The first thing that needs cutting is pensioner entitlements for those that are sitting on loads of money. That stuff should be means tested. Only thing I like within the Tory manifesto. Also that triple lock needs to go.

Well they already scrapped large parts of Inheritance Tax that would have redistributed wealth after they kick the bucket.

Even if all the rich pensioners get Dementia Taxed that money doesn't go to the Treasury instead it goes to Private Care Providers.

What a riot, Wokingham is one of the worst funded authorities in the UK

The rest of the leaflet is an attack on Corbyn and Redwood gushing over Brexit

That isn't what the role of an MP is either. MPs have basically no power over government funding even when their IS in power. I do think people fail to understand how utterly powerless the vast majority of MPs are.

One wonders how Jacob Rees-Mogg is that insane. He said he hopes that May will return as a "21st century Gloriana" or some shit.

People like Jacob Rees-Mogg will be comfortable no matter what happens. He can afford for the UK to go to shit.

That's whats sick in all of this you have millionaires and billionaires playing with everyday peoples lives like it's a sick game.

Theresa has done it again:

Was scheduled to appear on Women's hour on Radio 4 tomorrow morning (other party leaders have done so this week - probably heard about Corbyn's Interview earlier in the week due to overblown coverage) but has declined.
Justine Greening is the new Amber Rudd and will go in her place.

It looks like the Tories are claiming Rudd was always going to do the interview but is now unavailable so is being replaced by Justine Greening.

This substitution just brings Theresa May's scrutiny dodging into light.

Plays well for the ignorant I guess. Not sure why he thinks that's a good thing to put down as he's been MP here for decades and council services are sliding downhill

I kind of ignore the financial stuff in the economist. bit ridic given it's name but the foreign affairs and science and technology stuff is decent.

anyone want to recommend any decent sites/magazines on foreign affairs?

The FT do quite a bit of good foreign reporting at times.

I love the economist, been subscribing for a few years now. It's the embodiment of that mythical 'socially liberal, financially conservative' stance - they had a cover arguing for gay marriage back in the 90s, before most of the gay community was onboard with it.

They aren't even that right wing economics wise, it's more 'free trade good' rather than the typical right wing viewpoint. They were against austerity for example, both in the Uk and Europe. They backed Obamas stimulus.

Ruth Davidson getting destroyed on BBC Scotland for the horrid Tory disability cuts and assessments.

Shaky when she can't just shout SNPBAAD at everything.

I actually can't recall an election where the leaders of all the notable parties are actually worse than their predecessors. It's quite fascinating really.

Andre Neil despises Farron

He hates all Liberal Democrats. He walked around LD conference when Campbell was elected president and asked who LD members would vote for when he stepped down for being too old.

So all Farron did was ignore Neil's attempts to badger him, which is somewhat cathartic as someone who's watched him shout down LDs for about a decade.

Interesting how these leaflets change around the country.

Also the bit about raising the retirement age - pretty sure every government everywhere is going to have to do that repeatedly as people start living so long they spend more time retired than working!

you'd be wrong. Automation is already on its way and will render the current model irrelevant.

Plus no way around doing that age change without increasing unemployment.

I was really pleased with Leanne Wood during the debate for bringing up the public sector pay freeze for 7 years - and that hasn't affected MPs at all, neither the top earners in those sectors. In it together though right. Tories don't seem to realise that it's people working who are using food banks. Our NHS trust exec Heather Tierney Moore has just had another pay rise. She's also an odious twat.

Look at how messed up Scottish Politics is. Scottish Labour and Lib Dems actively working to keep Theresa May in office.

https://stv.tv/news/politics/1390070-unionist-parties-working-against-snp-in-key-seats/

STV News understands all three parties are deploying the tactic in target areas including Edinburgh South, Edinburgh West, Perth and North Perthshire, East Lothian and Moray.

All bar one of these seats, Edinburgh South, was won by the SNP in 2015's general election when they took 56 of Scotland's 59 constituencies.

A senior Conservative source said it was "not a formal arrangement" between the parties but the "reality of the situation" on the ground was they were, in effect, helping each other in certain seats.

Didn't realise there was anything on, how did the whole thing go? Aye she's usually pretty dodgy if she can't blame everything on Sturgeon/The SNP.

Called out on her flip flops on Brexit with clips showing she would accept Brexit with Freedom of Movement retained.

Struggled to defend Theresa May as Strong and Stable

Disabled questioners showing the real consequences of Conservative's assessment outsourcing. Ruth did the typical politician thing and said she would take details and look into it. Going to be there a while when up to 20% of assessments are wrong.

Then she got hammered on the rape clause in the government's child benefit cuts for demonising victims and making them beg for support.

She's good at appealing to unionist voters who don't want #indyref2, and utterly unconvincing and clearly uncomfortable having to defend her Westminster policies

The worst part was when she tried to act as if job centres were getting all these new advisors in to help people with PIPs, thankfully an audience member called her out on this bullshit when in actual fact job centres in Scotland are being closed brutally
