Today's dumbest thread: I bought a Wii U yesterday, kinda regreting it

I liked the game but my biggest problem for some reason was rolling bombs. On one hand motion control was neat. It added immersion (swinging your sword in certain directions to hit weak points) and on the other hand it hurt the game.

Still a great game but when motion controls sometimes failed it hurt the experience.

We won't have this issue with Zelda U though

Should've kept bombchus in the game TBH.

Great is a stretch, coming from TP to SS, but when motion controls work, the game was really fun to play.

I dunno what to tell you man, I wasn't a fan and it wasn't just that they didn't work but the controls weren't fun. Everything about it broke immersion so it wasn't engrossing but everything felt like a chore. "Go here find these song things" "go here scout this area" "go here fight this same boss 3 times" etc. It just felt like everything was padded and extremely boring.

There were some cool things (that desert oasis level) but overall as a game it's one of the worst Zelda games to me. Only the horrible DS games are worse.

I agreed with the bolded. You aren't wrong.

Just... in a world with CDi Zelda games, I'm hard pressed to call SS a terrible game.

Why am I laughing so hard at this? Lol

Honestly, sometimes I regret buying a WiiU, too but then I just think about games like Xenoblade Chronicles X, Zelda U and Starfox U, that you'll ONLY find on the WiiU. - It may bug you for awhile but keep it. The great games are coming.

Some people know what they like and don't like. For example: if a book or show doesn't grab me by the first chapter or couple episodes I'm done. I know what I like.

But the TC has allegedly played the Wii U a ton already prior to purchase, as evidenced by his posting history.

I think it is petty for moderators to call a user stupid over a pretty standard decision; I don't see what's dumb about regretting an impulse purchase.

It is a standard decision to buy a dedicated system with a single focus at it´s core....and then want to get rid of it before even testing it´s strong point ?

Would you get rid of a camera without even taking a single snapshot because that one menue is slow ?

I´d say thats pretty dumb .

There are lots of video games in places where people don't have to slog through poor interfaces.
Yeah, the Wii U is one of those places. It just took 15 seconds and two button taps to get from a powered down Wii U to the Bayonetta 2 start up screen. What a slog.

Is using that term still bannable?

You haven't been around very long have you?

I hope not; I was only using it in regards to the earlier comments in this thread pointing out that, apparently, the same users always post in threads about Nintendo. I had no idea that "Nintendo Defense Force" was even a real term people used.
I was being sarcastic.

As for how long I've been here, on a forum as old as NeoGAF, I'm not sure what definition of "very long" to use; I joined about six months ago.

My statement wasn't about the Wii U itself. I just didn't understand why regretting an impulse purchase was a bad thing.

Yeah I don't consider those acceptable to compare to since those are just some of the absolute worst games in history so even crap like Aquaman look like good games comparatively.

I still don't understand why people hate the Wii U's OS. It's fine to me, even compared to the PS4. Hell, I honestly prefer the Wii U's layout with the channels and folders. Makes it easier to organize games for easier access. It could be a bit faster, sure, but it's not so slow that I want to sell the system.

I got caught up in the hype, the low price at retailers, the buy one get one for certain % off, I haven't open any of the games, but then i played the bayonetta 2 demo and holy shit, that game looks and plays great, but is very dificult to use the menu of the console, everything is so slow ( i have a ps4 ) the games i got worh the system are m, DK:TP, zelda WW:HD, mario k8, SSB, super M3DW, have any of you wii u owners had that feeling of just returning the system? Did you regret keeping it?

Edit:Ok, maybe i need to elaborate things a bit more clear, a friend of mine got the console on BF with some of the games i got ad well, went to his house, played the games and had some fun, than better deals star to show up and i got this urge of buying the console, maybe it was nostalgia, i don't even know, i just that now that i have and think about what's to come for it next year that i like it's only zelda, but im in a place that my mind is 50/50, keep it, play the games to completion and than what? Have it there, just collecting dust? But it was such a good deal that is what's keeping me from returnjng it, i got the console and those 5 games for $387 and change at BB

While it's certainly not true (in my view) that the Wii U has the best library (not even close)... you should probably update the system and try the games before deciding.

Like me, you may find the games overrated by hardcore Nintendo fans, but at least (also like me) you would know for sure because you gave them a chance.

Smash is pretty fun, though.

(Melee still the king)

Does that refer to the OP or the Nintendo Defense Force in this thread?

