Now we can put all this talk of Cain being the GOAT behind us. Werdum has really excelled, beating the true GOAT in over a minute does that to you.

Heres a bizarre stat for you

Wedum subbed Cain. Subbed Fedor. Yet in their last fight Overeem was on the ground with him for 3 rounds and was never even in danger of being subbed.

Wut

Kinda figured that would be the outcome, two of Cain's biggest advantages (his wrestling and cardio) were neutralized by his opponent and the altitude. Along with the injuries and two year absence from the octagon.

I don't wanna see an immediate rematch, I'd like to see Werdum vs JDS and Cain vs Stipe.

I like Werdum, but he looked pretty meh tonight. Cain was just awful.
Are you kidding me? Werdum was obviously pacing himself for championship rounds. He didn't do anything foolish. He used his long reach and the attitude until Cain was gassed. Then Cain did what wrestlers do, go back to their strength and go for a takedown. Exactly as Werdum's camp planned for. Shit was brilliant and executed to perfection.

Father Body Freddy Lenko laughin' in the rear view at these flops.

I thought Overeems background in MMA was BJJ before he bulked up and started taking up K1? Either way his ground game is really underrated.

what a fucking joke cain is by not listening to his trainers and basic science and moving camp like werdum did. they shouldn't even have let him, they should have insisted.

that wasn't even cane that was fat cane!!!

just as an example im in the bay area and have been training hard since last december to rehab after ankle reconstruction, broke stuff and ripped my guts out so it was months of rehab before i could hike which is what i have been doing.

so were at sea level basically. i have a hike i built up to that is my typical hike that tops out about 4300 feet. it took me months but i got to the point where i could go halfway on this 10 mile route, take my lunch break then do the other half, even run some downhill stretches. At first there were many breaks, i needed more water, i was huffing and puffing, etc.

so i did get settled in to this route, but nowhere close to 2 weeks.

when i venture out like i did once for a few weeks in a row to another place and we would go to 7000ft and above it was a completely different experience and we started out at a few thousand feet.

the impact was right away and again we were in no way used to this in a couple of weeks. there were many times we had to stop and take breaks just to catch our breath. its not fun when you are huffing and puffing and don't feel like you are catching up, instead of finding your pace and maintaining it.

its suicide what he did, then a terrible coach telling him to take werdum down sloppily to give him his neck and the fight.

what the hell is the point of having coaches if they can't put their damn foot down with the top paid trainers, etc. and tell the fighter what to do.

i think cain mauls him in the rematch if he prepares right.

Totally agree. The success of Wedum is kind of putting into perspective just how damn underrated Overeems ground game and top control are. He completely neutralized Wedum in their last fight on the mat.

Werdum was a little gassed himself and slow as shit. He's looked much better than that before. Cain was absolutely shot in the 2nd round. It was just a bad fight where neither guy was impressive.

Overeems chin fails him. He's ground game is known to be good.

But it took less than a minute for Werdum to submit that fraud.

The GOAT passed the baton in the twilight of his career to make light work of PRIDE's lessor, that mess UFC.

Freddy chillin' on Vadim's island getting his ass smacked with pine branches by his drunk priest in a sauna, laughin' at UFC's missed opportunity to co-promote with the powerful M-1 Global.

No, he was a kickboxer, but you are probably confused by his his multiple wins of European grappling tournies and multiple wins by guillotine early in Pride.

If anyone is going to pretend that the 2 year layoff and the lack of preparation (his fault) for the high altitude are not to blame for his performance, you're lying to yourself.

Oh I agree, its just the more wicked subs Wedum gets the more impressed I am with Overeems top control. His top game is pretty fucking great and heavy

At that point he was Ubereem on horse meat so he was throwing people around for fun! It would be great to see him finally in a UFC title fight now that he tucks his chin more under the tutelage of Sensei Jackson.

Any version of Fedor would have been beaten by Werdum and beat into a cyclops by TRT filled Big Foot. He's made a career of beating UFC has-beens, giants with zero MMA knowledge, and two wins over Nog who took on the entire HW murderers row despite not even being champ.

