I seem to remember all of the events ending in like three chapters tops with this chase sequence being much shorter than it is now.

This was the first arc of One Piece I ever watched in Anime form, and found it to be pretty hilarious...and that's probably because it was Looney Tunes-esque with Foxy and co. serving as a Team Rocket-style villains.

But most of the "humor" in One Piece just annoys me otherwise, Oda really forces jokes.
