How many of XSEED's games have dual audio in the first place? Can only remember Fragile Dreams and Akiba's Trip right now.

As a rule, you should never expect original audio from a Falcom game. Ever. Let's hope this page at least has more sunshine than the last.

I have both also and as mentioned patches helped improve the Vita, plus the upside is being able to turn it off when you want thanks to the suspend feature.

Its an issue I always have with the PS3. So only can play on the PS3 when I know I have large chunks of time. D:

The cross-save is a great feature though and the main reason as to why I have both vers.

Not that it would be indicative of the Western release but do the Japanese versions have an option to turn off the voices?

Why should i support something that i dont like? If i would buy it i would send them a message that they could go away with it not having japanese dub.
You shouldn't buy it then. You just really forfeit any moral ground to complain if the games stop coming out here though.

It doesn't matter if you feel that they're "just getting away with it" or not, they have made it very well known that when it comes to Falcom games, they cannot get the Japanese audio. If everyone had your opinion, then it would be a good way to tell them to fuck right off with releasing anything. Don't like that they can't get the original audio? Fine, but do not ever expect them to change how they do things when it's just not possible for them to do said thing.

Even if they "could" get the original language in the future, it would require more effort and more money, more money that would not be there because some have the opinion that "dub only = shit".

It's pretty incredible that the only thing you care about in a game like this is the language of the voice acting. Not the story, the characters, the battle system, the soundtrack, etc. The message you're sending isn't that we want Japanese dubs, but rather that we want audio books and not video games.

Onechanbara is going to have it, and a lot of their other games like the Corpse Party and Senran Kagura, etc. series only have Japanese voices.

Dont think so? I dont even remember what the options were, but if its the usual standard SE / VO / BGM type, you can always just put the Voice volume to zero lol.

Ah yes forgot about them, blind zone for me. Going to start my Vita and check if the voices can be muted.

Yeah this is what I meant. Not that it really matters for me because I'm getting both either way.

Can't remember many with dual audios but all of the games I've played from XSEED have had japanese voices.

I wasn't familiar with Falcom games before and first time I saw this game was in NicoNico stream that got me interested in the game as it looked awesome. Guess I should have known better not to expect.. cause in 2015 it still seems like dual audio is so hard to get, I don't honestly know what to blame. XSEED for not trying/paying enough or something else.
All I know is that I would pay double the price of the game just to get the original voices, if DLC is possible or something.

Honestly, I have skipped games before because of the lack of JP Audio so I won't blame anyone for doing so.

But this is fucking Kiseki, so I'm making an exception.

VO work in Falcom games is generally handled by Chara-Ani now. Blame them, if anyone, for being unwilling to let other companies use their voice actor's work.

Since this is XSEED were talking about, if they say there's only a dub I'll assume that they actively tried to get dual audio but didn't find it feasible.

This isn't like an Atlus USA localization were dual audio is almost always out of the question.

Yeah some companies can be pretty pig headed in regards to stuff like that, even more so when it comes to music too. :/

Since XSEED most def knows its community / consumers well doubt they would be leaving out the JP voice track for shits n giggles.

I'm actually just here to read about ToCS and to find updates on TiTS SC, but I did want to log in to say one thing.

There is nothing more annoying, in my opinion, than idiots who say they can't enjoy a game because voices are in English, and that they won't buy the game as a result. If that's the case, then you aren't a fan of the game or the series. You're just a weeb. Stop posting here and infecting other peoples' minds with your completely idiotic nonsense. Some of us actually enjoy the games and want to see the series succeed, and we don't want to see people like YOU trying to turn people off from buying them over something as irrelevant as this.

And Frankly, I don't care if I get warned or banned or whatever for this post.

Then turn off the voices, I do it all the time in JP only voice games. From what I understand there isn't even that much voice work in this game anyway.

There's actually quite a bit. It's just not as extensive as the Evolution remakes.

I'm still confused by this entire franchise. But if this is coming out on Vita then I'm definitely getting it.

It's actually simpler than it sounds.

There is a really long running series called 'Legend of Heroes'. The 'Trails' series covers every game after Legend of Heroes 6 except for Nayuta, which is a spinoff.

Legend of Heroes 6 are the 'Trails in the Sky' games. That's a duology and a third game which is an epilogue.

Legend of Heroes 7 are 'Trails to Azure' and 'Trails to Zero', and take place in the same world as Trails in the Sky but in a different area.

Legend of Heroes 8 is Trails of Cold Steel I and II. It takes place in yet another area that is also in the same world as Trails in the Sky.

Since all of these games take place in the same world, they all have a meta-plot that connects them. Some characters from earlier games appear in later games.

Coulda sworn I heard there wasn't much voice work... Must've been for something else then and I'm getting the two confused.

Original Trails and PSP Zero and So don't have much VAinh in them. Sen has quite a bit but not to the extent of the Evolution remakes. It's probably unlikely we'll get dual audio for that reason. Licensing it and doing a dub is going to add a pretty solid amount on the costs

It's not just that. Tom said that they'd also have to negotiate with Pyramid, which did the Vita work for Zero and Ao, on top of Chara-Ani who did voices.

Jesus can just imagine how fun that would be...

Nah, I'm referring to the reason why they're never doing Zero and Ao Evo. Sorry, badly phrased it.
Really hope Falcom just does some more straightforward PS4 ports themselves. Which almost seems like a downgrade, but it would be way less of a pain to bring over. And may get better resources for a PC version.

