Chael got stupid in that second round. Waaaaaaaaaay too overzealous. My God that was a stupid spin.
has anyone successfully landed a spinning punch like that?

Sonnen made zuffa a lot of money this weekend because of his tireless promotion of this fight. The pro wrestling promos brought in a lot of casual viewers to see him succeed or fail. More fighters should follow his lead tbh. This was a big fight because its been building for 2 years. To borrow from my good friend dream, these dumb joes don't know how to promote themselves.
How many of those years will he still be dominant though? Father Time is undefeated and he catches EVERYONE.

Pretty much. There's no one outside of Sonnen that gets heat is there?

Not enough greasing talk in this thread. Absolutely shameful.
Didn't Jon Jones destroy Bader with that?

I honestly cannot believe Chad Mendes did not call out management for having him face Candy Mckenzie especially considering Joe Rogan and Goldberg talked about how he was arguably the number #2 featherweight.Sonnen made zuffa a lot of money this weekend because of his tireless promotion of this fight. There is no upside to saying I'll fight whoever joe Silva puts in front of me.You musn't go overboard with this though. It's okay (and right) to hype legitimate fights, such as (some) championship bouts, but you really shouldn't hype every shit. At some point people grow tired of it and it falls back on you.
Yeah. I'm glad I got to see Sonnen's ass kicked but that was dirty Silva. He was doing it while the camera is facing straight at him, zoomed in lol

John Makdessi knocked Kyle Watson out cold with one not too long ago.has anyone successfully landed a spinning punch like that?
Bones goes for the spinning elbow more than the fist if I am not mistaken, he has nasty elbows.
Dude is truly blessed, he has the perfect physic for a fighter and the brains to go with that.
Sonnen didn't do too bad as some of you are making out. The spinning backhand was a joke but the fact he got the takedown that Anderson would have been ready for within 5 secs and then full mount late was huge. He planned to grind out a win thats the way he fights.
I like Silva as much as the next guy but give credit where credit is due. Most would have predicted Silva to destroy Sonnen within that first.
Yeah, like I said, Chael is on the extreme end (in terms of trash talk) but it doesn't even need to be based around that.
Just become marketable outside your skillset in the octagon.
And hell yes, the build up/hype is what got me to buy the PPV without much consideration.
I WANTED TO SEE HOW IT WOULD END.
The UFC needs to do a better job of promoting these fights/fighter and whatnot to the non-insiders, imo.
Just make me care one way or the other.
Cheer or Jeer.
I had my head down in the computer for every single one of those undercard matches on FX.
THAT'S BAD.
Yep it's like all these guys think they can get over on their in ring(octagon?) performance alone.
Like if UFC is gonna have so many PPVs at least try to make some feuds otherwise we're just watching Cena vs Cena saying I respect the hell out of ya and I don't care who fight next and I'm here for the UFC universe!

I agree with you that he is blessed, but he hasn't tested the stand of time. He has essentially only fought 4 top fighters. True champions need to be tested, like Silva in Sonnen vs Silva I.
GSP is unique out of the 3 PFP as he got tested early in his championship before he became a dominant champion.
The official came and wiped him off before the fight even began. Are you saying they applied more during the break after Round 1? lol
Well the presser is broken, as ufc is tweeting out what they're saying.
The card wasn't great.
Sonnen is an idiot for trying that spin.
What's the controversy? I just got home. That knee was right to the center of the chest. Chael didn't have any complaints this time, neither did the ref.
NASCAR drivers have more media personality than most of these guys.
How does that happen?
He may be GOAT, but for someone who seemed to be trying to speak about how important the sport was at the end there, he sure attempted to employ dirty tactics. From bumping Sonnen, to shoulder checking, to greasing, to short grabbing and the questionable knee. The fact is that Anderson da Silva just shot himself in the foot. Not you too, Ply.
SAY IT AIN'T SO
Yeah man, I wonder who is going to be Bones version of Chael Sonnen...he needs one! Lol!
I can't see no one getting close to him right now. It would be really great to see him really work for a win. He makes everyone looks so easy.
Machida had a good first round against him and then was just utterly destroyed.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about MMA culture (I'm an expert since Pride), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in wrestling where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in MMA, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the casual MMA public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase PPV's for either fighter, nor will they purchase any of UFC's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Silva has alienated an entire market with this move.
Anderson, publicly apologize and end your championship reign or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Hogan's title defenses were all shoots, brother. What does Pro Wrestling have to do with MMA?
Tito wants to be a movie star.

:Lol. Something's wrong Nascar guys know how to build up their races and actually have some feuds compared to UFC guys.
NASCAR drivers have more media personality than most of these guys.

It's so safe. Everything is so safe. Joe Silva books safe fights where nobody gets too far ahead with a win or falls too far behind with a loss. The fighters fight so safe because they misguidedly believe they're lucky to even be there in the house that Randy, Tito, and Chuck built. They say the safest things because they want to be seen as classy gentlemen worthy of blue chip sponsorships. Everything is just so goddamn safe.
Silva grabbed Sonnen's shorts for a while. Silva got a warn because of that. Outside that, nothing, just the same whine you'll get after the fight from the losers. =)
That's my point, Nelo.
That's why when someone says, "Good." when I say I have no further hooks into the sport as a casual and may "retire", I honestly don't get that reaction.
I'm sure the UFC would like to grow the brand, not have it trend the same numbers.
He wants to give him a UFC sponsorship.Dana repping Silva hard. Goat.
