Tell that to Rua.Rur0ni said:Would be hard on Sonnen in a rematch. Gotta win it the first time when you're the underdog.
yeah whatever he dominated alves and was working the entire fight. as far as finishing why don't you check on the last time your boy chael finished someone. more to the sport than one-shot kos and inverse triangles. just stick to highlights as you don't seem to have much patience for anything elseFio said:Lame post fight press conference. Someone there should have called Sonnen out for his 'fake tapping'. Pretending he didn't tap was pathetic. But Sonnen still got some respect from me, he's a fighter, differently than Fitch, who singlehandedly represents all that this sport doesn't need. I practice grappling, I'm actually one of these few people who watches and enjoys pure grappling tournaments, but it's infuriating seeing Fitch fighting, he just can't finish at all, he doesn't look for submission or to gnp his opponent, he doesn't want to do anything except pinning his opponent down, the card was just incredible except by his lame performance, again.

No way man, Chael earned 1,000,000 points for another shot tonight. I've always been very much looking forward to see Vitor fight Anderson, but now is not the time to let Anderson run away from Chael Sonnen. We all saw him get his ass kicked tonight, excuses or not.Zeliard said:Man.
It better be Belfort next, wtf. Dude's been waiting in the wings since September.

So many big bombs thrown in that fight.
Zeliard said:Eh. It wasn't a controversial fight, though, like Penn/Edgar and Shogun/Machida. Those two fights demanded instant rematches. This one doesn't really scream for one. Sonnen was taking it to Anderson but ended up losing cleanly. He had his shot and lost it. It's time for the next guy to step up.

though im pretty sure that ends with a Sonnen win

After a fight like this, I can see why Silva fans wouldn't want to see another fight...Zeliard said:Eh. It wasn't a controversial fight, though, like Penn/Edgar and Shogun/Machida. Silva has a chin, combined with Sonnen's less than devastating strikes. It's not unsurprising he could weather the storm on his back for 5 rounds. He showed some good raw strength attempting to get up I think in the 3rd round. If he can stuff the takedowns of Sonnen in a rematch he'll finish him in the first or second round.samus i am said:Just got back from watching the fight and I have to say this was one of the most entertaining cards ever. I think that Sonnen proved that Silva has some serious wholes in his game but overall you have to give props to Silva on the win. He was continuously rocked in the face by Sonnen and still found a way to win. You have to give you props to him for that. There are so many fighters that would not have been able to last.

Everyone today. That fight was CURSED! Son of a TIT!Barrage said:I withstood a loudmouth's chiirps for FOUR ROUNDS, then ran that motherfucker into the ground when Siilva got the win.
When I ran outside, I sprained both ankles. Who the fuck is karma supposed to be punishing here?

Not a Jellyfish said:It was a close fight, closest Anderson has had in a long time and that warrants a rematch. I did not see Penn/Edgar as being controversial but more of it being just a razor close fight.
LOL! Couldn't agree more! I must have repeated "watch out for that submission Chael" over 20 times in the last 3 rounds.Bumblebeetuna said:Man. Fuck. That fight was like beating off to some awesome porno with a super hot woman in it and then right when you're about to blow your load, she stands up and you see a dick hanging down. Fuck. So anticlimactic. And what's worse is I knew the dick was coming. I was sitting there the entire 5th round just waiting for Sonnen to somehow blow it. He must feel terrible, he was so close and he utterly dominated that fight. Would love to see a rematch.
In Sonnen's defence, he didn't blow it. Silva was positioning himself for the triangle even at the end of round 4 and most of round 5.Bumblebeetuna said:And what's worse is I knew the dick was coming. You and your accurate and intelligent analysis of the fight... GTFO. Gaf is arguing!abstract alien said:That was fucking impressive on both parts. The amount of ferocity shown by Sonnen against a dominant champion, followed by a classic example of maintaining composure under pressure from Silva was nothing short of amazing.

No, he was trying to not be hit and his extensive training let him know that there was an opening for a triangle. Don't over think it. Great training and great reaction, definitely a champion even though I wanted him to lose.ChefRamsay said:Silva was luring Sonnen into a false sense of security. I watched him reposition his hips and casually work his right foot onto Sonnen's left hip while keep his left leg wrapped around Sonnen.RiccochetJ said:No, he was trying to not be hit and his extensive training let him know that there was an opening for a triangle. The thing is, everybody agrees that 9 out of 10 times Penn would destroy Edgar, and that Penn didn't seem himself that night, and that on top of that it was a close decision. Even the odds for Penn/Edgar2 are the same they were for the first fight. You wouldn't be able to say the same for a rematch between Anderson and Sonnen. Sonnen did more damage in that single fight than anybody silva fought in the UFC did combined. He was on his way to an easy victory, and if they fight again the odds will be a lot closer. That submission from Anderson doesn't undo the beating he received tonight.Zeliard said:There was a bit of controversy regarding that decision, especially after the metric stats showed that Penn had landed more shots. Not nearly as much controversy as Shogun/Machida, but it was there, and it's why the rematch was made.
I think Belfort deserves his shot before Sonnen gets a rematch. If nothing else, do Belfort/Sonnen and the winner gets Silva. Belfort's injury screwed things up but now both he and Silva are free.

It was planned. Jiu-jitsu 101.
I may only have 10 months of BJJ experience, but I can still spot a set-up when it's happening

Oh for FFS. RUA! How do you go from a decision to a first round knock out? Training! If he has the right coaches, it can happen! Or alternatively, Silva will learn from his mistakes and he will knock out Sonnen within the first 30 seconds!samus i am said:If there was a rematch what could Sonnen do any better? It seems to me like he gave absolutely 100% and still came up short. On the other hand, if Silva improves his take down defense I think he could make short work of Sonnen.

Well if it comes down to that, Belfort and Sonnen will be facing each other.Buckethead said:It all comes down to if Silva needs time out for that rib.
Dana White and crew isn't waiting a year for that rematch money.
Well, you just said it: Belfort has been waiting for his shot. He hasn't fought anybody at middleweight yet. Unless Sonnen is injured or something, I find it hard to not give the fans another exciting fight like the one we just had. Strike the iron while it's hot, keep this going.Zeliard said:I don't disagree with any of that. Literally my only problem with a Sonnen/Silva rematch is that I think Belfort deserves the shot first. He's been waiting in the wings, and there wasn't some fuck-up of a decision tonight that greatly demands an instant Silva/Sonnen rematch, so I think it should go to Belfort first.
If you have Sonnen/Silva II next, then who is Belfort supposed to fight? He's been specifically waiting for Anderson Silva. I'd have no issue with an instant Sonnen rematch if there wasn't another immediate contender for Silva, but there is.
