Cormier vs Jones is much more intriguing to me because I don't think Jones can take Cormier down whereas I think Cormier can take Jones down if he can get inside. I mean dude ragdolled Josh Barnett. Also, in this case, they genuinely do not like each other.

There is literally no-one on the planet right now who considers Gus to be a challenge to Jones in any way. Combine this with Jones' dominance and natural athleticism and if Gus wins it'll be considered the greatest upset in the history of the UFC.

And no-one even knows who this Wineland guy is. If he wins it'll just be another collective "meh" regarding 135 and he'll be immediately fed to Faber in order to get the UFC's ideal champion.

No-one cares and as such there's no narrative to build from stripping him of the title.

If anything, Cruz himself should have willingly relinquished the title. Because going from a fucked ACL and two years of ring rust straight into a fight with a guy like Barao is tempting a nomination for a Darwin award.
 
Menjivar vs Reis is probably the best matchup outside of the top two fights.

EDIT: aaaand Menjivar is one lb over weight. Has 2 hours to lose it.

Yeah he is battle tested for sure and on a nice little run but going against a hungry 25 year old 20-0 fighter is always an uphill battle. May lay down some coin on Healy to get the W though.

Betting on Schaub to beat Mitrione as well. Schaub apparently showed some stellar grappling at Metamoris and Mitrione got grapple fucked by Kongo of all people.
 
Uncle Dana would probably kill himself if Jones loses. 205 division would be as relevant to the masses as the bantamweights

The UFC is clutching at straws with this size narrative. As in: Stephan Bonnar is the same height as Jones and has an 80" reach as well.

That said, looking at both Jones and Gus makes me want to work out. I'm as tall as Gus and weigh around 220-240lbs. And not a good 220-240lbs either.

You mean just as 185 became irrelevant after Anderson lost?

When dominant champions lose, the entire division gets a boost. Because all the top fighters in the division suddenly realise that they've got a shot.

Jones will use his speed and athleticism to bully Gus to the ground where he will elbow him into oblivion.

Gus' only hope is hanging on in there and landing some good counters while standing. But if this fight makes it out of the first round I'll be really surprised.

lol a stiff breeze can KO Schaub and all the BJJ in the world can't stop that.

Also, BJJ under the threat of strikes doesn't really work for Schaub apparently, just look at his fight with Lavar Johnson.

If Anderson loses to Weidman in the rematch the subsequent PPV buyrates are going down the shitter. Take it to the bank, he was the draw there just like Jones is the draw at 205.

Yeah I'm not predicting a sub or anything like that. I'm expecting a toss up but at +130 its not too bad. Could be lights out for either guy but I say Schaub has an advantage with his grappling.

Huh? Jones finished him in the 4th round which is 20 min, Gus didn't finish Shogun. It was actually a pretty competitive fight. Gus clearly winning though.

I wouldn't be if I were you. Jones hasn't gone for a quick finish in awhile. I think he feels like he's already established his dominance and would rather get a bit of a workout and give the fans something to watch. The only way I see Jones trying to end this faster than usual is if he feels Gus is actually being a threat. I also think he'll use stand up unless/until he isn't getting the better of the exchanges.

It's pretty obvious that Jones & Can will be the only ones to survive the 2013 champ culling. GSP is getting laid out (by Ruthless Robbie Lawler stepping up on 2 weeks notice), Aldo will get stripped for refusing to fight $Chad$, Cruz will get stripped for having Shogoon legs, 125 will fold because it's embarrassing and Honda goes to Hollywood.
