It'll be interesting to see how Rousey responds after this. She looked like she was totally outmatched to me, like Holm is just too much for her. That makes whatever may come from a possible (hopefully guaranteed) rematch all the more exciting. I didn't end up buying this fight, but I'm for damn certain buying the rematch.

UFC 198 or something should be Rousey vs Cyborg, with the winner getting a title shot against Holm for UFC 200.

Man, look at that face. It says everything. Her mind must be going at a thousand miles per hour.

Hope she bounces back. That rematch could be absolutely amazing.

Just dropping in real quick to post my thoughts and reflect on the fight. I was too aggressive to begin with and was looking to get that arm bar too quickly. Holly is a boxer and is built for distance fighting. She controlled the pace of the fight and kept me out of my comfort zone. Holly was the better fighter that night and deserved the victory. I have a lot to work on and I'm excited to return to the gym and push myself further than I ever have before. I'll be back, and better than ever.

I want the rematch. Somebody gonna die that night.

Looking forward to it!

Honestly one positive thing Rousey can take from this is that shes not afraid of getting hit. She was getting tagged nasty yet she kept coming forward.

What she needs to do for the rematch is get with a wrestling coach to train more leg takedowns.

Hail to the KING baby
It's actually kind of impressive what she was able to pull off with such a terrible coach. Basically relying entirely on her judo and also just poor competition. Kind of bums me out all those wasted years though training Targeryan Boxing because I do think she's a fierce competitor (sometimes distastefully so, but eh) and a hard worker but it seems to have mostly been wasted.

Yeah, Rogan called him out on it. Instead of giving her tips, he just straight up lied to her and said that everything she did was perfect.

Ronda doesn't have good footwork and was not trained to take a boxing beating, wasn't expecting that much of a kickboxing beating and the few instances she got she clinched hoping to get a sub, she was just heavily outclinched and even so she doesn't need tips on how to sub someone even at a position disadvantage. When you have little gas (which quickly goes down to zero if you can't take a beating) and your only means of winning is a submission, all you can do is rush at your opponent, guard yourself while taking the obvious hits and hope you can catch her before she knocks you out. Her punching and kicking doesn't reach as far as Holm's, even if you told her "you also move around avoiding her hits" she would still get blown to pieces. It just looked like a total mismatch no matter how you make it sound like.

Looking at both side by side and I really wonder what made Ronda such an overwhelming favorite. Holly is taller and is more physically imposing, and it's not like she has a shit resume either.
Ronda had been undefeated in mma and other than the one Miesha Tate fight had previously never gone past the first round. Time wise her entire career could pretty much fit within one Demetrious Johnson fight. She not only defeated all her opponents but dominated them and did whatever she wanted. Conversely, Holly was hyped up big time before signing to UFC but her fights in the UFC were underwhelming at best. She damn near lost to Raquel Pennington who, not to be mean, is terrible. Also, Holly's striking - which is her bread and butter - looked rudimentary and tentative in her two previous UFC fights. So needless to say, it was somewhat of a surprise that Ronda lost. Holly came out guns a blazing and had a great game plan and just stymied Rousey. Not to mention I think there was a bit of a Silva/Weidman thing going on here where Rousey already had the win counted and was ready to take a break or go to movies. I dont think she expected a challenge and probably didn't prepare for this as well as she could of. Plus she had a lot of distractions going in - particularly revolving around her coach.

Dana had a good point about Edmond, - The strategy had worked in all of Rondas fights so far. Think about it. Her gameplan is always pure barrage, use her Judo and get a sub.
I'm not defending the guy, but I think he cares about Ronda. A lot.

There has been many grapplers who have not been salvageable by striking. And many striking specialists who just can't hang with the best sub defense. These upsets happen from to time and they always spawn a "is wrestling useless?", "is grappling more important than striking?" < It's always this back and forth between the styles, and in this fight Rondas brow was not doing it.

It reminds me of Wanderlei. Wanderlei was one of those guys who also just barraged in like a fucking demon. And not until he faced Mark Hunt after a long dominating spree in Pride were he took outrageous amount of punishment did he lose his spark.

It's possible Rondas confidence will never recover from this. I think she needs to take a long break and try to re-examine herself. Fedor, her big idol always championed that small dogs bark the loudest.
At the same time its weird seeing people who have a hard-on for Connor feel vindication by her smacktalk. So many UFC fighters talk so much shit to heighten the drama. It's not needed IMO. Unless you are Chael Sonnen.

Her past fights have gone a) grab/clinch b) take-down c) armbar. This time around it looked like she was testing her boxing but was getting schooled on the feet, then got desperate but it was too late and she was too tired/damaged to grapple effectively.

I hope, for the rematch, they cut a new promo where old Ronda invents a time machine to bring young Ronda to see present day Ronda get tuned and then returns to the past to start boxing and then in the rematch Ronda does in fact outbox Holly and it turns out young Ronda is in the stands watching all along. Shivers.

I would like to believe Ronda is so arrogant she probably wouldn't even follow advice coming from herself.

Da fuck? I have never heard a single bad word about Firas.

I have NEVER heard anyone call Firas a prick ever. Dude.

Personal problems?

I've heard a few stories about how he's a asshole and how he's full of himself to people who come see him or recognize him in Montreal. I mean, it's anecdotal, but what isn't when you hear shit about people? "a fucking prick" was actually kind compared to what I've heard lol.
Having a bad day isn't a good excuse.

Anyway, who gives a shit. What happens behind the screen might as well not exist huh. Guy knows his stuff and that's what he's there for, I respect him as a coach and if I were to know him more in the futur I might respect him as a person too, but it ain't the case right now, so I judge from what I hear from people I trust.

"Oh, I don't know," Mayweather said when asked about Rousey's loss in Australia. "I don't speak on nobody's situation."

"Just in boxing period, contact sports period, you win some, you lose some," Mayweather said Sunday at Staples Center, where he watched a Los Angeles Lakers-Detroit Pistons NBA game. "I don't know about this fight, I just know that you win some and you lose some. It basically comes with the territory."

That looks to me more like she had no chances. Holm did her homework and effectively stopped Rousey from playing her game.

Edmond learned his striking techniques watching Rocky, y’all don’t understand Ronda totally nailed that move where Rocky flails face first into the ropes missing apollo completely.

audio/video of Rousey just after the K.O.

she's never really experienced that kind of technical out before, but she's got a strong fucking chin, and shook off the confusion good. i think that's why holm kneeled beside her, no fighter wants to see someone go through that (plus holm is an awesome person). they both are.

fuck, what a historic fight.
