You know what show I would love to see on Toonami or maybe back on Adult Swim?

Detective Conan. Used to set my alarm to 3am to watch it on Adult Swim I liked it so much.
Ya'll are making me swoon with your Detective Conan love. Unfortunately, it's kind of a hard sell. It's a very adult story with a very (at times) childish veneer. The early episodes are very old now ('96 for those counting) and Funimation stopped localizing after episode 130. They've also made it pretty emphatically clear they're not going back to Case Closed any time soon.

All this being said, PLEASE PUT IT ON TOONAMI.

Anyone else in here up to episode 706 with me? =)

There should be a Detective Conan Kai.
Well if you just skipped the TV Original episodes you'd have about 266 less episodes to watch. Kind of hard to slim down an episode that's filled with important clues and suspects without making it redundant.

watching episode 5 of majestic prince, holy shit im dying, this show is hilarious, it needs to be on toonami.

The crazy thing is that they stopped dubbing episodes right before it actually starts to get good. So if you think it was good from what you saw you have no idea man.

More people die in one 13 episode run of Case Closed than have died in all of Bleach.
really? I actually really loved canon back in the day, but I was always frustrated that he never revealed himself to his gf

Well, a cut down version would make it easy to watch those non TV original eps without having to resort to a guide. Thus easier for Funi to dub, as well.

At this rate Jimmy will turn back to normal by aging regularly. Hehehe.
If you take into account that each episode or, more commonly, a grouping of one to three episodes takes less than a day, then it's only been less than two years :p. The part people have a hard time swallowing is how they get into so many murder situations.

No way, man. That's some DBZ time if I've ever seen it.

I'm with you man. Do a redubbing if you need it, but its definitely something we could have fun with. Even the main cast makes fun of all the murder cases they get into. It's a shame it'll never take off.

The problem is each episode is structured in a way that if you were to cut and divide it it would ruin the pacing of the story. A 30-minute one off episode will introduce the premise, the scene, suspects, police and will be sprinkled with clues. There's no real fat to trim and you'd only be ending up with a short, but useless story. It's not put together like a typical Shonen that stretches itself for time.

Yep =(. The problem is in Japan it's a family show that's accessible for any age group. Here (at least in the states) we generally don't have the hijinks of a bunch of grade schoolers interlocked with serial murderers.

People will see this:

And to them it will be a kids show. Even with the violence, police drama, decapitations, suicides, etc.

Someone eventually did the math on the Marvel Universe back in the early 2000's and figured that if you ignore all the forward time shifts something ridiculous like only seven years have passed since Captain America was woken up from the ice berg.

Luffy has to be one of the most incompetent protagonists ever, sometimes it's frustrating to watch.

*Water 7 spoilers*

And holy shit at the foremen being in CP9! This is getting good. Why didn't Iceberg just hold his breath to slow his heart rate when being interrogated? Such a simple solution.

EDIT 2:
I'm on episode 245 and this melodrama over Robin is getting annoying. BUT WE'RE FRIENDS!!!

I'm not saying cut down the canon episodes, just cut out the non-manga ones.

I started that episode this morning while getting ready for the day and did a spit take when I heard that line while brushing my teeth.

And people accuse us Americans of drawing things out forever.

Since manga is read by so many people in Japan, they function more like American Sunday paper comics than comic books (at least in terms of readership and publication length).

And even some American comic books have been longing on for decades. The only difference is that those are more likely to switch authors over the years.

Instead of nothing happening in American comics, all the things that do happen are simply robbed of all meaning due to their inevitable retconning.

I sensed Conan loving going on, and came right away.

It's easy enough to do that, anyway by just skipping over those episodes.

Although I would like to see a redone Conan someday that in addition to cutting out all the AO episodes also restored the manga versions of the Train Bombing case (which would eliminate a huge plot hole from the early anime episodes) and Akemi Miyano case.

No way, man. That's some DBZ time if I've ever seen it.

Someone over on a Conan forum had gone through the manga to come up with a timeline, and found about five years passing based on the minimum number of days required (and that's actually a couple of years out of date now). Best to just ignore the passing of time with Conan, except in the most general of terms.

I think if we go by in-universe they've said it's been about a few months, a year at most. So yea ignoring it is our best bet. :lol

You know, that is kind of interesting how manga is tied so innately to its author but comics can switch creative teams on a dime.

I wonder if it's something that comes about as a result of mangaka often being artists as well as writers, or it's just due to ownership rights or whatever.

It has more to do with ownership rights. There are comics that do have a single creative team through their run. It's not all DC and Marvel stuff.

episode 8 was fantastic, just nonstop mecha action and good strategizing, loved it, love space battles.

Glad to see your enjoying mjp, a lot of anime gaf bailed after a few episode because by comparison it looked a lot worse when compared to the springs other two mech series valvrave and Gargantia.

gargantia is pretty cool, but its def not the mecha anime you want to watch if your looking for some good mecha battles, how was valvrave?

i'm imagining how some manga series would have progressed if they had multiple writers.

Well the only time DC or Marvel ever take a team off a book is if sales suck or the writer is just done with what they wanted to do. More so the first, so I imagine we'd still have a lot of series that got cancelled early around.

Do you have this on hand? As redundant as it may or may not be, It would still be interesting to look at.

Valvrave is like code geass on steroids. Every episode ends on a crazy WTF twist. I liked it a lot better then mjp and can't wait for season 2 this fall

code geass is already on steroids so that show must be crazy.

Let me put it this way after the main character climbs into the giant mech and destroys all the bad guys in the first episode/first fight, he climbs down from the cock pit and
is shot to death by the other lead character
but that isn't the final twist of the episode.

holy fuck.
Well you just sold me on valvrave

There was a thread about it on the forums for a certain translation project specializing in Detective Conan, but the google doc that had the timeline all counted out doesn't seem to be up any more, as far as I can tell.

Man episodes 22 and 23 of Majestic Prince have been pure mecha porn in the most glorious fashion. This series really needs to get dubbed and put on toonami.

What would really be interesting is if Toonami got Legend of The Galactic Heroes, never going to happen, but that would be a lark.
