I can't believe you guys are dumb enough to play the lottery. Although my Aunt and Uncle did move to Canada with nothing back in the 50s and won the lottery in the 70s which allowed them to buy a house, a car and a cottage in Muskoka.
I still refuse to play though.

I won 160 on one ticket once, I think that covers all the other times I've played

Right, we're dumb enough to support all of the community development projects that OLG supports by virtue of not winning the lottery.

come in my shame circle
Was drunk as hell last night as well.

Just waking up now. Leafs win, this town is going to be en fuego hopefully in 7 more games.

I like that old Steven Wright joke about the odds of them accidentally sending you a lottery cheque in the mail being higher than actually winning the lottery. Just sit back and wait for it to show up.

Statistically impossible to win, but the day your office pool hits it big and you were the only one that didn't buy in? That's the function of regret.

I've often wondered if there are news stories/documentaries of that, following a group of lottery pool winners, both the ones who bought in, and the ones who didn't.

I don't think you read my post correctly.
Didn't you notice the part about my uncle winning the lottery? I was making a joke about no one winning and then giving an example of a family member that won. Maybe I should be less subtle next time... internet and all.

If your coworkers went after hours to the casino and put a pool of money in a slot machine, would you join them?

If you're looking exclusively Console side:
Drinkbox - The previously mentioned Guacamelee, Tales From Space: Mutant Blob series
Metanet Software - N+
Capybara Games - Sword and Sorcery, Critter Crunch, their next game should be Super Time Force
Queasy Games - Everyday Shooter

Once you start reaching out to PC/mobile, then it just becomes too long to list.

Queasy also made Sound Shapes (which we helped a bit on). We also made Might & Magic Clash of Heroes.

Other notables are:

Droqen, maker of the IGF nominated Starseed Pilgrim
Asteroid Base, makers of the IGF nominated LOVERS IN A DANGEROUS SPACETIME
Jim Munroe, creator & contributor on Molleindustria's Unmanned
Get Set Games, makers of Mega Jump & Mega Run
And so so so many more...

Once you step out of the midsize teams (likes of Capybara -IIRC, around 40+ or Drinkbox, IIRC around 10+)
We're actually 24 people. 40 is terrifyingly big :)

Really? I was always under the impression that you guys were bigger than that.

No, but I think that arguments holds just as well. If your company decided to do a casino trip and everyone went but you, and that's how everyone got rich on some giant bet, you'd feel pretty shitty too.

...which means I'm indifferent about getting a casino on Toronto. So once the report for it is out tomorrow, what happens?

Interesting. We actually have hired two people in the last few months, so we're only recently this big. We do work on a lot of projects at once with smaller teams inside Capy, so perhaps we give the impression of being larger(?).

I don't think that's reason enough to join the office pool. If it was company-wide, and everybody was doing it, then I'd toss in the money like I was paying union dues. If it's just a few people placing bets then I won't feel shitty if they hit the jackpot.

To make the analogy in starker terms: would you join if a couple of your coworkers gather around to buy some penny/Apple/RIM stock?

I can understand gambling casinos as a form of entertainment but the lottery is purely an investment. A very lousy investment.

Oh it definitely isn't, and lotteries are really really lousy investment if you treat it as such, but for most people, it'd be merely spending a few bucks to buy a hours of "dreaming what ifs". You probably make more in the long run by putting that same money in a piggy bank in your room, but you know there's zero chance that jar of money turns into a jackpot; whereas you're buying into a fantasy of winning it big, and that dream itself is good enough for most people to spend a buck or two.

Hey guys, I made my own thread for this and someone suggested I put it here. I am in desperate need of some survey responses for an assignment that is pretty much due this week. If some of you could fill this out, I would be overly greatly appreciated

here is the link to the survey that shouldnt take more than 3 minutes

thanks in advance
Done... wait, what is this assignment for? Are you Target? :p

Done, but those were some odd questions.

No love for Justin Trudeau from Toronto-GAF?

It's never affected me who is running for the Liberals because Olivia Chow is always running in my riding. So even though I don't always want to vote NDP, I end up doing it because I want Olivia Chow to win that riding.
It's a choice that is tough to make sometimes when you want the representative to win but not the party. It seems different in the USA, where people vote for the president and then vote separately for the senate 2 years later.
(I know Canada has a senate but it doesn't seem to serve the same purpose at all)

Casino meeting at city hall draws 200 speakers

yeah, that casino... not so popular.

I did like this quote, 'cause it's true:

By noon, about 50 people had made their presentations with most speaking against the casino.

One was Dori Segal, whose company First Capital Realty is working on developments in the Liberty Village area.

"A casino at Exhibition Place will be a disaster," said Segal. "A mistake we will have to live with for generations to come. Don't give away our waterfront. Once it's gone, it's gone forever."

The new porch seating already looks miles better than what we had with the Windows Restaurant at Rogers Centre (at least, based on seeing it on TV).

I also like the giant ads for Budweiser (lol) and Rogers. I think it adds more character to the stadium.

Whoa, there's more people than usual streaming through the halls of the ACC and I wonder what this game is going to be like and HOLY SHIT REIMER!

I did like this quote, 'cause it's true:

We should definitely give away our waterfront to condo developers though. 'Cuz those are total eye candy and have no negative repercussions for the city.

(Personally I'd rather have a mixed entertainment and convention complex here - including a casino - than lose the revenue to other major cities, but I'm not going to weep if it doesn't come to pass this time around).

So my fellow Torontonians, what are some romantic things to do around town? My anniversary is coming up soon and I'm wracking my brain trying to think of something new to do around town for the event. I was going to take my girlfriend to see the lyrid meteor shower, but looks like it's going to be way to cold for that this year. Any suggestions?
