I wanna get this game but the dark zone got me down. Any pointers for a noob?

The Dark Zone is 100% optional. You can get the same gear in a bunch of other ways, either solo, in an organised group or via match making.

But if you're gonna go in, go in with a team or go in to the less populated areas during off hours.

This game just "feels" so good right now. Almost everything feels balanced and useful with no unnecessary upward/downward snowballing - well besides the new D3 FNC builds but those loopholes will probably be patched.

Get to 229 GS using caches and then run Challenge modes to get to 256. If you run them enough you will get 4 pieces of Banshee's Shadow or you can use the Phoenix Creds to purchase extra gear set pieces. With that the only thing you lose/drop in the DZ are your items - no experience or funds plus it has fund bonuses. Anyway, makes soloing the DZ a nice little stroll. If I encounter an anal sphincter(s) (which literally 99% of DZ inhabitants are) then I either let them kill me or take them out if I can but it's no sweat either way.

For PVE run whatever you want but try to stack XP bonuses as these will give you field caches. I get more than enough experience for 1 cache every Challenge mode mission run.

Also I've found there's little value in stacking anything but stamina and focusing on armour beyond meeting the weapon talent/perk requirements. E.g. little to no point in going over the max firearms score of 4790 (or something) as armour and stamina scale better/seem much more useful in surviving a firefight.

So is 1.6 on the horizon?

No, it's not coming anytime soon. I'd say six weeks from now at the earliest and if it's coming with the next DLC it will be longer than that.

"In January 2017, we want to expand the ETF program with a second group of Elite Task Force agents. Just like last time, we will invite this group of players to take part in a three-day workshop - this time at Red Storm Studios in Morrisville, North Carolina - on January 11-13, 2017. The workshop will primarily focus on parts that was left out of the 1.4 rebalancing of the game: The Dark Zone and PvP balancing for Update 1.6."

Bought this in the Ubi sale and my word is this a beautiful game (PC). Contrary to popular belief it doesn't really look downgraded from that E3 demo. It also runs like a dream.

Surprised at how satisfying the gunplay feels, and the cover mechanic is delightfully simple. So many objects in these maps too, and therefore tons of flanking options during a firefight. I'm starting to encounter those bullet sponge enemies I read about though. Some seem to require several magazines to the head. Didn't they tone this down in a previous patch?

Less than 24hrs for Survival and the sweet PS4 PRO support

Been counting down the days, now hours!
Looking forward to see what the Pro patch offers.

We have no news on what the Pro support is right?

I haven't seen any info on it. Ubi titles have been abit hit and miss with the Pro patches so far, 2 that come to mind are Watch dogs 2 which is meant to have a really well implemented Pro patch with improved visuals yet Assassins Creed (Syndicate?) just offers a HUD upgrade. Guess we'll see tomorrow!

I had all the D3FNC items in my stash Skillup posted in his video, Barret's chest, specialised backpack and 4 piece D3FNC so decided to try it out with my brutal, responsive, destructive MP5 ST (the ST allows for a 18% HS DMG scope compared to the Navy) and my word everything was a cake walk. Lex, Russian Consulate and UG all on challenging were a breeze.
I've watched plenty of build videos on YouTube but whenever I attempt them I've never really been that impressed or I can never get them to shred the same as the videos but this time it pretty was much perfect and the npc's posed no issue at all, was great fun to play with for PVE. I'd dismissed the build before as I prefer to run through things quicker but having got it setup correctly this time it's definitely my solo challenging content go to build.

Does anyone know if the legacy SMG'S with the baked in crit chance is nullified with the D3FNC gearset like the weapon mods are? I know the dmg per pellet is less on the old smgs being a lower GS but maybe almost constant crits with pulse would be greater than no crit shots from a higher GS smg.

I wonder if they can't really give much details about the Pro version due to the MS 30 day exclusivity or whatever. Can't indicate that it may be a better looking version on the PS platform...

Welcome back, guys. I keep on playing this nonstop... lol

Edit: I just saw that I have 536h of gameplay. Holy shit.

http://divisiontracker.com

Take their hours played with a grain of salt - maybe it counts hours that the game is idle / when you're signed off?

I feel like their "total time played" has some major glitch going on. They claim I played more Division than I've played Destiny - and there's simply no way that is possible. I mean I enjoy The Division, but I played Destiny without break for almost 18 months. I find it hard to believe I put more time in 8 months on The Division than I did on Destiny (doubly so when I know I played a lot of Rocket League this year).

