Twitch App announced for XBox 360; Coming Today

No. Just go look at the top 300 right now, you can watch any game you want to. The current #300 stream has only 31 viewers and is playing a JRPG I've never seen before. You will be able to watch basically ANY game you want to.

I think the problem is that you'd have to be on at this specific time to see that stream. If it leaves out of the top 300, you can't see it, or at least that's my current understanding of how the app works.

No. Just go look at the top 300 right now, you can watch any game you want to. The current #300 stream has only 31 viewers and is playing a JRPG I've never seen before, the #299 stream is currently playing Age of Empires 2 with 33 viewers. You will be able to watch basically ANY game you want to.

Apparently most people here don't realize the massive drop off of viewership after the very top streams.

It is currently early in the morning in America. Tons of the bigger streams come on later in the day. Most of the smaller streams will be booted off the top 300 during prime time.

FYI, I just updated the Twitch iOS app today and the update notes include removing Search and only watch Top 300 channels. Seems to be a thing they're doing.

Oh, for fuck's sake Twitch.
Is it that difficult just to have a mobile interface but still have all the functionality of the real site? I'd even be willing to put up with ads. Just let me watch the channels I want.

Apparently that is totally unreasonable...

Why US only? Would barely have to boot up my pc anymore if this was available in the EU.

Also for android users Streamie is a far better app for watching twitch streams.

So, the Xbox Infinity, I figured, was going to have Twitch seeing as Sony couldn't seemingly get their hands on them. As a fan of both Twitch and using my box for movies and YouTube, this should be fucking amazing news and one that hypes me for the next console outing.

Then they finally release the Twitch app for the 360 with the same fluff that is attached to every other US only app. There is no point boasting an 800k broadcaster number when only a tiny percentage of that can be viewed. Viewed by who exactly? Certainly nowhere near the 34 million they boast in the press release that's for sure.

There are amazing apps available for the 360 but having such an inconsistent experience across regions is super disappointing unless you're in the US.

Would I pay a slightly higher subscription to Gold if it meant getting access to the previously locked off content? I'd sure as hell consider it given the sheer amount of content I'm missing out on.

Bad news and hype-reducing going in to the reveal in a few weeks.

- Top 300 channels only
- US only

SMH. Sounds as useless as the iOS app. I dunno how Twitch can't get their app shit together.

Saw that he iOS app just did this too. So stupid. They removed the search feature as well.

I think Sony's partnership with UStream is a really bad move. UStream is basically a dying service. Whereas twitch.tv is absolutly ginormous and a major component of the video game industry. Competitive games that do not utilize it have no hope competing with others. I'm not sure how important this is to the console market however.

While its true, ustream is basically non existent in comparison to twitch if you're watching the stream on your console it doesn't really matter what service it is, as long as it functions properly. The only real downside is when viewing that content outside of the console.

Basically no one is going to bother signing up for a ustream account to watch ps3 games, whereas twitch has millions of viewers.

Just in the current top 100 streams there are 40 different games (I counted). You will be able to watch basically ANY game you want to.

i never had much issue with diversity either, assuming android app is also just top300. never watch lol/sc2/etc, and use twitch app quite a lot.

That's a fair point, this app being released so close to the Infinity reveal indicates that Microsoft still are pulling US-only bullshit for their entertainment section, especially considering this is not a site that has ever region locked any territory out.

You don't need to sign up to watch a stream.

Ustream not Twitch are exclusive.

Already a hilarious discovery: fight sticks can't be used to navigate the app. So either the app was coded to block out third-party controllers or it's just a bug.

GG Twitch

Twitch app is terrible. They've tried to get rid of their problems by eliminating commonly used features and limiting the breadth of the app.

Combine that with pushing Turbo for no reason and I would say that they are trying to find a buyer or more investors very soon without building up a strong technical base.

They know streamers have no other real choice and they're taking advantage of that, like any good business would. I just think they could do it in a way that doesn't piss off streamers and viewers alike.

Playing the twitch app right now. Looking at someone play metroid prime for 100%.

Quality is okay right now. The 300 list has alot of people playing different games.

Shitty move for keeping it US only though.

Sitting here watching a Metro: Last Light play through

Quality is cool. The guy playing it is fun. Playing the app on my main UK account

Well the worst part for me is that Microsoft are still only seeing the U.S. as a country worth adding big apps for.

They haven't changed a bit, and if this bleeds over to the Durango I'm certainly going to jump ship to the PS4

I hope Twitch gets some competition soon. Their strategy is pretty dumb in my opinion. Instead of ditching Flash so all browsers can play their streams they keep Flash and make apps for everything. One at a time... slowly....

Your assuming they didn't try, MS originally announced the Twitch App a year ago, their agreement might go back further, Sony might have had no choice but to go with UStream. Personally I think it will be really shitty if Twitch becomes MS console exclusive, when it comes to emerging markets like streaming and e-sports I don't think any one company should have such a big player under their thumb.

Wait, what?

You can download it on a US account and play it on a UK one.

Wait, what?

I have my main UK gold account. And a USA and Japanese one.

Some of the US apps work fine on UK accounts. So apps like Vimeo and Twitch will work with no problems.

Just log into your US account DL the app log back into your main account and voilà

does it need a us gold account to download it?

This has to be a joke. The android app sucks ass and now they release an app on the xbox in the US only and only let you view from the top 300? What is so wrong with just adding a search function into the app to let me view what I want. From reading the thread they have removed that option from the iOS app as well which is such a dick move. I've just checked the Play store for an alternative app and this came up, GG World (Twitch.tv). I'm going to try it tonight and see if it's any good unless someone here has already tried it?

If you're on Android, try Streamie. Works like a champ (you do have to install Flash). Not sure of good alternatives on other platforms.

Might give that a try later. I'm in Ireland with an Irish main account. I had only made a UK account to get Rock Band Network songs. I wonder if there will be some weird restriction but it's worth a try.

I think you should be shouting at Twitch regarding "US ONLY", not MS. Getting angry about your Gold membership is obviously a separate matter though.

Yeah, the whining about licensing is hilarious. As if Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft can control media-rights to stuff they don't produce/own.
