TORONTO, Sept. 10, 2014 /CNW/ - Earlier today Mayor Rob Ford attended Humber River Hospital's Church Street Emergency Department, complaining of abdominal pains that have persisted for at least three months and have become worse in the last 24 hours. Examination and investigation has resulted in a working diagnosis of a tumor.

The Mayor has been admitted to allow for further investigation to obtain a definitive diagnosis.

Just broke a few minutes ago. Hope he has a quick and speedy recovery.

could it be that the tumor made him act crazy?

haha it's not that type of tumor, but even if it were, it was the drugs making him crazy. It's not like there's really any dispute any more that the guy is a persistent alcoholic and drug addict so I'm not sure why there needs to be any other reason :p

I mean it's a disease so I feel sympathy for him, but that is the way it makes one act when you are that far gone ;)

No. It says abdominal pains so I don't think it was a brain tumour.

Also brain tumours don't make you smoke crack etc.

I had abdominal pains and an upset stomach, got so bad had to go to an emergency room. Had a benign brain tumor.

It coincides with all his symptoms.
Sporadic drug use, unusual behavior, abdominal pain, the pregnancy scare, abdominal tumor! Someone tell him his parents don't love him and prep for surgery.

On the real though, I would think that a tumor that might be benign wouldn't even be the worst thing that could have happened considering his past.

Glad I said 'I don't think' then! But that sounds weird. I guess being near the spine can do a lot of things.

I came in thinking this was a brain tumor which would explain how he is batshit crazy. Abdominal tumors shouldn't do that though. Anyways hope he has a speedy and good recovery.

Not defending Ford here, but your gut can affect your mood quite greatly.

The second brain informs our state of mind in other more obscure ways, as well. "A big part of our emotions are probably influenced by the nerves in our gut," Mayer says. Butterflies in the stomach—signaling in the gut as part of our physiological stress response, Gershon says—is but one example. Although gastrointestinal (GI) turmoil can sour one's moods, everyday emotional well-being may rely on messages from the brain below to the brain above. For example, electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve—a useful treatment for depression—may mimic these signals, Gershon says.

Given the two brains' commonalities, other depression treatments that target the mind can unintentionally impact the gut. The enteric nervous system uses more than 30 neurotransmitters, just like the brain, and in fact 95 percent of the body's serotonin is found in the bowels. Because antidepressant medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) increase serotonin levels, it's little wonder that meds meant to cause chemical changes in the mind often provoke GI issues as a side effect. Irritable bowel syndrome—which afflicts more than two million Americans—also arises in part from too much serotonin in our entrails, and could perhaps be regarded as a "mental illness" of the second brain.

I'm kinda stunned that people are wishing for a racist, homophobic, wife beating-crack smoking Tory joke of a mayor to get better

Eh, it's better to have him removed from society through a fair process rather than hope he dies.

Had it been in the brain I think things would make more sense.

Well I'm not actively hoping for his death, I just find the concern very, very odd.

It's not like he's a mass murderer. He has a nearly endless supply of faults but none warrant wishing the man to die.

So even if it's a completely real tumour that no one should wish on anyone (seriously), is it a safe bet that there's a group of people out there who are going to say all of his nutty behaviour was because of the tumour and when (if) he gets nice and healthy he is a suitable mayor again?

Hopefully it is benign and treatable

It could be malignant and treatable, too. It's all a question of where, what type etc.

Crazy news. I have never disliked a politician as much as Ford, but I wish him all the best and hope this turns out to be something that can be treated.

Having empathy for individuals and being forgiving is the only virtues that matter here.

Even the worst pedophile murderer known to man I would not wish undue pain on. I would wish only they would learn the depths of their mistakes and do their best to atone for it while they serve their sentence.

If you think bloodlust is going to solve either his problems or yours, or you believe that'll make you feel better, that's fine. But please we have enough hateful shit in this world. So keep that burning flame within you, don't spread it.

Canada does not have as flexible of a removement policy for high ranking government officials that the U.S. does. But from what I hear hes doing a good job and they want him to stay.

Hopefully he recovers and finishes up.
