Mom just came back from voting and told me which party box she put her tick in...

Still, always better than not voting.

I haven't voted yet, will be going after work, but it will be for Labour. I have successfully managed to convince my parents to also vote for Labour. I am in shock.

My old man always votes Tory and my mum just kind of follows suit. But they were really unhappy at the EU referendum result (they are remainers and feel the Conservatives gambled a decent future for the country in return for votes) and outlining Tory policy versus Labour sealed the deal.

I know it's anecdotal but a lot of Conservative voters in my office are flipping to Labour (or at least saying they are). Being in Kent means it's unlikely to amount to anything, but it's interesting to see the damage done to the Tories through their own campaign from a (small) subset of former supporters.

Fun times. Good luck! The closest to "journalism" I do is posting news stories on a wrestling website, but at least I got to post that Wrestlemania Corbyn V May promo and tell people to go vote.

Cheers! It'll be good fun. Hoping to finish at around 5/6am and get back home in time for breakfast!

I'm really intrigued to see how it plays out, though I'm expecting the Conservatives to win out in the end.

Anyone else going to the counts tonight? There's always a few voters who like to experience it first hand.

Went out and voted Labour. Tried to convince a coworker to go out and vote but she "didn't know enough about it". Idiot.
Such a common, sensible yet incredibly baffling view. If you care enough to not vote because you don't know enough then surely you could have spent some time to read up and form an opinion?

The voting will stay open for another 8 hours, it's enough to form a general opinion even if you take out the remaining working hours in the day.

Still counts right? My wife told me they had a long deliberation at the 2015 election count regarding whether or not a ballot with a nob drawn in one of the boxes should count as a vote. It was accepted in the end.

Although you are meant to mark with an X, generally the count leaders/officers on the night will accept any clearly legible mark that is inside a box.

(At least, they have done when I've worked as count assistant.)

I feel very detached from our country as a whole right now even if there's plenty of us willing to work for everyone and not just their own interests. Pretty heartbreaking really.

Same, i'm in a solid Tory/UKIP/BNP constituency so i've no hope of a tactical vote being of any use even if every Labour/LibDem voter conspired and voted for one party :(

Obviously, I'm still going to vote but i've no illusions anything will improve over the next few years unfortunately.

Same, a tactical vote won't work in my constituency.

It's very difficult for the average person to get facts. Increasingly by design.

Really? I wasn't aware of that. I was under the impression it has to be one cross and that's it.

Wait so that's how the Tories keep getting in?! They keep counting the cocks :p

That's actually amazing though I wish that person knew

You can imagine the thought process...

"I hate all of these bastards, but I especially hate this guy so much, I'm going to draw a cock in his box, really send a message to the establishment with my spoilt ballot."

How detailed was it? If it was some lazy half arsed effort it shouldn't count.

Really? I wasn't aware of that. I was under the impression it has to be one cross and that's it.

The ballot paper says put a cross, but the rules state that returning officers can exercise discretion where ”they are satisfied that a preference has been expressed". It's a judgement call.

I've been tempted to write "I don't want to vote for any of the candidates" entirely within one box, but unless you're on the count you wouldn't get to find out which way they decided.

Edit:

lol yeah that guy may have actually been trying to spoil their ballot but inadvertently ended up casting a vote instead!

Enjoying being on a table next to some champagne socialists drinking G&T at the rate of 4 per hour on an extended lunch. Sounds like they're doing the right thing later though!

Anecdotal evidence incoming.

So I've never voted before and wanted to vote Labour cos NHS is important.

Got in to booth and it had local MPs and it spun me out, I was looking for the boy Corbyn, voted Labour anyway.

Came out and messaged my group chat of mates and none of them had any idea we were going to be voting local MPs despite all of them (and everyone I know) going on FB and telling everyone to vote labour over and over.

Turns out our tactical vote is for Green to get Tories out.

I can't be the only person who was confused by this, despite everyone being a politician Im sort of worried that nobody actually knows what they are doing?

You never get to vote for the party leader (unless you're in their seat), I'm not sure where you or your friends got this idea.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Voted, but I have never voted for the winning side in any election / referendum ever. Hopefully today will be different. (I live in a strong Tory area, so unlikely. Oh well, I tried.)

Just came back from voting for the SNP here in Motherwell and it is pouring outside, I am completely soaked.

Hopefully I represented the youth vote well and showed people that not all young voters are put off by rain.

Any major party that advocates PR gets my vote. I don't care if they're Conservative or Labour.
The problem with PR as far as I can see is that there is such a split in the country be it geographical or economical and PR would cause a hung parliament almost every time. That being said, it's a pretty shit reason not to listen to the majority voice.

Probably because he's never voted before, so either he is young and never had it explained properly, or he's old and never paid attention before.

It genuinely worries me how many people I've had to explain this concept to.

But it's much better that the compromise comes after the election than before it, no more tactical voting and maybe a few more viable political parties would be nice.

Instant-Runoff Voting doesn't count, and you know it. Come back when you're onto Mixed Member Proportional or Single Transferrable Vote (in the house that actually matters).

It counts and it's much better than FPTP but obviously it could be much better. NZ has MMP and I wish we had it here but we never will.

EU scum here, so cant vote - but thanks to everyone voting non Conservative, for thinking people like me have a right to stay in the country

A hung parliament would force the ruling party to actually consider their opponents though - I think that would be a generally good thing

Certainly than the farcical idea of tactical voting and safe seats anyway. At least each vote would actually count

To be fair when I was 18 during the 2005 election most of my friends had no concept of first past the post or how government is elected in this country. A lot of them were surprised they couldn't just vote for Tony Blair or Howard (though most didn't vote at all)

In the last election my seat got 22k Tory votes, 16k Labour. Not really sure about figures, would this be considered a safe Tory seat or could enough people change this?
