Ubisoft Reveals Game List For Uplay Plus Subscription Service

These subscriptions are so stupid, what people need is just one place that they can play all their games. Ubisoft barely have one game a year worth playing anyway....

Who wants to pay for 3 to 5 different subs to cover all their bases with no achievements or trophies etc. It's just bad.

Keep it PlayStation, Keep it Nintendo, Keep it Xbox..... support physical purchases to keep it open as an option and keep the market competitive.

I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that all these companies pulling their games from each-others subscription services and making their own game subscription services and streaming services with their games exclusive to the subscription and their service, will cause a video game crash like the great crash of 1983.

I already own most of the games, and what I don't own I have zero interest in ever playing. I don't know what this service is marketed towards, but I do know they're only doing it because a constant stream of revenue is better than spurts of it. What they don't realize is that some of their games are incredibly niche so not many folks are going to subscribe simply for those.

This fracturing of platforms and the emphasis on subscriptions is going to torpedo the rise of digital ownership.

IMO it's going to create other changes to the industry. Examples like Fortnite give some indication of how developers like to treat games when they know their audience are finicky and not bothered about sticking to one game at a time. It could be that gaming is about to get into a real comfy relationship with the 'attention economy'.

Damn I really should have made a point in the prior sentence about how some people only want to experience the main story...Oh wait I totally did.

There's plenty. Your own link to HLTB shows over 25% of AC4 times submitted were main story only. Not to mention the rest of my comment that unless you're getting at least 2 months out of a discounted game at $30 the value is still better in a sub. Or that many people want to get through the story in older games to catch up to current titles. Or those of us that don't wish to spend an extra 40 hours doing the same 3 missions only with an NPC wearing a blue coat instead of a greed one in AC because the sidequests are very repetitive.

But yeah, you put a gif there so you totally win this. I'm gonna go commit sudoku now

There really is not much money in this even if you look at PS Now with 250-300 PS4 games and 700+ streaming games they are having a hard time selling it for $69.99 (on sale) to $99.99 (regular) price. And most of the games even for PS Now are not Sony games, and there really isn't much money in this for the developers... pennies really. Old games are basically worthless.

No country for old games.

I don't think so, I find it more likely that the ubiquity of subscription services is going to slow uptake to the entire class of offerings and perhaps more damaging is going to limit recurrence as people hop between providers.

The worrisome part is how these publishers are going to react when they realize they need to actively drive retention...

I'll pay the $15 for a month to play Breakpoint with my buddies, enjoy it, then cancel. Easy $30+ saved.

I've never played any AC game for longer than a given month before moving on and that's after completing it and dumping a solid 100 hours.

So instead of the yearly full price for a game I'll just be paying 15?

UBI.......

Its pricey compared to the competition, but for 1 or 2 months to binge on a bunch of the games its not bad, especially if new games are coming to the service. Sign up for the new watch dogs, play it some other games and cancel.

Going to have to game the system until these companies smarten up and force mulitple month or even year long commitments.

cant wait to pay 200 a month for 15 subscription services.

Lol.

It can be a great deal if you just buy monthly subs and keep one at a time. Way cheaper than buying individual games, even if waiting for price drops. At least for one and done gamers who don't collect or care about replaying.

Ubi makes big sprawling time sink games, and unless you've got lots of time on your hands or are just obsessed with completion to the exclusion of everything else in life ploughing through several titles in a month is a pipedream.
yes. even when i didn't have a job and just played videogames all day, i never beat Far Cry 3 cos of the second island, it was just too much. i never beat Black Flag cos again, it's a huge, giant map, just so much to do. eventually some other game came out. can't just play one game forever.

they are good time sinks tho. if i had no job now i might consider blowing through all the series in a few months.

Black Flag is the best, ultimate pirate video game ever made, even if the forced modern day segments make me incredibly angry. one of the reasons i gave up that game tbh...
