UFC 143 |OT|: Diaz vs Conduit - The Start of the 209 Era

As always, the FightMetric will tell the true story.

Landed kicks all day, landed shots circling out from the cage all day. Started landing his own combinations in the last two rounds.

Game over. You can't win with octagon control alone.

I'm waiting for this postfight meltdown. Diaz is done with the UFC, I know Dana is not going to put up with this shit its going to be great. Diaz run out of MMA for good with bitter tears.

Not a diaz fan.......but he was more aggressive. Round 1, 2 diaz, 3, 4 go to condit, and round 5 to diaz for the takedown.

I dont understand this line of thinking. Walking at someone who not only is hitting you but totally neutralizing your own offense isn't winning by any stretch. If it was 'walk forward and get punched a lot' championship diaz definitely had it in the bag.

You're nuts.

Round 1,3, and 4 were unquestionably Condit's. 2 was close, could have gone either way. Five I guess you can give Diaz, but it was all Condit until that takedown.

It is objective fact that Condit landed more strikes through the first two rounds than Diaz did.

seems appropriate

I thought Diaz fans hated scoring fights for a fighter because of "control"?

Haha, I think that's what makes this result great. The only argument you could possibly have for Diaz winning is "octagon control", because he sure as hell didn't do much else outside of the end of the 5th round.

Can you really blame Diaz for retiring when he doesn't want to play the point system with runners?

Condit never intended to finish. Killer my ass. Pointmaster is more like it.

No shit.

Condit just turned this sport into TKD point fighting. Might as well give the guys padded armor with spots on it now.

Surprised so many people here are agreeing with the worst judging crew in the history of the sport.

I agree Condit won the fight but he didn't land a massive amount more strikes than Diaz. Lets just stop that myth right now. He threw a ton but connected with maybe 20-30% of those strikes. Maybe 2 of the spinning strikes connected and neither of them solid. The strikes that won him the fight were the leg kicks.

my comment was directed at those saying he ran away the whole time. a truly retarded and clueless thing to say to discredit condit,

Round 2 was definitely closer than round 1. Even the most pessimistic view would have Conduit winning 3 rounds, unless you think stalking = winning.

Ok Diaz got outstruck but you CANT say he did nothing outside of the 5th. He tagged Condit alot. Look at Condits face.

If Diaz wasn't a retard who had more strategy than 'walk forward and punch' and talk shit in the middle, maybe he could have fought him in the middle of the cage. But then again, he was getting his ass kicked everytime the fight was in the middle. But then again, this isn't B rate Strikeforce MMA, he fought someone with a brain, something Diaz obviously doesn't have - and lost. Deal with it.

To me, the only round up for debate is 1, and I had that as a 10-10 draw. Nick took 2 with better strikes and Octagon control. Carlos took 3 and 4. And Nick took 5.

On the post show they said Condit broke the record for leg kicks.

And yet, Diaz isn't limping...there was no "OMG! Look at how purple his leg is" call from Goldy or Rogan.

Why?

Baby leg kicks. Point fighting bullshit game of tag. And the worst judges in the sport awarded a Title for it.

...and you guys have no problem with that?

I'll give him that. He had a few solid lands. But he virtually played into the same traps over and over again. No adjustment whatsoever in the fight, probably because he was delusional and even said it himself that he thought he was winning via control.

Diaz was more aggressive and was pretty much in control of the octagon. He landed way better shots in round 1, and 2 , while carlos ran around the entire time. Round 3 and 4 , carlos won those 100% , as he got the better exchanges in. Round 5 was going to Condit by a slight margin, but with nick getting the takedown I award him the fight.

Either way , it was a disappointing fight. I've seen better battles during pokemon.

Wait .. weren't the announcers praising Diaz for that exact style of fighting? Now, because Condit turns the tables on him, he's a pussy?

Might want to look at Condit's past record. Tons of finishes.

He landed some nice shots on Condit but the simple fact is Condit landed considerably more, overall. I dunno if the numbers are up yet but there should be a huge difference in kicks landed, for one thing.

There's no argument you can really make in Diaz' favor except that he was more aggressive, in terms of constantly walking forward and through strikes, and I don't think that's nearly enough. When that's been hugely successful for him in the past in rattling his opponent so he can crush them throughout the fight with combos - especially against the cage - Condit wasn't about to have any of that and escaped danger every time, while also landing more shots.

Maybe UFC just isn't for you. Maybe just watch street fights?

And what do you call those 50% "flurries" by Diaz he throws? He had one good flurry in Rd 2 that had all the body force of Glass Joe. Condit looked like the guy just wiped the sweat off him.

Oh and weird, that blood on Diaz's face after the fight saying he didn't do anything was gravy. I love it.

Freddie Roach called this fight completely, btw.

That one video with Luke Thomas

LT: Is Diaz the best boxer in MMA.
Roach: No. Diaz isn't a great boxer, but he's good with his hands.
LT: What's the difference?
Roach: Footwork.

What did Diaz do to stop it? Nothing.

Condit did minimal damage despite throwing lots. That was obv his plan. Just get strikes off and escape when backed up and rack up the points.

But Diaz was even poorer than that. He seemed more intent on fighting, but he didn't really get anything off.

Smart from Condit. I found the fight really boring though. I wanted Diaz to win so maybe I'm biased or maybe I just hoped for a better fight...but I thought if was really dull.

Baby leg kicks? Thats hilarious in the context of defending a guy who made a career out of slapping like a bitch. Your boy got worked plain and simple.

All the damage and bruising migrates up to Nicks face, it's why he looks like he does.

I agree with this, less talk and mock, more strategy. I'm not sure he's that smart though.
