Tite Kubo's Bleach Manga Nears Ending

Fullbring concept felt like something that should've been in a different manga, like Kubo had an idea for a one shot and just put it in Bleach while aping YYH's Chapter Black.

I hate to be an actually fan of this series right now, lol.
At least a 100% unironic fan who doesn't temper their expectations and/or follow partially out of morbid fascination. I've generally enjoyed following it even as of late, but it's so dragged out and has such a bad habit of dropping things that I'm just rolling with the punches rather than getting too worked up.

at this point i think it would be best to leave it ambiguous about ichigo being in aizens bankai from the start.

Ichigo is actually Aizen's Bankai. the whole thing is Aizen trying to communicate with his sword to get Ichigo to remember him. remember how Yachiru turned out to be Kenpachi's Bankai? same deal here but the Bankai (Ichigo) is the one that forgot instead of the user.

Kubo tries too. At trolling.

He succeeds every time.

Can't help but think of this.

edit: Personally, I think bleach wasn't as bad recently as people tried to portray. It's just that it used to be soo goood!

Not...really?

Bleach was good for literally one arc a decade ago.

Everything since has ranged from mediocre to horrible. It just so happens that the current arc is indisputably the worst the manga has ever produced.

Arrancar add absolutely NOTHING to the story. It's so weird that so much time is spent on them when they are absolutely and utterly meaningless other than a convenient plot device to have half the SS be elsewhere instead of fighting Aizen.

To be fair, it IS a shonen manga. Having random new enemies to fight and show of the characters' abilities is a pretty common trope.

But you can tell they start getting lazier as things go on.

Arrancar were certainly no Thirteen Companies, and the Arrancar were at least more fun than the Quincies.

i see the ichiruki/ichihime ship wars will continue until the very last nonsensical page of this god forsaken shitrag we call a manga

This ships always sink at the end and I'm fine with it. Unless this turns into the 'Naruto is ending bu-bu-my ship!' thread and shit goes so sideways we face a lock.

it good for only one arc and people followed it for over 10 years? Nope. It was good/really good until the end of the Aizen Arc.

Everything from the beginning to the end of the SS arc was great, but I'd say the Arrancar arc is mediocre as hell (sometimes just bad) save for a few good moments here and there.

Most of the arrancar arc is just a trite retread of Soul Society and the Fake Karakura Town shit is almost as asspull-y and nonsensical as the current arc.

As someone who just started reading bleach last year: It's never been good. Early Bleach had sloppy art, incredibly irritating characters and bad bad bad monster of the week stories.

Things started to get interesting when Byakuya and Renji showed up but I was still really disappointed with every thing after. A lot of the fights in the SS arc are mediocre at best; the creativity is there but it is just wildly inconsistent. It is has some cool highs that kept me reading but everything in between is such a dragggg

the only great thing after SS arc were Aizen shenanigans, this motherfucker revealing he planned Ichigo's life from before he was born still kills me, can't get anymore Aizen then that.

1st Grimmjow fight, Gin and Old Man Genocide's bankais were fun too.

Yeah, that's actually exactly it. The SS Arc was good enough to warrant people following it. The dynamic between Ichigo and Grimmjow kept things chugging along, as well as Ulquiorra.

But looking at the Arrancar and Winter War Arcs objectively? They had absolutely horrible pacing (Aizen playing Scooby-Doo with Ichigo's friends for ten chapters), ridiculous moments (Yammy being Cero Espada, everything about Aizen), frequent character assassinations (the top three Espada being useless), and really, really bad fights (Kenpachi vs. Nnoitra, Ichigo vs. Ulquiorra). They were garbage.

My personal favorite bad moment was when Ichigo offered Ulquiorra to cut off one leg and one arm after he awoke from his Hollow rampage.

Meh, its not about the story at this point.... its all about nostalgia. I stopped watching/reading a little after Aizen's defeat, but I will catch up when its all finished.

Given the circumstances, writing an extremely good cliffhanger is probably the best bet (my terrible attempt):

Chapter 685: Return to nothing, bleach.

Yhwach though defeated, is still alive. Aizen is no where to be found. Ichigo, finally feeling the damage Yhwach has given to him collapses. Suddenly a huge explosion appears, Yhwach's corpse begins to transform and Ichigo stands yet again preparing for battle.

The corpse implodes, revealing Aizen's silhouette. Ichigo asks if it is him, and he says that he has again transformed, thanks to Yhwach. Ichigo begins to leave when Aizen grabs him from the behind on the shoulder.

Ichigo, looking dazzled, asking him why he's doing this. Aizen says that he's confused, and Ichigo doesn't understand. Finally, Aizen says, "... since when where you under the impression, that we were ever finished?"

[ Panels of every encounter between Ichigo and Aizen are shown, revealing that all of Ichigo's fights with every non-hollow character in the Manga has actually been with Aizen. ]

Aizen then says

"Bankai."

[end]

Is there anyway the manga could embed the Saw film music into it when the revelations are taking place?

Literally the only reason I'm following this shitshow of a manga at all is to see if IchiHime happens or not. I stopped caring about this when the Fake Karakura arc lasted for literal years. As it went, I loved the Soul Society arc, and even the Arrancar. But looking back its obvious that the early parts of Bleach are the best, and Soul Society is still great, but all of Bleach's future problems are clearly present sprouting from it.

Cmon IchiHime. I got NaruHina, if this happens I'll have both of my childhood pairings come true!

