Ubisoft stock is tanking hard after disastrous earning report

Wait, this coming from the same person who seemed take data which originated from the same source as "reliable" when it was initially seen in a more positive light?

"real metrics" you know.

Lmao, in what multiverse is 'according to an Ubisoft announcement' the same as 'alinea analytics'?

Comprehension shouldn't be this hard

I'm referring to the "according to further data seen by" section, which is actually what the bulk of the article is about.

So much for "comprehension".

Quote from Ubisoft: 'Assassin's Creed Shadows winning over more than three million players':
No mention of sales, which likely means it sold less than 3 million as otherwise they would have used sales as the metric. So the mentioned 2.4 million could be releasitic, though i believe it's lower judging by their horrible steam numbers.
It definitely sold less than 3M at the time, but Ubisoft+ is only available on PC and Xbox, not PS where the bulk of the sales would presumably come from. So either those 3M aren't far off from total sold, or the majority comes from Ubisoft+ on PC and Xbox, which is doubtful but not impossible.

Game released on March 20th, 3 million players was announced on the 27th (of course, players aren't sales so it doesn't mean all that much). The Alinea analytics people make up numbers, they don't know shit.
I would like the numbers to be true as a fuck you to Ubisoft, but nope.

Ubisoft is too big, oversaturated, quantity vs quality.

I have no idea the type of people who still buy Far Cry, Assassins Creed, Ghost Recon etc... these games are so mid tier its sad.

Ubisoft needs to sell over half their studios, focus on Splinter Cell, Assassins Creed and Ghost Recon only.

Make them quality games, not focus bloat and MTXs.

Where are all the people that said UBI was back when the early sales numbers. I guess there is no tail on this game.

A lot of people ate crow that did not have to.

We can argue Assassin's Creed's success and/or "woke"ness or lack thereof--the point is, it didn't save the company. Many on here already knew it would not.

Are people going to shut up now with the 3 million player bullshit? You know who you are.

Oh boy, some folks are feeling like morons, today. They fell for the 1 million, 2 Million, 3 million players played.

This is wonderful news, the quicker Ubisoft shuts down, the quicker more storefronts leave gaming.

Just Imagine if ubisoft devs released a AAA quality game with AA budget, No MTXs, no "Premium Currency" bullshit, no DEI, with an incredible quality story & universe the likes of Rayman or Beyond Good & Evil in the 20s ?

Oh wait, it's called Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

Those numbers are fake. Its some random no name analytic site, like VGChartz.

Yeah, numbers are completely fake. Why only guestimate the Steam sales and leave out completely sales on Ubisoft's own store. If you wanted to play AC:S for cheap, you'd subscribe for a month to Ubisoft+ or buy it at a lower price from a PC key store (which would only sell Ubisoft store keys).

AC Japan -the most demanded setting since day one of the franchise- should have obliterated every AC that came before it. They shouldn't be in a position where they are having to defend limping past Odyssey as a success, and the fact that they are is a situation entirely of their own making. It was genuinely harder to fuck it up as badly as they did than for it to be wildly successful.

If someone were to argue that it did well considering the design choices they made, that might actually be true, but they didn't have to make those choices.

it's not like the writing hasnt been on the wall for years, they refused to change, they refused to change leadership, they reap what they sow simple as that.

I don't hate ubisoft as a whole, actually quite the contrary with older Ubi titles forming some of my best gaming memories, but modern Ubisoft was a dumpster fire and this is what happens when things are mismanaged.

Clair Obscur is very obviously a AA game. People confuse good art design for expensive assets, animations, and texture work in an open world. It doesn't even have English lip synching. It's not even $60, let alone $70, let alone $100 for the special edition with microtransactions.

I'm at that point where i don't know if buying Ubisoft stock is good now that it's low or if this is a sinking ship for good lmao.
Its definitely sinking ship, question is can u still make money on it incase some1 decides to aquire it? If answer to that would be clear "yes" some1 would have already purchased it, so a lot of nasty stuff is happening there under the hood.

Sony got Bungie for 3,7b back in 2022, so that 1,2b usd for Ubi seems super low, hell compared to worthless shit modern day Bungie is even 5b for Ubi wouldnt be too much, but again something is there not in the open when no big playas wanna touch that company even with a stick :P

The fact that the game has a HEAVY DRM on PC (incl. monitoring your CPU...?) probably didn't help matters.
The game is almost unplayable on PC, I keep getting the DX12 Error, thinking it was a simple issue. Turns out it's a massive issue for a lot of PC players and Ubisoft still hasn't fixed it which is why I dropped the game.

Wow a retweet, that certainly seals it.

You better hope he's never retweeted anything from Alinea.

He retweeted his own podcast 🤣

It's right there in his bio. He runs The Game Business, the retweet comes from his business page.

I must admit I'm surprised with how desperately people wants to see Ubisoft disappear. For most threads like this, people will demand a real source before starting the fires, but apparently for Ubisoft the massively well-known and reputed Alinea Analytics (yes, that's sarcasm) is good enough? On their investors call, Guillemot mentioned that AC Shadows was (I'm paraphrasing) showing how strong and resilient the IP was, whatever that means (they didn't disclose sales numbers) and that player spending and player count has surpassed AC Odyssey. They also mentioned that they've delayed their next projects on all big IPs (AC, Far Cry, Rainbow Six, The Division and I'm forgetting which was the other, they mentioned five) to give them more time in the oven because that worked positively for the game.

If anything, the fact they're willing to postpone those launches to 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 must be a signal that things aren't financially as dire as they were. He also mentioned that we'll know more about the joint venture with Tencent later this year (which I'm guessing is the big factor as to why they aren't as worried as before).

And ofc, a few sources:

And straight from the horse's mouth: https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/company/about-us/investors (the second link on the fiscal year earnings).

Them and Alinea created their own circle of "data supplied to us" to paint the game in a positive light, only for it to ultimately fail.

Wonderful stuff.

No more, Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Farcry, Rabbids games ... that's a great win for gaming!! That's cutting off your own nose to spite your face.

The game works absolutely great on my PC. Played 70+ hours in 4K with all settings maximized.

I don't play games that have storefronts, so I'm not sure what the last AC game I've played. I am firmly against any microtransactions for a multitude of reasons, unless it is more playable game content.

To have less storefronts and games manipulated to push people towards said storefronts, I'd be fine without those games.

Just my opinion, only.

Oh no, you don't. Chris Dring has long been acknowledged as someone with access to actual, credible data.

You trying to rope him into the same circle as Alinea who come up with estimates…what are you doing? 🤡

So the source is a reddit post saying "let's assume" and Ubisoft's stock down ? Even if Ubisoft didn't disclose any sales number ?

This is one of the most embarrassing sales threads on Neogaf. So much idiocy and ill will exposed.

If he has access to sales data then he shouldn't need to stoop so low to involve himself in "player" and "engagement" figures when it suits his agenda.

I think they haven't been purchased only because they are so hell bent on retaining control. So they worked out this deal where they still make games but pay royalties on the IPs. If they fail again then they will be scooped up, and Tencent will have a task resuscitating those brands after losing momentum on the restart attempt, kind of like Halo cratering.
