UFC 148 |OT| Shattering the myth that is Anderson Silva - 7.7.2012

on the contrary, i feel like Sonnen/Silva II has been the TRT that has reinvigorated my interest in mixed martial arts.

Seriously, there is no mystery behind why Chael P. Sonnen will set Anderson's buy rate record. That's barring Chael's excellent mic work.

Anderson is the Cena of MMA. A legit opponent has risen from the ranks and excitement has returned to the division. The chance of the champion losing is real. I love that.

GSP vs. Nick would've been great for the same reasons.

ya legit championship fights are always the best, not like the squash matches we usually get.

another point is that this rematch has been building for around 2 years now...i wish uncle dana and joe silva would learn some lessons from the long con here...nobody wants or enjoys immediate rematches that stagnate divisions for years on end...i hope the practice of automatic rematches for decision fights comes to an end.

Yep. Immediate rematches should only happen when the outcome of a fight is truly controversial for some reason, not just when it's just a good/close fight.

The only issue i take with this is that it makes the champ idle longer than he should or the titles change hands too quickly for the 'grudge' to remain relevant.

That's fuck up dude. You shouldn't hate Jones because he beat up Shogun.

Yo are we still on for making you get a real avatar? I will re iterate that you plead the apathy card however you been on the hook for a while now. You better man up and rise to the occasion! (brought to you by the marines)

Because Chael's got stones like John Holmes now. Did you not know that?

Hahaha that shit was butter. Chael got bars!

Lol LMJ is going nowhere.

:lol @ Dana trying to breakup Chael/Silva at the Press Conference

Very excited for Saturday. No matter what the outcome, the fight and the result will be satisfying. It's hard to imagine this being as amazing as their first fight, but I said the same thing about Edgar/Maynard II and the third fight was equally as great, if not better.

The rest of the card is quite solid too. Really pumped for Kim/Maia. Really hope K1 Maia is finished and we go back to "Sub of the Night" Maia. Also, I hope Cody chokes Mendes out.

Kim will decision Maia and call out Carlos Condit. Believe.

I feel like skipping the Maia fight since he's so boring now but knowing my luck he'll win by flying gogoplata if I do.

Amen friend.

Considering how bad he gassed against Weidman and then factor in him cutting to welterweight and I doubt that he'll last long against Kim.

I don't see why Maia thinks 170 doesn't have as many wrasslers that are going to lay on him than 185.

So what's the split like in this thread? I personally believe in Silva but there are a lot of Sonnen fans out there.

Just judging from the last fight and the situation that occurred(Silva injury, Sonnen suspense for whatever, etc), it would seem that Sonnen has little chance of winning. He couldn't beat Silva when he was supposedly at his worst, while he was at his best case scenario. That said, I always have a hard time telling myself that Sonnen has no chance. Silva has already been proven to look rather vulnerable on the ground at times when being pressed regardless of his pedigree, and Sonnen is someone that can likely take him down. I don't believe he will have much of a chance in the stand up department though like he did last time(actually out striking Silva lol). I would give my vote to Silva, but would in no way be shocked if Sonnen did come out with a victory. I would only be surprised if he were to outstrike Silva again and knock him out or something.

You could probably use the same title for the opposite result. Pretty funny seeing Silva fans and Sonnen fans go at each other's throats online. Stuff like that convinces me that adult MMA fans and adult wrestling fans are one and the same.

Up to this day, I tought Sonnen fans didn't even exist, lol.

Loving all the trashtalking and build up to this fight. Never seen Anderson this way and that gets me excited.

Popped down a couple of bets on the event. I do think Silva will take it though. I would have given Chael a shot but after his fight with Bisping was so close (I personally feel Bisping won) I just can't see it happening.

I guess we'll really see if Silva did have busted ribs or if it was just an excuse.

If he fights Silva anything like that Bisping fight(which I believe he lost as well), then he is going to get utterly destroyed.

god yes..this shit is driving me nuts. only reason to have immediate rematches are when everyone agrees the judges got it terribly wrong in the decision..
Not eh it was close could go either way..but WTF what were they watching?

I agree. They let it simmer and build up naturally. Plus you had the bonus of Chael constantly promoting himself in the interim period. But it's rather obvious that if it weren't for the elevated testosterone levels and money laundering conviction that this rematch would have happened before Belfort got front-kicked into irrelevancy. The sport isn't developed enough for the money men to think about the "long term", not to mention they don't have faith in the casual fans of remembering who X and Y fighter are and why this rematch matters unless it's within 6 months of the original fight. That and what if fighter X/Y loses in the interim period? All that they care about is milking it for all it's worth. Maybe if fighters took the Chael Sonnen approach (as in the marketing yourself & winning fights not the criminality and legal roids - well maybe the legal roids too) then the money men could risk thinking about the long term.

But I give the situation with Frankie Edgar a free pass though. He was forced into two rematches in a row so I think it's only fair he gets a first class ticket into getting smashed by Bendo again before fighting the Korean Zombie for the Featherweight title in mid-2013.

After Silva beat Chael can a mod rename the thread to

UFC 148 |OT| The Day After Reality Hits.

It pains me to see you on the wrong side of this war, friend. I won't hold it against you when Canderson Silva is exposed as the fraudulent champion he is.

Ya, I'll be much more excited for Edgar/Gray 4 after 2 years of Gray obsessively mentioning it in every post-fight presser. I just hope Edgar isn't a drooling monkey boy in diapers by the time he's finished with his trilogy with Bendo.

I find it really funny how overrated Bendo is right now. He won the decision in large part because a fluke upkick in the 2nd round landed and broke Edgar's nose.

I have to agree with my frenemy yacobud. Bendo/Edgar 2 could easily go the other way and set the stage for a rubber match nobody wants to see.

The most awesome MMA prophecy of all time.

Even if Benson did win the match by the skin of his heel kick.

in your fanfiction does Jose Aldo die in a plane accident or vacate his FW title to move up to LW?

There are going to be alot of tears and awkward silences in here after Saturday night.
RIP Sonnen's career.
Thankfully the WWE is always hiring and we can have a Sonnen run in to help Brock leading to a Brock and Sonnen tag-team.
