Another poor MMA memory. Georges had a boring fight in Hardy. That's it. One fight is not a trend. And even that fight was more exciting than the majority of Machida's decision wins.

GSP/Alves - exciting
GSP/Fitch - exciting
GSP/Penn II - exciting
GSP/Hughes III - exciting
GSP/Serra II - exciting

I don't hide my bias, I am the biggest GSP mark in the world. But if you're going to shit on him, try to construct a rational argument. One fight does not a boring fighter make.
You forgot Sera I. Very exciting.

Alves vs Doomsday is gonna be titties!

Miller vs Oliveria and Hazelett vs Bocek are also very interesting fights.

GSP is a great fighter but most of his fights are boring to watch. I mean the Alves fight was rinse and repeat over and over again. Hit him once or twice, then take him down, do nothing, get back to his feet and repeat. GSP is no Fedor when it comes to entertainment.

My brother doesnt really watch MMA and when he sat with me to watch the GSP/Penn II fight, he got up and left the room by the end of round two.

Honestly if you had a vote, most people would say GSP was a boring fighter to watch, still a great fighter, just pretty boring.

Also because someone considers a fighter boring does not mean he is shiting on him. At the end of the day this business is all about providing entertainment.

back when gsp was up and coming he was always exciting to watch... now i dont think his competition is always up to scratch or his wrestling is just too good

Hail to the KING baby
yeah he really did beat up alves pretty bad. alves is tough and hard to finish too much like fitch. i do think the hardy fight was disappointing especially when you see what condit did to hardy but i can't totally blame gsp for saying hardy literally has only a puncher's chance so so why give it to him? hardy was also VERY defensive that fight as he himself admitted.

You must be a new fan.

Back at the height of Fedor's Pride reign, some were questioning his finishing ability too. After all, his best wins were Nog x2 and Cro cop. All "boring" decisions, am i rite?

I mean, "hit him once or twice, then take him down, rinse and repeat" basically describes Fedor/Nog III.

If "most" people would vote GSP as a boring fighter, how is he the sport's #2 draw?

If "at the end of the day this business is all about providing entertainment", how can you claim "objectively" that GSP is boring, if he's the #2 most financially successful fighter in the sport, and the UFC's #2 draw?

Logic.

well fedor vs crocop might have been the most hyped fight of the previous decade, and comparing fedor's devastating gnp circa those nog fights to gsp's is like comparing apples to oranges. fedor's gnp was violence personified with reckless abandon.

If you're a GSP fan then yes his fights are great and exciting displays of technical prowess but if you're not a fan or like me don't really care one way or the other then his fights are boring examples of takedown, takedown, takedown ad-nauseum until the fight is over and he has won by a overwhelming majority. he is so good in his division that he is boring.

i do think he's a great guy though, he has skill and class and there need to be more fighters like him BUT he does exemplify some of the reasons why my interest in the sport is waning.

Personal Opinion. When i watch GSP, most of the time i find him boring and tedious.

Well Brock was the worlds number one draw, thats what exposure can do for you. He was still technically a pretty shitty fighter, though i admit a more entertaining to watch then gsp.

GSP in my mind is boring. You don't have to agree with me and likewise i certianly dont have to agree with you. As far as being new, i guess i came into mma about 6 years ago.

Personally i find fighters like shogun, wandy, chuck, Rampage, Fedor, BJ Penn, Nick Diaz, and many more as exciting.

Seriously though, is it really hard for you to understand why some people would find GSP boring to watch?

I also wish one day that this retarded use of emoticons would cease to exist. It lowers the value of all discussions, as if children are talking to each other.

I don't think there is anything wrong with people finding certain fighters boring. Its just personal preference and doesn't mean "they aren't real fans." Personally I like GSPs fights, he is just so dominant and his fights are so impressive even if he isn't finishing. But if others don't like his fights thats fine.

I'm a big fan of GSP. I believe, in order to appreciate most of his fights, you have to enjoy pure grappling. That is kind of rare if you haven't been involved with grappling yourself.
Its a bit like curling. Unless you have seriously played curling before, I can't see anyone enjoying a match of curling on TV...

I happen to do grappling as a hobby. I can understand why people would find GSP boring. He is absolutly flawless at ground control. He makes minimal mistakes and takes very little chances. Yes it doesn't look flashy on camera but in order to enjoy it, you need to focus on the little things. The little twitch of muscles that indicate attempted sweaps/pass. The positioning of the back/torso. The inclination of the shoulders. Position of the arms/legs. Its all about tiny details that might not be seen firsthand if you are not looking for them. Rogan is somewhat competant at observing the obvious, but is leaving most of the subtleness.

Anyways, one aspect that you can enjoy even if grappling is not your thing is the absolute depair/frustration on the faces of GSP's opponents. I like it soo much. He is such a dominant fighter that his opponent must feel at complete lost after the first couple effortless takedowns. I wouldn't want to go against him. Not sure my ego could survive. :lol

Checking in just before the weigh ins.

For the fan Q n A, it seemed to bring out a lot of weirdos asking questions. Plus one guy got on the mike to propose to his girlfriend. :lol

And Fascism, it wasn't "personal opinion.". You went past that to say "most people would vote gsp is boring." And the idea that "most people" would say gsp is boring when "this business is all about entertainment" (your own words) and he is the second biggest draw in the ufc, is inherently contradictory.

It's not that GSP is boring, but he's been fighting very conservatively lately.

Agreed.
Since Serra knocked him the fuck out he hasn't been the same.

I like GSP, he's a fantastic athlete, comes across as a humble genuinely nice guy, and has a natural ability for MMA, but since Serra reminded him that anyone can get KO'd at any time, he has been fighting to win rather than fighting to finish.

When he does go for the finish he makes sure he does it on the matt via sub or stoppage because he still seems scared to risk brawling.
He is an intelligent fighter, and I have great respect for him, but fighting intelligently isn't always that entertaining...

I wouldn't say that. He gave up position a couple of time in the Hardy. Shields is a conservative.

Actually I appreciate more Shields' grappling ability than GSP's, he's way more technical. But yes, I agree with you, Shields is the very definition of fighting conservatively, but GSP is getting there, going for some kimuras is hardly trying hard enough to finish a fight. We want to see more devastating GnP and more complex submissions, because we know he can do it.

If Kosheck leaves the octagon like Hardy left (he barely had a scratch), I believe criticism against him will really increase.

weigh ins were CRAZY.

And GSP sounded friggin' psyched and intense in the post weighin interview. Straight up promising to kick kos' ass.

Were you at the weigh-ins live?

I haven't seen GSP like this before. He is DYING to get Koscheck into the octogon. He's out of character. Did Koscheck really get under his skin? I almost think so.

GSP was impressive at the pre-fight presser yesterday. Saying he wants to be the best ever, the greatest. Love the passion.

Hell yes I was! 5th row from the floor. :D

And let me tell you, if about 4k people can make that much noise at the weigh ins, I will have some severe hearing damage come Sunday morning.

GSP reminds me of Hopkins-- a crafty fighter that uses all the tools at his disposal to win with minimal risk. Some people find that boring, I don't know why this is hard to accept. Seriously, I can't think of anything in the world more subjective than what one finds entertaining. You GSP homers need to get a grip.