Yep when you think about it he did the same to Mir on the ground as well though. Roids will help but they wont give you the skills to totally neutralize amazing BJJ Black Belts guards. Overeem has a nasty ass top control

All this while having the Avatar of a dude who talked himself into a title shot. :p

Bigfoot doesn't count, literally secreted milk like a new mother after coming off the cocktail of experimental favela gas.

Father Body Fedor would beat both Cain and Cro Cop's Jiu Jitsu coach in his prime, deep in the belly of Saitama, fighting to the beat Inoki-san half naked banging on a taiko drum.

Don't deny this truth any longer. Fedor is the greatest. OSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Can anyone explain to me, what Cain tried to do here?

Is it normal to get a good double leg by running directly into your opponent like that? Aren't you supoosed to do a step-out and charge from the side? It looks like to me that Werdum got the guillotine (and closed guard) by Cain practically giving it to him. Werdum is a extremely high level grappler, but this looked like suicide by sprawl attempt.

I am not judging, but my own double legs suck ass so I feel for cain. Guillotines are real. It's the moment of truth when you are stuck in one of these things. Your head feels like qork screw being ripped open with your jaw being crushed first.

Cains coaches were urging him to take werdum down. So he just went for it without thinking about the consequences.

You can power double straight in like that. You want to do it though when an opponent is completely off guard and its also probably a pretty poor decision to shoot that kind of a double on someone like Wedum

cain did the mma equivalent of suicide by cop, yes.

he just wants to go eat a torta in valhalla

You mean, just power through it and get to some form of side control?

I say the bolded is the main culprit here... his own damn fault, stupid... stupid Cain.

Did you guys bringing up Overeem vs Werdum even watch their fight? It was a joke. I attended that event (Dallas, SF Gran Prix 2011). Werdum kept pulling guard and Overeem just stood over him not jumping into it. Atrocious fight, a giant stalemate battle.

Anyway, Cain looked gassed a minute into this bout. It was really bizzare. Without discrediting Werdum, this altitude was a huge deal cardio wise. Cain was only there 14 days while Werdum was there for 40 days. Cain was known as a cardio machine who never slowed down (Cain vs JDS 2 and 3), and tonight he looked winded within a minute into the first round. Cain got cocky during camp and severely underestimated the high altitude.

On the bright side, this really brings life to the HW Division, Werdum is an active fighter. Five years ago I would have lol'd if someone told me "Werdum vs Arlovski for the HW belt will possibly go down in 2015".

Fedor got decimated by CroCop standing and had to rely on LnP to get the job done. To the point CroCop started attempting triangles out of sheer boredom. Fedors sambo is near useless against Werdum. He wouldn't even make it out of the first with the Cain from today nor would he even survive an Inoki slap with that marshmallow chin of his.

This is par for the course for Cain.

The truth is that his technique has always been garbage. He's been competing in a weak division and getting by on his ability to pressure fighters early into fights and exploiting their inability to cope with it. Those fighters either fold (Lesnar) or gas themselves out trying to keep pace. It's a smart strategy for a HW, but that does not equate to having a polished skillset.

I'm extremely pleased to see Cain drop the belt. Not only can the division move forward, but the championship immediately gets elevated in prestige to the level of other divisions'. Werdum's striking has come a long way in recent years and he's been an elite BJJ practitioner for his entire MMA career. For that matter, look at every fighter in the UFC's HW top five rankings. (for what they're worth) Every one of those fighters possess apparent elite skill(s). Cain has "cardio" and reinforces the divisional moniker garbageweight -- that it's just big dudes doing toughman shit, pushing each other around like stags, and throwing with wreckless abandon.

Hope to see Cain get lit up by Stipe next (decade) and he's kept far away from a title shot.

I remember thinking it was really lame. Werdum made himself look like a fool and Overeem didn't do anything.

Yeah, he will actually fight again this year. If Cain won we would have to wait at least a year, likely 2 when he would inevitably injure himself. Werdum will end up fighting either JDS or Arvloski. I think it will probably be at the year end card. I'd say go with Arvloski, just because seeing him get a title shot in 2015 would be awesome. Maybe put JDS and Overeem in a no.1 contender bout, since that fight was supposed to happen 2 years ago.

Werdum would crush Overeem in 2015. When they fought 4 years ago Werdum had shit standup. He has made so much progress since 2011.
