Twitch App announced for XBox 360; Coming Today

Seems highly likely.

Perhaps, but I wouldn't jump to any conclusions yet.

An app means nothing. It is a logical extension to their rather shit iOS and Android Apps.

The Sony event was also streamed via Twitch. GG to Major Nelson trying to hype the streaming as some form of major coup.

Well I don't really have any interest in Dota 2, LoL, Starcraft, WoW, or Minecraft, so right off the bat, there's a ton of channels I would never watch.

I'd be much more interested in "obscure bullshit" honestly.

Yep. Maybe this will evolve over time, but right now my interest level is next to nothing.

Why should this app have to "evolve" to get some pretty basic features/functionality that should be included in the original version? They announced this was coming to the XBox 360 a year ago at E3 for crying out loud. No searching, top 300 channels only, unable to sign in to your Twitch account to view channels you regularly watch, US only, XBox Live gold only. Is it just about the money (yes I understand they are a business)? I don't use TwitchTV that much but I won't even bother downloading this app in it's current state.

So it works by getting a US account and using it using UK profile. My only problem is the screen on the stream is cut off. You try a LoL stream, and a lot of the HUD is cut off. Tried the TV and 360 settings, no luck.

Is that just a UK problem, or just a me problem?

Just tried out the app and seems very smooth. Was able to search by game for streams and video loaded almost instantly and quality was good.

The lowest had 6 or 7 viewers when I left. If you watch something less than that it's probably somebody you know irl.

Don't expect that to be the case during United States prime time. Usually during US prime time, the last channel that will load on the Android app has about 200+ viewers.

What is with Twitch and their shitty apps? They outright removed search in the most recent iOS update, stop limiting channels like that.

I think you can still get your followed channels though.

Someone made a good point on twitter, it seems like twitch either hates or is embarrassed by their non revenue generating providers of content is doing their best to alienate and ignore them.

Besides the utter stupidity of being US only, I'm much more annoyed about the inserting of F2P content in the iOS app.

I was wondering something... on my iPhone, I'm currently using the version that works (almost) flawlessly, has a search engine and shows more than 300 channels... will they ever force me to update to the latest shit patch that restricts me so much?

so how does a channel come into the top 300 if noone is able to find and watch it ?

(Never used twitch before)
You can still see all the channels on PC.

People find and watch it on the website. Apparently that's the only place you can search and find the small channels. But keep in mind those are smallll channels. Like < 6 viewers small.

Personally, I'm really excited to have Dota 2 on the big screen, especially with The International tournament going on!

Last night I was playing around on the app when I checked twitter and realized that a guy I follow was streaming. I couldn't find him on the app, checked back on the computer and he had like 27 people watching good for his stream which at the most may hit mid 60s on a special weekend.

So basically a guy streaming WOW (at the time) with less than 30 people during primetime (around 7 EST) cannot be viewed on the 360 app and that makes it completely useless to me.

Yeah, it's the same on iOS. Really ... unfortunate decision.

I tried this out this afternoon a little watching some Dota 2. I was impressed with the quality of the video all things considered, but does anyone know if there is any way to resize the video itself? The picture was clearly too big on my TV, as I lost some of the frame on every side of the video. Being able to shrink it down just a bit would be fantastic, as was unable to see some pretty important bits of information.

Sorry to hear that. Guess he needs to become more entertaining ;)

I agree that having a feature to at least let you watch any followed streams would be nice, but I also understand why they drew a line.

showing your followed list should be one of the first things they have in something like this, it's like a media player with no ability to play your own made playlist.

Let me get this right, the xbox version right now has no search and also no ability to log in and see who you follow at all? the iOS version allows you to log in and see who on your follow list is live in a single press, however I do not have the latest update which changed things to me more like this xbox app, so no idea if that was removed or not, I refuse to update.

Why US only? You just lost an app viewer Twitch/Xbox.

Most apps on Xbox LIVE start as US only because it takes additional work (mostly of the paper variety) and time to get your app approved for different regions. Ours is no exception, and we fully intend for it to be as global as possible asap.

top 300 currently live is going to be pretty much all the channels with at least 35 viewers or more. Sure it sucks for the smaller streamers still building up but i dont know how exactly people are getting so angry....

just go down the list yourself at a given time of the top 300 http://www.twitch.tv/directory/all

start with the obvious League, Dota, starcraft minecraft but then saw dark souls, skyrim, runescape, megaman, mirrors edge, fighting games, kirby, dk64, yoshis island, papers please and all sorts of other more obscure games. scrolling past 300+ will be that 1% usability issue who knows maybe it because a performance and memory issue at that point.

As for US only i dont know maybe its due to advertising logistics.

meh but whatever, fuck microsoft right?

I'm actually enjoying this more than I thought I would.

Watched earlier someone playing System shock 2. Now I'm watching Battle Circuit.

Just wish the quality was better. It's still good though.

The app is great. Loads channels incredibly fast and all this nonsense about "I hope you like PC games" is dumb. Pretty much every Zelda game ever made is being played now, as well as most 3D Mario titles plus tons of other console games. Just watched someone play Majora's Mask for 30 mins.

This is pretty nice to see. Thanks.

It's not the case in this app, since there wasn't a 360 app before, but setting the precedent that you can view all channels and then taking it away is fucking dumb and there's no defense for it. Your rationalizations are poor and anecdotal.

Does anyone else get overscan issues with the Twitch app? I'm watching TeamSpooky right now, and the player names are cut off at the top.

I'm rationalizing? What exactly? And no, it's not anecdotal. What I see on the app, everyone else with the app sees.

Yep, it's mild, but it's definitely there.

Presumably, but hey it took them how many years to figure out how to run ads on the mobile app so I think we'll have some time.

Twitch's ability to fuck up their product continues unabated. I saw the iOS update and laughed, if/when the older version I'm using stops working I'll finally just delete it.

1) Installed Twitch xbox live App.
2) Saw you couldn't load up twitch channels your currently following (let alone even log on via xbox app, to your twitch profile ala Last FM/Youtube app, etc).
3) Couldn't find WWE'13 in the list of 'top games' (VGCW fan). Only saw endless channels for World of Warcraft and League of Legends (and several fighting games).
4) Asked self if this limited app is even worth being 'exclusive' to Gold Xbox Live members.
5) Uninstalled Twitch xbox live app.

really? i'm pretty sure I came across that game on the games channel fairly quickly. if you browse by game there won't be endless channels for WoW and LoL. theres one coverart for each game and wwe 13 is pretty easy to find when they do the VGCW thing.

Hey Jared, why can't we get a list of channels we follow?

Yeah, people are overeacting. People must think the top 300 is nothing but LoL, Dota 2, and Starcraft.

I just think it's lame this is gold only/mad that this comes out just when my Live runs out.

I sound like a broken record at this point, but the deal Sony has with UStream on the PlayStation 4 is not exclusive, and we don't deal in exclusives when it comes to our apps, either. We want a Twitch app on everything. How else can one achieve world domination? ;)

It's a damn shame this is US exclusive though. You have an audience outside the US that has been using the app on PC and iOS from day one. Probably nowhere near your call to make, but still very disappointing.