I think the biggest issue with this arc is that it'd probably be way more interesting if it delved into Quincy history, more intrigue for the current Quincies akin to what was going on in Soul Society, and how Yhwach and by extension they are connected to the Soul King. I was hoping that at the climax we'd at least be covering who/what the Soul King is/was, but at best that's rushed out next chapter or detailed in a data book, at worst "uhh I dunno."

The moment Byakuya and Renji showed up is when the series fell into an inconsistent pace. It's like Kubo felt like his series needed to quickly expand it's roster and world like all shonen mangas do overtime but he wanted to do it as soon as possible. Right when those two showed up Grand Fisher was being set-up as a major villain, we began to understand Hollows a little better, and we were warming up to Inchigo's friends and family.

I thought Ichigo vs. Ulquiorra was good in the anime at least but that's because I love the Hollow design and absolutely adore watching Ichigo getting his ass kicked. And it gave is this scene from the movie.

MISERY IS WAITING AT THE GATES OF ARMAGEDDON

I had no idea that there were Bleach movies, I sorta wanna watch this cus the animation in that clip was amazing.

Why is one of the movies covering that fight, though? Was it not shown in the anime and instead made into a movie or did they just re-do that arc but make it into a movie with better animation?

For me, the biggest letdown of Bleach besides Chad would have to be Nel.

The reveal that Nel was formally number 3 of the Espadas was a super awesome moment, and her subsequent fight was also cool as heck. Her design also resembles Emeralda from Xenogears, one of my favorite character designs ever.

But then the author literally forgot about the character while he proceeded to have the shits from the Soul Society fight a bunch of henchmen for the next hundred episodes.

I don't think there's a greater example of stumbling so hard with what should have been an awesome premise that wrote itself. Even the most amateur manga author knows that you never forget to push the waifus, yet Kubo couldn't even manage that much.

the sheer contrast between this thread and Naruto's ending announcement thread a couple years back is hilarious

Ikr. Naruto's ending announcement brought excitement, sadness, nostalgia, and of course crazy fan wars whereas most of comments here seem to be here out of morbid curiosity. Where are the celebratory Bleach fans, though I guess the axing is massively disappointing to those fans.

Only that first scene of the movie looks that good, though the rest isn't bad animation-wise. That's from the fourth movie and that part is basically the villain watching a clip. The movie isn't very good, none of them are. Except maybe the first one.

There's like one Gaffer who's still a Bleach fan.

There are Bleach fans, I get tweets and letters from them at least once a week.

They're just all really embittered and defensive now. People (rightfully) clown on Bleach constantly, so people who like Bleach's only real defense of it has been "WELL STOP READING IT THEN."

And it's, like, well, I will. In one week.

I don't blame them. It's been nothing but terrible since Yamamoto died.

It had one bright spot in Yhwach vs. Ichibei, but for the past four years, that is pretty lame.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
I have to wonder if Kubo pissed off some major higher-ups at Shueisha.
When Naruto ended, it was a big deal. Its final week in Jump gave it two chapters (699 & 700), with 700 having extra pages and in full color. A series was cancelled early to acommadate Naruto getting two chapters (something Condor, I don't know).

Bleach meanwhile is not given the same attention. Along with the clear rushing, its finale is losing spotlight to Nisekoi. Nisekoi, a romcom harem series that has run for five or so years is getting a more respectable sendoff than the long running Bleach.

WSJ make no sense. Naruto did not get the cover for that issue, to which even Oda complained. Bleach should of got the cover for the next issue but spotlight is placed on a 5 year romcom that has a smaller fanbase than Bleach, even after its decline.

Honestly, not even a big Bleach fan, but the way WSJ treats it is disgusting. Would not be surprised if there was bad blood between the two.

In the end, I can't see Bleach being even remembered. Too little happened for any of it being memorable since the Aizen arc.

Yeesh. What a way to go out, with a whimper.

Naruto was the most popular series behind One Piece, Bleach lurks around somewhere near the bottom. I bet if My Hero Academy or Shokugeki ended next week they'd get more attention from WSJ than Bleach.

You guys aren't going to see these ships set sail.

It's way better if he doesn't with this.

Just do it if Kubo even bothers doing post chapters later, like Assassination Classroom or extras in a databook.

Jump series never get a front cover for there endings...EVER! Only Slam Dunk ever did, the only manga back then that was DBZ rival and that was an anomaly in it's self.

SD > DB confirmed

I will always remember Bleach for what it could have been rather than what it was.

That first year when it was really trying hard to be a shonen manga with a sense of style that was really reinforced by the anime's opening and first few episodes.

Then Kubo just got lost and never found his way back again.

To anyone who says they liked the anime version of Grimmjow vs Ichigo in Hueco Mundo or Ulquiorra vs Ichigo, did you like the part where Orihime says KUROSAKI-KUN on repeat every 60 seconds? It was especially bad in the Grimmjow fight.

After watching enough Shonen anime you just learn to ignore the constant "Protagonist-kun"

That's where I started feeling down about Bleach. The beginning felt fresh with side characters getting powers, Rukia having a neat dynamic with Ichigo, the town revealing more mysteries, and a cool looking style all around. I loved Chad and appreciated having a character with Hispanic heritage in a big shonen manga.

Then Soul Society happened and it became more of a generic shonen to me.

Also Chad never did anything of real importance. The same could be said of probably 80% of the characters, but he was one of the first supporting characters introduced!
