AnimeGAF is pretty nice. I was afraid of them at first, but I went into the IRC channel and everyone was nice to me~

I've heard they're a nasty group so I just bug one of its members instead of ruining my reputation.

We arent mean or nasty. We are just kind of insane.
I dispatch trucks for a living.
I willingly work 84 hours a week solving headache inducing problems all night.
Thats way more insane than being anime fan.

i expected the animegaf thread to be an elitist circlejerking cesspool, but it's not so bad.
I liked it :| Though admittedly I haven't played it for more than an hour and got it for free with the system.

nsmbds isn't terrible, but it's low tier mario.

I've always wondered who propagates this myth, or if this is just a stigma against all gaf communities.

When i think of animu, the last thing I would describe the fanbase as is elitist.
Its pretty much a means to escape reality, like movies or vidya games.

Another embarrassing anime related thread. This is why it's not 'socially acceptable' to like anime.

Also, moe is the cancer killing anime
and the Japanese population
.

I don't think anyone in here is actually embarrassed.

So...this game's an endearing, and heartwarming story about a kid with a female pet that he affectionately calls his "sister" and has a totally healthy and platonic, normal owner-pet relationship with right? RIGHT!?

It's actually one of my favorite anime. Made me laugh extremely hard. Sort of glad to see it do well, but dunno how the actual quality of the game is.

Popular with Japanese otaku /= socially acceptable.

In a sense, you could look at these sales (or even some of the posts in this thread) and realize that some people on NeoGAF draw completely wrong impressions in regards to what's popular in Japan in regards to games or anything else if you didn't think this already.

I said it in the other thread I'll say it here too, I just don't understand the popularity of this series. :|

There's a segment of anime fans that love navel-gazing anime that make it seem "awesome" to be an otaku. And then you add the fans of underage shipping and incest as well.

While I don't doubt this, it's kinda shocking to think that fringe/otaku consumers are bigger in numbers than the casual, average-joe that also buys games.

I don't spend too much time in MC threads, but don't most popular games sell above around 150k first week? I think you're confusing the casual, average-joe that buys games and fringe consumers who buy Atlus games.

Trust me otakus in Japan are way bigger than the average casual gamer (who BTW totally moved to brainless smartphone social games).

Another huge public for games in Japan are pokemon children

Of course I don't think that, and honestly I lost the taste for anime in general past ~20. I loved stuff like Memories, Cowboy Bebop, Paranoia Agent, Monster, GitS, everything by Satoshi Kon and Ghibli etc. Couldn't and still can't stand anything fanservice-y, shonen, giant robot, slice of life, harem etc. When more shows started becoming like that, and fewer like the ones I liked, I stopped following it. Also Satoshi Kon died :( The ones that did try weren't as good as the old stuff (eg Ergo Proxy). I don't know if it has changed, but from everything I've seen it doesn't look like it. I'd sure love it if I'm wrong though.

sorry for the huge OT, guess I'll stop now.