EDIT: Though if Chara-Ani has a bad reputation for licenses that are good for localization then it's probably a lost cause. And out of Falcom's hands entirely.

If I can't even turn it off it's pretty much a dealbreaker for me.

I feel bad for dub snobs. If Japanese voice acting is so essential to you then you should probably bother learning the language and you won't have to wait for the games anyway.

Seriously, skipping a quality a rpg like this because you prefer voices you can't even understand is utterly inconceivable to me (and I actually do know a tiny bit of Japanese)

The cross-save is a great feature though and the main reason as to why I have both vers.

I own both versions and play both, thanks to the cross save feature, but I prefer the vita version and play it 90% of the time because it is portable and I like the touchscreen map feature: it is really convenient in dungeons. PS3 version looks a bit sharper, but that is the only difference I really notice. After the last patch the Vita loads are pretty fast.

Thanks guys. Vita it is, need that portability and suspend.

I guess you didn't read my previous post where I said I was still buying the game, but would be undubbing it so I can played it my preferred way. I don't want to play Dragon Age or Mass Effect with Japanese voices, and I don't want to play JRPGs with English voices.

Well, then at least you're more reasonable than other people in this thread.

What if you can understand the voices but from what I've heard Sen has even college level japanese it's not any day soon you'll be reading that.. Personally I import lots of games just to learn more but this is one of those games I wouldn't want to use for learning purposes.
Also there's nothing wrong in wanting the game with its original language voices, even if you can't understand it.

I agree, there is nothing wrong about wanting original voices for games. But venting on a forum on the web is obviously not going to help the case either. I can understand the disappointment, but you can perhaps take this as a carrot to start learning the language for real?

I know and I apologize for it, but given how hyped I was for this the disappointment is huge. Learning all kanji is hard and even with this as a carrot it's going to take long before I could fully read all the text in the game, but given that this is probably not going to be last one of these cases it's the best option for future.

There's a difference between wanting it in the original voices and boycotting it because it's not. I'm just happy that these are coming at all because I was too lazy to get my Japanese to a level capable of playing them on import.

There was never any reason to expect it to have Japanese voices in the first place so I don't really get where this oh so crushing disappointment even comes from.
This shit is getting really damn old.
I'm out, you people actually manage to kill any joy created by this announcement, fucking hell.

Seeing as how they used english voice work, regardless of how lil it was, with the first game I'm fine with them continuing being dub-only cause thats being consistent. If there happens to be any recurring characters they'll have the same voices (right??) and thats good. Now if for some reason they'd drop dubs completely in a future game in the series and only do subs that'd suck.

But anyways what I really wanted ta know is if theres some meaning behind the title "Trails of Cold Steel"? If its a spoiler or something that can be understood from playing the game then just say so. On its own though I dun really get it!

I wouldn't call it boycotting, I'm not telling other people not to buy it cause I know it's a great game. I'm still having hopes that in the future we'll see version that has japanese audio so that's when they'll have my money too.

There's always a reason to expect original audio and don't worry, it's getting old for both sides.
In PS2-era it was "disc limitations" now it's that damned Chara-Ani, dual audio, dual audio never changes.

You can indeed mute the voices only in the OPTION menu for the game.
Phew.
Does it work for battle grunts too? Probably not.

No, the "learn japanese" argument is extremely silly and it's been discussed to death. No jap audio? That sucks but don't force me to hear the english dub or I won't enjoy the game. In this case I can turn it off so it's all good.

This is kind of how I feel. I thought Kiseki fans would be overjoyed by the discovery that this series has not only not been abandoned in the west, but in fact has two games out this year after 4 long years since FC.

There's mechs in the game, think "Cold Steel" fits pretty well in that regard lol.

You expected this series to not have massive, unreasonable weeb fans?

It seems pretty obvious they couldn't get the rights, but that doesn't satisfy some people. It's their loss, and if we don't get more games, I sure hope we don't see them whining about it.

They provided the reason in the blog.

Longtime fans of the series know the game as Sen no Kiseki, which roughly means something like, “The paths/trails of a flash/flicker.” It’s typically meant to represent that glint you see on a blade being drawn as it catches the light. It’s clearly not a very easy word to render in English and still make sense with the current “Trails” moniker, so we dismissed the more literal “Trails of a Flash” and other similar titles rather quickly.

I suggested Trails of Cold Steel for several reasons:

• The story is based around Thors Military Academy, a place in Erebonia where many young political upstarts balance school life and war tactics as part of their daily curriculum. Conflict and weapons are something of a theme in Cold Steel, and I wanted words which were specifically reminiscent of steel blades.

• The term “Sen” is a fairly serious word—"Steel" alone wouldn’t have set the right tone, but “Cold Steel” together helps reflect the strain of Erebonia’s intensely classist, military powerhouse society.

• Being a big fan of the Trails series myself, I’ve bought every single soundtrack related to the series. Even before we had the rights to Cold Steel, I’d bought the soundtrack. Hell, I bought it day one! And the main battle theme (which is a killer track, I might add) is called “The Glint of Cold Steel.” The second I saw it, I thought, “Well, that has quite a nice ring to it!”

• When Ken and I were in Falcom’s office and proposed the English title, they immediately smiled and said, “Actually, we once considered using the word ‘Steel’ in the title ourselves, so that’s perfect. We like it.”

So, there you have it. As of now, the official English name of Sen no Kiseki, completely endorsed by the original developers themselves, is Trails of Cold Steel.