If it's the latter, it's pretty funny; if the former, I'm disappointed, as I have never witnessed such a petty, vindictive act by the NeoGAF mod team.
Usually they are really professional.

That being said, I don't understand OP's dilemma here. If he only bought the console recently and hasn't opened most of the games, returning it should be quite simple
.

You actually answered your own question.

If you ask me, I think it's dumb to tell a whole forum that you're regretting you're investment on a console while you haven't unwrapped a single game and only tried a demo and disliked the UI.

Oh, and generalizing people over a defense force is kinda frowned upon, too. I think people, including the mod that changed the title, just points out the obvious that this thread was really dumb in the first place. Caliing mods out for lack of professionalism over this 'non-issue' is just as dumb.

IDK, if the guy would've came out here saying he played some games, tried out the controllers and disliked his overall experience with some points that would actually make sense instead of just saying what he said in the first place, OK, fine, but this? Naaaah.

But then he can't return them and supposedly already tried them or something. I dunno this whole post is bizarre from OP and from the defense squad perspectives. Why they can't just move on when someone doesn't like something they like I won't understand.

You would find out after reading the OT

Do mean the OP? I did read the OP, and I still don't see the issue. I know being upset by the menu's responsiveness seems silly, but some people care a lot about the little things like that; when they are somehow lacking, it can sour the entire experience.

And besides, he did spend almost $400 on this. I can see why he may want to reconsider if he isn't totally sure he'll enjoy using the system.

Well, when you put it that way it does seem pretty silly. Maybe he just wanted some advice? It sounds like he really does want the console, but he just needs more justification for keeping it. Maybe that's why he made this thread.

Games are great, console is not, I'm afraid.

That's been Nintendo hardware since the Wii, really. They cut costs at every corner with the development of their systems, but they make stellar games.

It was a great game but an average Zelda game.

I put off playing it because I wasn't playing the Wii much at all anymore because it had come to a point in where the lack of HD was getting to me. I am not a graphics whore by any means but it is hard going backwards from HD. I was playing a ton of 360 games and finally decided to play it.

It was a great game and was a breath of fresh air after the samey type of Assassin's Creeds, Elder Scrolls games

Even the boss fight early on in where
The big rolling thing chased you and you had to reach the bombs to knock it down the ramp and then in turn chase it and hit it only to be chased again after hitting it
was an awesome experience compared to the other AAA titles that were around at the time. (Sorry for the vague description...I just remember those moments and not what the boss looked like)

The motion controls did damper things at times though.

Defense squad? "They"?

How do you impulse buy a $400 console & games, because it was cheap?

Am i missing something, because i got a WiiU at launch & i regretted it then, but now it has some games i don't regret buying it at full price.

Yeah. OP, if you are concerned about hardware just as much as gameplay, I recommend that you build yourself a gaming PC. I was in a similar position to you at the start of this gen wherein I couldn't justify to myself purchasing fairly low-power hardware just to play a specific handful of games (and they are really good games, sadly), so I bought a powerful computer and became a PC gamer.

If you never want to worry about hardware again, do that. I'm not going to lie to you: good gaming PCs are more expensive than consoles, and great gaming PCs are much more expensive. But you'll never need to worry about things like slow menus ever again, and you'll save a lot of money on games.

Sure, this I can agree with.

Thing is, the only thing he asked was if other GAFers felt regret over owning the console, no advice or anything.

Defense force
or not, I can understand why he got shit all over him now. :lol

OP said:

.

OP should return it or sell it on B/S/T altogether. He doesn't sound happy with it and doesn't sound like he'll be patiently waiting for 2015 games.

In defence of the OP I was given a Wii U as a Birthday present (never owned a Nintendo home console before) and although I was extremely grateful, once I powered it up and started messing around with it I wasnt that impressed.

A few weeks later and I've sunk my teeth into a few games - now I love it.

If id spent a load of money on it I may have been a bit regretful initially. Once you play the games you realise it's an awesome system though..

More justification for a game console? A Nintendo console at that (Nintendo doesn't do entertainment features, like music, dvd/bd etc.)? I don't know, maybe the games he bought? Which he haven't played at all.

This thread would've gone in another direction if he actually tried the games he bought. People could understand his opinion if he didn't like the games or whatever. You don't return a game console because the UI isn't as fast as console B. You return it, because the bunch of games you bought aren't for you after all, AFTER HAVING PLAYED THEM.
