.

Or hell, just come up with something broken. Bleach already has tons of abilities that would be hard for a speedster to deal with, like the 2nd Arrancar's aging field or Shinji's reversed perspective.

Or even make a villain whose gimmick is super speed, and then have that villain be the hero's rival/nemesis. Then write some fights about them being crazy fast.

Super speed really isn't that hard to write around, provided it's not completely broken super speed like the Flash's. Kubo just sucks.

get some go again
so do you guys consider urahara a let down? he was one of the more mysterious characters and his bankai wasn't all that great.

Yeah, forgot that. So much hype for his bankai and it was basically: you hurt me, I will heal myself immediately and become more powerful.

It's a series where people survive fucking half theirf bodies and the entirety of their internal organs being blown apart (which begs the question, how did Yama die).

Damage has never been consistent in this shit.

Yama was sliced in half then head stomped which destroyed his head then burnt to ashes. It probably most brutal death in series and was just show how evil Bach was.

They should have made this last arc about him, or at least involve him more in the overall "plot". I put plot in quotation marks because it's more like a series of random events.

That was an illusion.

But it'd either be one shot or never fight him anyway.

Was it? I think Renji's arm getting cut was real. The illusion was Ywach thinking he was stabbing Ichigo when he was actually stabbing Aizen.

Unless this week changes that interpretation.

I don't see how many of these problems can be solved with a Getsuuga Tenshou so Kubo would never use them.

Illusion Ichigo was missing an arm and it LOOKED like Renji's bankai was crumbling off of him. They likely weren't even there until the end of the chapter.

What a mess Bleach turned out to be. I dropped it when the quincies invaded Soul Society but kept up with it periodically through reading summaries. Funny how Kubo can drag something out for so damn long and still have a horribly rushed ending.

All this made me remember a poster here who acted like Bleach was one of the greatest, deepest, smartest series in all of fiction. I think he's banned now (Beam/something Viking?) but it would have been hilarious to see how he could spin this crap as a positive.

Can we talk about how garbage Ichigo's bankai is? Even Renji's first bankai was more interesting. Hell his entire Zanpakuto is lame as fuck. He gets a giant butcher knife that shoots energy waves. Generic. But then he gets this badass bankai:

Look at that shit. A nice-looking black katana that lets him move at very high speeds.

Except like two chapters/episodes later, everyone is moving as fast as he does when he uses his bankai. So it basically becomes a regular fucking sword that he probably only uses to fight more comfortably because swinging around that giant cumbersome shikai was a pain in the ass. A shikai that he didn't even use correctly.

And what does it even do now? It's a multi-layered sword that getsugas extra hard? Fuck you.

Dammit, I was happier thinking this manga was always shit after it stopped with the interesting start before the rescue arc. Now I remember it actually was ok after that, and now it's just hot garbage.

It's almost like he realized he had nothing interesting to do with Ichigo, so they just kept adding more and more characters, so the manga started being about the captains, not the main character. :p

well that's the thing, you keep coming up with stuff like that for every person Ichigo fights then you have to be a lot more creative with Ichigo's powerset who wins by spamming a more powerful getsuga all the time, Kubo just doesn't have the patience for that shit. Like his fight with Aizen who was immortal, Ichigo's big answer was to hit him with a big ass getsuga, it failed and he would've lost if not for Urahara's kido taking effect.

Ichigo doesn't even have a good rival. How do you mess up that? That's shonen battle manga 101.

It was going to be Ishida, until it wasn't. Then it was going to be Renji, until it wasn't. Then it was going to be Kenpachi, until it wasn't. Then Byakuya. Then Grimmjow. Then Ishida again?? Then just nothing.

Ichigo's greatest rival was narrative structure.

I love how during the Yamamoto fight they go on about how a bankai's power is always the same as the shikai, but better, and then I ask myself how that applies to Soi Fong's bazooka at all

I think the connection can be thematic rather than a direct upgrade of a power.
Like, you wouldn't have a guy whose Shikai was turning stuff green and his Bankai was shooting candy...
But Soi Fon's Shikai is a "hornet stinger" and her Bankai is a "stinger missile."

So...Yachiru just sort of...disappeared forever, huh?
Shinji embarrassed himself in almost every fight he's ever been in?
Kira's just some kind of Frankenstein now?
The whole Zombie thing's never going to be better explained? A bunch of people really just died and Kurotsuchi brought them back through pure Deus Ex Machina?

Also, the Fullbring arc had such a cool set up before it starting throwing up all over itself.
After 2 lengthy arcs about the "other" worlds there's a group of mysterious humans with powers and they have a sweet stylish secret base?
Chad is actually a member and he's been training like mad? Can't wait to see this pay off!
Orihime has resolve to not be useless anymore! What kind of tricks will she come up with her "god-like" abilities to keep up with the quick and powerful characters of this series?
Orihime said:
"Running into things is bad!"
This Ginjo guy won't shut up about Ichigo's Fullbring needing to be named, there's no way they'll end this arc without revealing an awesome name for it at a dramatic moment.
...So the Butler guy's power is that he can shoot glowing, exploding ghost-numbers?
...Tsukishima's just runnin' around doin' stuff with a fist sized hole straight through his spine...

Guys, it's a shonen. The final chapter is going to be a time skip, where they either talk about how they wrapped up all the loose ends during the intervening years, or they won't bring up any loose ends at all.

At least everyone won't have babies that look like amalgams of eachother down to the clothing.

I have the box set of manga volumes spanning from the beginning of the series to the end of Soul Society arc. Pretty much the only time the series was good. Depending on how this ends, I'm probably going to sell it out of spite. The only thing that will keep me from selling it at this point is if the last chapter gives us some kind of resolution between Ichigo and Rukia. Doubtful.

It can end as shitty as it wants
As long as it's ending
So close
What will have a worst ending, Reborn or Bleach?
Reborn was on a mission to end bad and wouldn't settle for anything else
Bleach is just shitty by default and would like to be better if it could help it

what was the reborn ending anyway? i remember hating it but i totally forgot it. all i remember is him still being a weak ass main character.

Tsuna couldn't even chose between his 2 love interest, he realize he sucks and hasn't changed from the start, but at least he has friends and Reborn around.

Holy shit. Talked about rushed as all hell. Have we even seen the bankai of everyone?

Kubo says Kira has a digesting bankai, we yet to see it.

Hisagi been said to have a bankai, got snipe by Lille and won't see it.

Isshin Bankai has been hinted at and made reference if he loses to much blood it's dangerous to use, we don't see it.
