I love cutesy anime just as much as I love various other anime-genres. What I have a problem with is the Moe brand of cute: Blatant pandering with creepy/unhealthy romantic undertones (used as fetish-fuel as opposed to setting a dark tone.) Usually focusing on characters that are not relatable and/or offer nothing other than fit the mold of a forever-alone-otaku's idea of a perfect girl.
I guess if you just consider moe to equal cutesey-slice of life-comedy, then yeah. But it's nowhere near being "moe" in the sense I describe above. (Which would be just awful cause Furry-Moe -which is what it'd end up being- sounds terrifying.)

Japan is awesome for so many reasons... but anime is not one of them. I went through a phase years back and discovered that while there are a lot of great anime films out there (Satoshi Kon R.I.P.), 99% of the tv shows are unequivocal fucking dross.

I would say the Satoshi Kons/Miyazakis/Katsuhiro Otomos/etc. more than justify anime's existence and make up for the influx of terrible crap that the genre has. There's some amazing stuff there and I think sifting through the awful stuff to get to it is more than worth it.

Yes, I like Bleach, but that doesn't mean I'm some angsty teen with no friends who thinks Shadow the Hedgehog and Uchiha Sasuke are the coolest characters of their series.
