Today's dumbest thread: I bought a Wii U yesterday, kinda regreting it

That game was an anomaly (and quite good) compared to the last few Zelda games which were absolute garbage (Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Skyward Sword). And is actually my third favorite Zelda game all around (first being link to the past, second being wind waker).

"absolute garbage"

oh boy :D

yea, no. they definitely have their flaws but none of them is anywhere close to garbage.

I'll have to admit I'd make a similar thread if I bought an Xbox One or PS4... Except I'd play all the games I bought first, and I wouldn't have bought either system in the first place as I know I don't care for the games. So no, I actually wouldn't make a similar thread. :L

Seriously though, like I (and most of the sane people in this thread) have said, keep the system, play the games (the ones you got and the other amazing ones out now and upcoming), have fun, ?????, profit!

I think the Wii U is great because I love the games. I can understand that if the games aren't your thing, it might be lacking in other areas. What I can't understand is why you would buy a device and 5 of the best examples of media specific to said device, play none of them and decide its shit and you don't want it. Weird.

Nintendo and the Wii U doesn't have a big following on GAF? Huh?

That is an outright lie. Don't bring console wars stuff here.

Where did I lie? It's a recent observation. Markets change y'know.

Nintendo has had a recent great run,but Sony has just hosted a fan event where they revealed a lot of software that is enticing enough for a PS4 purchase.

IIRC Wii U was critiqued for everything, including it's very name since release. I know, I made a thread about that and posters told me I was 2 years too late with the criticisms.

Maybe your taste is the garbage. Think about that. Even PH which is a mediocre Zelda game is still an overall good game.

You know the Wii U actually turned out OK.

Now everyones starting to act like the wii U is just a bunch of GAF hype. It's the best current gen console on the market which is why GAF backs it
I normally ignore such posts but as it was shortly after my first contribution and takes quite a few liberties, the hell with it.

Will you please stop referring to "everyone", "GAF backs", and stating opinion as fact?

Aside from the obvious contradictory nature of the second and third sentences, you don't speak on behalf of me and others for that matter. "I believe the Wii U turned out OK, and think it's the best current generation console" would be far more appropriate and much appreciated.

Zelda SS was "absolute garbage"? Though I absolutely loved it, I can understand what people didn't like in it. But I have a hard time understanding how can one find it THAT bad.

People are seriously defending the OP ?

This guy don't blame the games, he blames the OS !

PS3 OS is a nightmare, it's slow as hell, the new PS Store has so much loading I can grow a beard before buying a game. AND STILL I like this console because it has good games.

Consoles by themselves are nothing, it's just a fucking low tier PC with a OS older than Windows 98, when people will start to give a fuck about what's important (hint : it starts with "G"), humanity will progress.

The console Zeldas have been great and the handheld ones have been pretty solid.

The biggest thing that hurt Skyward Sword were certain motion controls like throwing bombs but it was a great game.

I agree that Wind Waker on the Wii U is great though.

Also Zelda U is likely going to be great. No motion controls = win. It will also be nice to get a new Zelda in HD.

I bought one a few days ago with mario kart 8, nsmb wii u, mario world 3d, zombii U, nintendo land and some party game thing. I've only played nsmb wii u and mario kart so far and I'm so happy with my purchase it's been foreverrrr since I played a console mario game. Can't wait to get some nes and snes games on this thing too.

I don't think the DS games were horrible, the problem was the stylus control which made it annoying to play (especially for someone like me with a DS Lite and big hands)

I never owned a Nintendo home console so I missed out on all the Zelda games :(

Looking at some UK retailers, most Wii games are not in stock and the few that have a game or 2 in stock that I'm interested in don't send overseas (pretty sure)

Don't supposed these games are up on the Eshop or whatever its called?

it's OK. we won't judge you. The important thing is you're still posting on a forum about video games instead of playing or even liking them.

I have this weird feeling that I'm going to stop reading GAF for 6 months once I have my TV and consoles set up again at my new place, with my comfy new couch to sit in after work every day. This period of time where I can't play anything is driving me crazy.

I love how even this eventually became a Skyward Sword argument thread. I thought it only happened in (any) Zelda threads.

What was good about Skyward Sword? I can't think of a single thing other than upgrading items.

The motion controls were pretty 1:1 if they were set up properly.

Other than that, it was a dull Zelda game with lots of sky and no place to go.

I bought one when MK8 came out, played it for a couple of days and regretted buying it. Returned it and had to trade MK8 in for credit. Sometimes as people we do stupid things that we regret. If you don't want it and can return it, then by all means do so.

"Set up properly"? I was never able to get them to be 1:1 they worked roughly 80% of the time which is completely unacceptable. Not to mention it was billed as a " true sword feel" when really it was 8 possible preset slices. Not really dynamic at all. :/

Return it dude, just don't make a topic about it. The wiiu opinion is only allowed to go one way here.

How dare you, prepare to be run over by the N train now.

We have valuable posters like you who make damn sure that the other opinions are well represented :)

My goodness sir. I think you might need to have breakfast or something. And thanks for all the advice by the way

I didn't have a problem re-aligning my controls when I needed to, Bow controls felt ok. Using the shield and moving functioned competently.

I know another Gaffer had trouble with SS, maxcriden, and people were able to help him realign the controls and orient himself.

That title change.
Accurate title is accurate.
lmao @ the title change.

soo good

Does that refer to the OP or the Nintendo Defense Force in this thread?

If it's the latter, it's pretty funny; if the former, I'm disappointed, as I have never witnessed such a petty, vindictive act by the NeoGAF mod team.
Usually they are really professional.

That being said, I don't understand OP's dilemma here. If he only bought the console recently and hasn't opened most of the games, returning it should be quite simple.

I liked the game but my biggest problem for some reason was rolling bombs. On one hand motion control was neat. It added immersion (swinging your sword in certain directions to hit weak points) and on the other hand it hurt the game.

Still a great game but when motion controls sometimes failed it hurt the experience.

We won't have this issue with Zelda U though

I don't understand the original post, at all. I tried re-reading it several times, but no dice :-/

I had been eyeing the Wii U for a while, because of the strength of the games, but nothing pushed me over until they had the Mario Kart 8 bonus game deal (I used that deal to get Wind Waker HD). I jumped in, and have never looked back. In my eyes, at this point in time, it has absolutely the strongest software library of this current generation, by a country mile. And that's coming from me, a lifelong Nintendo skeptic.

Since I take my Wii U to various friends' houses quite often, I'm even thinking of getting a second Wii U down the road that will be my "at home" console.

these are the weirdest acronyms I've ever seen for these games

keep the Wii U OP it's a good system.

Hate to be that guy, but they're initialisms, not acronyms. To qualify as an acronym, you need to be able to pronounce it as a word. For example, COD is as acronym because you say it like "cod", the fish. DKC: TF is not, unless you try to pronounce it as "ducks tough" or something similar.

I dunno what to tell you man, I wasn't a fan and it wasn't just that they didn't work but the controls weren't fun. Everything about it broke immersion so it wasn't engrossing but everything felt like a chore. "Go here find these song things" "go here scout this area" "go here fight this same boss 3 times" etc. It just felt like everything was padded and extremely boring.

There were some cool things (that desert oasis level) but overall as a game it's one of the worst Zelda games to me. Only the horrible DS games are worse.

So accurately re-titling a thread is petty? :/

I think it is petty for moderators to call a user stupid over a pretty standard decision; I don't see what's dumb about regretting an impulse purchase, even if the purchase itself was not without merit.

You've been here six months. GAF mods keep shit really. They aren't ABC.com mods.
