Well, as noted above, sequels typically take the crown in terms of anticipation levels. Anticipation levels for sequels always run high...in all forms of media.

Original work is of unknown quality...

Now, 2004 is a unique example in and of itself. This really is the "year of the big sequels". Basically, we are seeing sequels to many of the best games released this generation (heck, even prior to this generation).

I don't know where I'll find the time to fully enjoy them but here's my top 3:

1) Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
2) Gradius V
3) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

I've already pre-ordered the first 2, I'll see if anyone's doing a cool pre-order campaign for GTA before committing.