In other news - for those just coming back - Survival is one of the best video game experiences I've ever had. I basically only play solo (various reasons) and it's a real rush to work your way through an entire Survival session and extract loot at the end. When your hunter shows up you can feel the adrenaline pumping.

Just checked my time played in the game where you select the character to use, across both I've just hit 30 days. Can only imagine how long I've spent number crunching and sorting gear lol

For me that is reasonably accurate, I haven't played much else this year other than the likes of Uncharted and recent releases like Battlefield One and COD IW campaigns.

Yesterday a friend of mine who hasn't played in months (Falcon Lost cheese) came back on so we got him upto WT5 with a half decent build going off. His map still had plenty of side missions and encounters to complete so we went through them and by the end of it all we were completing the High Reward Targets together. The game really needs a New Game+ mode or something where all these can be reactivated so you can have a full map of content rather than named bosses, missions and HVT's to complete in the end game. Fortunately my alt was boosted to 30 so there's plenty to complete on that map which we plan to do next. And thanks to the potential loot from random trash mobs doing it all is relevant as we got so much usable gear from just doing the basics.

Is survival pvp at all?

Yes. You get a bonus multiplier of 1.2 on your score when playing PVP compared to 1.0 PVE.
Your score at the end of your session calculates how many Caches you get so there's more reward for running PVP but riskier as you could get taken out.

Oh, I'm not a fan of pvp at all. Troll central. That's why I left the game originally.

Okay I have this downloaded and ready to go, but for some reason I thought you could play it without the gank squads they designed pvp for.

That sucks.

Edit: i just realized I read your post wrong.

Ha. Tutorial just led me into the Dark Zone for the first time over the weekend and there were a few people just taking everyone out by the door. Tried just walking or sneaking by a few times, no luck. Came back 30 minutes later, same story, another hour later, same. DZ written off if that's the experience.

After having no named pieces drop since 1.5 I've now had two drop in 5 mins (skull gloves and bliss holster) from the two roaming bosses in the NW of the map. RNG gonna RNG :D. Just need Barret to bless me now.

Just saw these two videos on reddit, pretty funny:

Cleaner agent
Orphan seeker mine

lol they're great. I've seen the flame thrower glitch (flame turret attaches to your gun when thrown) but not that orphan seeker mine!

Some slight details on the pro patch from the recent Hamish stream:

Resolution boost: UI & in game
Increase in frame rate
HDR: No info

I'm guessing regarding the frame rate it just means more stable with less drops from 30fps.

Edit: oh. Yeah makes more sense. :(

And I hope they implement HDR... it'd make the game look even more incredible.

Survival is up for preload if anyone wants to download it in prep for tomorrow.
It's 2.8GB, I've just downloaded it (25mb a second so guess not many are on the store at this time of night!) but should've checked if the Pro feature was enabled, I'm guessing that is part of the patch rather than something they do server side.

How do I try the Survival content on PS4? Does it require a new character? It said the DLC had unlocked, and I can find 1.5 patch notes. But not sure how to access that.

So PSN said survival was available. The missions / challenges are showing, but the entrance in the terminal is "offline".

But there's a huge group of people waiting. Are we dumb? Is there something else we're waiting for? Patch? Maintenance period? Grace Chen Time?

Well the entrance is in the terminal, but it's offline atm.

I cannot answer any of your other questions.

Seems like after evey patch/maintenance I can't log in with my main until a few hours after it completes. Both ALTs login fine but my main throws HP deltas every time. Sigh

I read from an German website that the pro patch includes 4k UI but 1080p game rendering with upgraded shadows and reflections.

Hopefully HDR was included.

DoF looks better on Pro now. IQ looks cleaner as well. This has to super sampling, because I'm on 1080p and noticing the difference.

Apparently the game is rendering at locked 1080p. I guess it used to scale?

Picked up just the base game a couple weeks ago and I'm finally getting to it now. Only a few missions in and wow, I'm having a blast so far. Actually glad I ignored my friends advice on this so far.

Still debating on if I'll get the season pass.

you load in, they could have the pve area 60
And yet the minimal latency thing when your controller is usb connected is fine it seems. Isn't that an advantage as well.
I'm not arguing in favor of limiting it to 30 but since the base game is at 30, it seems to be Sony's stance on multiplayer games to keep it level across platforms.

Edit: it is possible i'm out of the loop

Didn't mean to make you feel I was attacking you, sorry about that, just kinda find Sonys arguments kinda weird and irksome.
