Thanks to the magic of webp, I can bring you this 8meg gif into a 512k file:

Nuh-uh, zenzen

By the way, why would they zoom so tight on her mouth in that scene, other than the fact that she has a weird mouth/teeth formation? I don't really have a problem with it, I just don't see the necessity of zooming it all the way on her mouth like that.

If they did it with Right, I'd bet the farm that they did it because he has weird lips.

Episode was kinda meh overall, but yes, they finally did something useful with the "change color" mechanic.

Oh shit we can embed them now?

WebPs and WebMs are different formats.

WebP is Google's format to replace images on the web. It also allows for animated images, and it's natively supported by (webkit-based) browser's <img> tags. It doesn't have sound and it has a worse compression than WebMs.

WebM is Google's format to replace VIDEOS on the web. It's CPU intensive and Google itself says that it's not good for <img> support because of that and other reasons.

More info on this FAQ section: https://developers.google.com/speed/webp/faq

How do you make WebPs and WebMs? Just make GIFs and Videos and convert them?

To make an animated WebP, you need to convert from an animated GIF, yes. You can download a plugin for Photoshop from the google page and save directly to static WebPs.

To make a WebM, you just convert from a regular video.

All the tools are available on that Google page I pasted. I use the Photohop plugin to save static WebPs, I use the gif2wepb.exe provided by google to created animated gifs and I use ffmpeg.exe to create webps, as opposed to the tools given by google, because I had it laying around here anyway for my video conversions.

Hey TokuGAF, I don't know why I didn't try finding this earlier. Of course there's a TokuGAF.

Well anyway, I partially owe it to GAF in the first place due seeing Garo gifs and becoming very interested in what the show was so I went and watched it. Loved it. Liked the first episode of the new series as well.

Then moved onto Kamen Rider. I've watched Kuuga, Blade, Kabuto, and W. I had issues with Kabuto's story, though I thought the fights and suit designs were cool. The other three I loved though. Trying to figure out where to go next. Been watching Gaim and I really like it, but I feel I should probably try some of the others. Fourze maybe, though I'm not a huge fan of the suits.

I haven't really watched any Sentai, though I'm going to start watching Shinkenger soon as I heard good things about that one. Also on deck are Boukenger, Gekiranger, Gokaiger, Go-Busters, and Kyoryuger. So I've got a lot to go through there.

Quick question out of curiosity, what kind of media player do you guys use? I've used VLC for a long time, but it's been doing weird skipping lately and I've been wondering if I should try another.

Hi there! Took me a while to find this community on GAF too.

Seems like you've tried various serious/dark Kamen Rider shows; but Fourze is of the other kind of Rider show, the comedic and light-hearted one. I loved it, but it's worth noting that it's not like what you've been seeing so far. But if you liked Fourze, then you are probably also going to like most Sentai shows and Kamen Rider Den-O.

I think Shinkenger is a good intro to Sentai, since it's more down-to-Earth than other series (the characters are actually normal people; instead of aliens, time travelers, dead people, or inter-dimensional cars as is common in other series). And yeah, Sentai has a ton of quality seasons (more than Rider IMO), so you've got a lot.

I use Media Player Classic.

So I was watching a Xenosaga playthrough and there's a special quest that makes you acquire a series of special items that make that one character only have one special attack: Summon a "giant robot" that does 9999 damage to all enemies, the Erde Kaiser.

Mightgaine-5.jpg

The FMV for when you summon it is a Mecha Gattai, so I was really bored and I ripped it into WebM:

I think part of it for me may be that I only recently started looking over in the Off-Topic section.

Hmm, thinking on it now that is true I suppose. I guess W might be considered some where in between though that show did have plenty of goofy moments. I'll give it a shot nonetheless. I can handle goofiness if there's a good overall story behind it. Thank you.

Wait, the leads have been dead people and cars? I knew we've had Cars as Zord/Robots (sorry, always fall back on Power Rangers lingo with this sort of thing at times), but as the team? But yeah, it's been fairly straightforward thus 2 episodes in and I'm liking what I've watched. Well, I suppose part of that could be that they've also had a bit more time and chances since Kamen Rider did have that period with no new series.

Thank you both for the recommendation and link.

I was going to ask about subs, but feel it may be a better idea not to. Don't want to unintentionally start a flame war or something as I also alternate between groups at times.

Well, got to 36 on Fourze. The Aries two parter was probably my favorite so far. "This Apple will be shipping tomorrow." And the thing with his script was a really cool idea for a villain. And then
Meteo
gets some major development.

What I like best about this is probably the characters, which is good because the best Sentai drew me in with the characters. Keeping a "smaller" cast (compared to Gaim at least) is allowing me to get to know them all better and really enjoy them, and thats ok. My best example of this is Gekiranger where they only had 3 rangers for the majority of the show, and then the other 2 felt superflous.

And the show's first few episodes even had the format of some of the best Sentais... You introduce one or two characters an episode. It takes a while to get going, but once it does you know it's going to be better. See Gekiranger, Abaranger, Jetman, and Kyoryuger for some more proof.

The graduation episode felt like a copout. You have this whole episode about people moving on with their lives, and 2 members of the Kamen Rider Club are going to graduate, then its like "Nah, we're gonna stay." You can't do a story like that if you're gonna just pull something like that.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Super Megaforce 08

Orion is already way more interesting than the rest of the Rangers. He actually has a backstory and a character to him. Why can't the writers do the same with the main 5?
Was his planet referenced in any previous seasons by the way?

I am curious how the Silver Ranger Key and Morpher got on his planet though. We'll put that in the same pile as "Where did the Ranger Keys in general come from?"
The makeover part went too long though
No Forever Silver morph... (I guess since that had Robo Knight, it wouldn't work)
EDIT: Except they could have used this opportunity to add the Titanium Ranger. But that would require effort and care.

