Twitch App announced for XBox 360; Coming Today

Or they could say to Twitch/everyone your app can't be approved unless it works in all English speaking markets (minimum)

Why? What business functions that way? "Hey, let's deprive our largest market of something because we can't get it licensed for other areas. Sorry, Netflix, but we're not adding you until you can work in Fiji."

Pretty big news. Does this mean the FGC will mostly be on Xbox in the upcoming generation?

US only, Gold Only, only top 300...

Whats the opposite of hype? Because MS generates this for me for the new Xbox with stuff like this.

lol top 300. Gold only. No sp00ky streams on 360, I guess.

Given the PS4 allows outright streaming? Nahhhhh. This is only a stream viewing application. If 720 gets on the level of PS4 it's a toss-up, but streaming ability from hardware only > streaming watching that can be done on numerous devices.

even though he never would, does anyone else find it ironic that Don Mattrick can't watch this on his own xbox seeing as he lives in Vancouver?

Awesome news! Last year I hooked my laptop up to my TV for EVO. This is much more preferable.

iTunes reviews about the latest update are lol, so no search feature (who thought that was a smart idea?), broken sound on iphone 4, low user streams still refuse to load up most of the time.

Because MS is the guardian of the platform - obviously Netflix/BBC Iplayer are a totally different beast to say Twitch which anyone can use. There is no reason why it isn't day 1 UK/Canada/Ireland/US.

I sound like a broken record at this point, but the deal Sony has with UStream on the PlayStation 4 is not exclusive, and we don't deal in exclusives when it comes to our apps, either. We want a Twitch app on everything. How else can one achieve world domination? ;)

Good to hear. Ustream is a fucking joke. If it's meant to be shared, it should be shared on twitch.

Well this will make for a fun Evo at least. It's a shame it's limited to top 300 channels though.

Why is this a problem? Last I checked, the top 20 games held 80‰ of the traffic on twitch, leaving 280 channels for speed running and obscure bullshit with single digit viewers watching them.

This is horrible. I like watching my niche fighting game material, but it's rare for that type to break top 300, except on huge events. I also dabble in twitch when a new game comes out to kind of see what all the fuss is about and those new games sometimes will have a handful of viewers. Looks like I'll still have to stream PC-Twitch to my living room.

This pretty much confirms Twitch to have Nextbox streaming/integration though right.

Wow, that's pretty harsh. Honestly, it's a little tiring to see SC2, LOL, DOTA 2 dominate. Those single digit channels sometimes offer something different.

As someone who does not watch the top 20 unless one of them is spooky and spends most of his time watching speed runs live people with viewer counts ranging from 20 to 200 most of the time, it's a problem.

Long as you can watch people you follow (since there is no search option) it's not so bad.

Well I don't really have any interest in Dota 2, LoL, Starcraft, WoW, or Minecraft, so right off the bat, there's a ton of channels I would never watch.

I'd be much more interested in "obscure bullshit" honestly.

Even in the top 300, if you're not pulling in over 117 viewers, you shouldn't be listed on the app. There's a channel right now with 80+ people watching a guy browsing the web. Note: that's in the top 300.

Then get your friends to watch more.

Then this app isn't for you I guess.

Prepare to hear this for the 90% of "great" Durango services.

Pretty much.

The 360 was my favorite console this gen but I will almost certainly be going PS4 for this reason.

I don't care so much about the services, rather that people outside the US are not offered a discount on LIVE so are effectively subsidizing for their american customers

I just checked in the app. There's no way to sign in and view your followed channels.

You can't.

Cool, but I'm expecting functionality to expand with the new console. And if it's an exclusive deal, I think it's a pretty decent get.

Everyone knew this was going to be Gold exclusive, but the Top 300 channels only really does kill a lot of interest for me. That said, there are quite a few Xbox apps that started out absolute shite and have improved drastically since their release (Youtube, VEVO, Last.FM), so it has potential.

This doesn't strike me as something that should be difficult to get right the first time.

My guess would be to be able to monitor and police those channels. I expect them to go hard after those who play pre release games.
Twitch already does this on their own.

Good luck trying to stream an unreleased game for more than 20-30 minutes with any viewers before getting shut down cold. They have been fairly proactive about this since Twitch launched in 2011.

Yep. Just as my Gold runs out.
Unless I can watch fighting game streams, this app is worthless to me.
Of course you can watch those. Streams for majors regularly break and stay in the top 10, with the bigger weekly streams definitely making at least the top 50.
