Whoa, there's more people than usual streaming through the halls of the ACC and I wonder what this game is going to be like and HOLY SHIT REIMER!
We should definitely give away our waterfront to condo developers though. 'Cuz those are total eye candy and have no negative repercussions for the city.
(Personally I'd rather have a mixed entertainment and convention complex here - including a casino - than lose the revenue to other major cities, but I'm not going to weep if it doesn't come to pass this time around).
I just want them to do something with the waterfront before I'm too old to appreciate it.
Anyone know any good deals for Toronto to New York for around June 8th? Looking for a quick getaway over a weekend. I have a place to stay already.
I took an overnight megabus for 5 bucks before... that wastes a bunch of time though
Yeah, I think I would rather fly for a good deal since I'm not spending much time there.
Distillery -> coffee at Balzac's, walk around, dinner at one of the places there, walk around, chocolate at soma, walk around, show at soul pepper?
So much hyperbole and bullshit going on with this executive meeting.
Thanks, we've been to the distillery quite a few times so I was thinking of something different. Soul Pepper actually sounds awesome, but unfortunately no shows on the 21st.
Walked right into it.
Walked right into it.
Walked right into it.
Go to the Beaches, coffee at one of the local joints, meal at one of the local joints (I go to Whitlock's myself, but there are a ton there), bookstore, french bakery, movie at Beaches cinema? Fit walking along boardwalk in there somewhere?
Executive committee votes 9-4 in favour of the casino.
FOR: Mayor Ford, Thompson, Shiner, Palacio, Holyday, Kelly, Di Giorgio, Crisanti, Crawford.
AGAINST: Robinson, Milcyzn, Minnan-Wong, Ainslie
Issue will now come before City Council for the final vote.
That Thursday.
I think the median Toronto family income floats around 68k a year, so I think you'd be just fine with 50k as an individual.

Exec ctte votes to ask Casino to give preference in hiring to ex gambling addicts: the 13th step!

Many doubt my tweet that exec comm asked that Casinos give hiring preference for ex gambling addicts.I was not joking Cllr Palacio's motion
That Thursday.
Should put a casino at the top of the CN Tower
Team #fuckcyclists!Ah, it's the season for asshole bicycle riders to come out of hibernation. I had one ride past my dog and I from behind on a really narrow sidewalk of Windermere under the QEW. He could have easily hit either of us, but I worry more for the dog. He zoomed in and out of a few other people up ahead of me as well, including maneuvering around a stroller.
I regret not reacting quickly enough to make him face plant into the pavement. Yes, this stuff gets my blood boiling.
Executive community wants to hire ex-gambling addicts to work at the casino. Nothing to go wrong with this.
That's so dumb I hardly believe it's true.
I'm a cyclist :"(
Hmmm...
Team #Kave_man!
I asked him if he was kidding, or not, and he came back saying it was a real motion. So I take him at his word.
10 - Motion to Amend Item (Additional) moved by Councillor Cesar Palacio (Carried)
That a new condition be added as follows:
1. The casino operator will commit to a Toronto residents-first local hiring policy and agree to incorporate gender equity and other diversity principles into its human resources practices, including rehabilitated gamblers that can be integrated in gainful employment with the complex, excluding the casino portion.
He was twisting Palacio's words. From the Clerk's office, here is the text of the motion verbatim:
Emphasis added. Also of note, Denzil Minnan-Wong was the only Exec Ctte member who voted against that motion.
PS, if you're looking for Council and Committee minutes, they're all listed here.
Councillors also added conditions that revenues that the city receives from said complex would be put toward transit expansion, and others.
FINALLY!
I don't blame all cyclist. I think it's a great way to commute. But the 10% (which feels more like 40% sometimes) of the cyclist that ride on sidewalks, run lights, and have no respect for anyone else really drive me crazy. It's especially dangerous for me when I'm walking a dog and someone comes up from behind going 30kph, and basically brushes shoulders with me. Couldn't even be bothered to have a bell on his bike.
I yelled at a cyclist who was riding on the sidewalk on bloor the other day. She barked back at me like I was the wrong one... this city sometimes.
Super final battle episode 4 part Tri 2nd blood 1st strike: revelaitonsI'll run you over with my bicycle.

And where is the damn meet up thread?
And charge your damn phone next time!
That's why we lost tonight?Actually I just cut my hair.
No more fro.
That's why we lost tonight?
Pfft down 4-0 when I stopped. Ain't no belief gonna come back from that.I cut it on Saturday. And we stretched boxes.
The fault is in the fact you didn't beleaf hard enough.
I've done that. And then it occurs to me, there is no situation in which yelling at someone because they're being a jackass will end with them saying "sorry, thanks for correcting my jackassery, I'll stop now."
And so I've given up. I am opting to leave such things to karma.