Lazy Q-Rex explanation is lazy. Just like all their other Zords and power-ups. Damn it writers...

So... have we entered hiatus mode?

It was a crappy montage that stretched forever. Gosei seems to have a lot of shit just laying around he doesn't tell the rangers about.

Episode was amazing until Orion pulled the rest of his keys out of nowhere then Gosei had them on his wall smh. But yeah it's hiatus time.

Where did the silver ranger get that sandwich?

Pretty sure it was one of Jake's that he never got to eat. Ship off the unused ranger food to an off-world mining planet.

I enjoyed the backstory of Orion, but definitely could have used a little more about the powers and keys. Oh well. Was also interesting to see the KingRanger/Zeo Gold cut out, but it made sense in context.

Time for the long Hiatus...

no, his planet wasn't referenced, from what i recall, before in the series. Yay for new planets... to be destroyed and overrun by an Armada.... crap.

Reference to Zordon doing the same thing? Naw, just lazy writing unfortunately...

I sampled Den-O seeing if it looked good, and the first thing I saw in the random episode I put on is a train with all sorts of guns attacking monster that could pass for ToQger had I shut the episode off in the first minute. Do I sense a crossover eventually?

Looks like Garo: Makai no Hana is airing now, first episode was pretty good. Odd though seeing some one with the Saejima family name smile. Gonna have to get used to that.

This week's Gaim is really...something.

It was um... It was goofy as heck, that's for sure.

I was getting the impression it would be something like this going from the preview. Does anything particularly meaningful happen like Sagara getting questioned?

So it's come out that the only reason Baron's getting an upgrade form is because he's popular, and they never actually planned on giving him one from the start.

http://www.toei.co.jp/tv/gaimu/story/1203576_2163.html

That's kind of weird actually though I suppose not surprising. Was he just supposed to sort of fade to the background or something and not be as prominent? Perhaps because he simply couldn't catch up to the others?

Because that could have been kind of fitting given all that talk about the powerful and the weak.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Weird, most people I see seem to dislike Baron...

Well, Kaito. Baron's got cool suits, especially Mango, but Kaito's pretty much a huge loser at this point. But I'm pretty sure that's the point though, a character who wants to be strong and acts tough but actually can't back up his words.

Not really surprising. We only got as much Date as we did in OOO because he was popular and his role as interim Birth user then expanded, right?

I think Kaito's a pretty well executed "smug shitwheel" character. I don't "like" him as such, but he's cool.

Silver Lining 1 & 2

It wasn't as bad as it could've been but there was room for it to be better. I'm kind of surprised that Edenoi, Miranoi or KO-35 just didn't get pulled out of Orion's ass for the sake thereof.

The Q-Rex shit was just laziness. They could've come up with some better names to reference each of those forms. If Orion's backstory or some decent explanation from Gosei as to how the morpher even made it there then maybe it could've. This was an episode that could've used a feature by Tommy, Eric or Trent to make more sense of this.

And Orion's actor would've made a better Red. But Troybot would be a better Red if he was more relaxed as he is in interviews I've seen.

Time for a break.

There's a confrontation at the beginning of the episode, and near the end there's a lead in to the serious shit that's about to go down in ep 26.

Well that's good. I saw the summaries for the next two episodes so I may be able to guess what the one at the end is.

I'm becoming convinced we may actually see that sequence from the first episode come to pass somehow with perhaps all the major Riders getting the ability to control Inves.

Finished Fourze with the last 4 episodes this morning. First Rider series I've finished fully besides Decade, and this one was much better. Also after Captain America 2 last night and those episodes of Fourze today, I may just be getting VERY spoiled as far as superheroes go ;)

First they brought back Ran and had the two parter with the principal maybe becoming a good guy. The end had Ran protecting her friend again. I kind of wish they would've addressed that at the end. Even if after the battle he just smiled and thanked her for that one last time. That was the main theme of their first arc, so it would've been a great call back.

Really great (for the most part.) I really liked how they kept it character based rather than throwing in a Space Flea from Nowhere (which you know they could've easily done with the hole.) It felt like Megaranger a lot at the end, actually. The villain didn't seem as "threatening" as some, for example Kai in Zyuranger (though he was a real threat) but it was all about the characters being able to get through to him and that scene where they have the graduation ceremony was amazing. I didn't expect to cry during the final battle of a toku show, but this did it, and that emotional response sealed how much I loved this show.

Killing off Kengo was interesting, and that got me, too. Where he finally breaks down at the museum and Gentaro hugs him was a really great moment. Then the death and his letter were more really emotional moments. Then they copped out of THAT at the last moment, too. Oops.

Speaking of "oops." WTF at Miu rejecting Shun's proposal because Wizard is so much cooler. I know it's a joke, but it's a joke that undoes all her character development. This is something a stuck up mean girl would do, and she hasn't been that since the episode count was in the single digits.

So, next up is W. Then I'm not sure which. Is OOO any good. Wizard is supposedly average, so maybe I'll save that for after I've finished all the top tier Rider series. I may also watch Den-O after.

Agito and Blade are what I would suggest. And the thing about Wizard, is that it has potential, but they squander it really early on. If you do plan on watching it anyway, watch it purely for fun and don't take it too seriously.

W is awesome!
And give Kiva a chance, it's not that popular with many fans but I thought it was very interesting with the story taking place in two time frames. It has great characters, great villains and great designs.

Haha, Gaim 25 was nuts. Managed to balance out the goofy non-sequitur of Oren and Jonouchi's story with pushing things forward by way of the talk between Sagara and Warring-tachi though and was a fun ep.
