Funny how accurate the exit poll is turning out to be. Scarily accurate, in fact.

I'm sure they have at least a couple of statistics PhD's to calculate the right number of people to survey. There's a political polling company in Australia called Newspoll that gets its results nearly spot on despite only surveying 1000 people before an election.

So how many more seats do Lib-Lab need to form a coalition?

A reminder of 2005's results:

Labour - 356
Conservative - 198
Liberal Democrat - 62

The Tories are ballin'.

This looks ridiculously close.

Conservatives - 271
Labour/LD - 269

83 seats left.

I'll be straight up and say that it's not happening. We're going to have a Tory minority government.

Clegg looks a bit crestfallen unsurprisingly. Interested to hear what he's got to say about tonight.

it's a devastating loss for the lib dems. down in some big seats thanks for the tories - evan harris goddamit- and only 0.5% more of the vote nationally. after what they were polling in the days before, along with the perfect storm of the recession, expenses and the debate playing into their hands; them being rejected speaks very gravely about the level of tribal bullshit in this country and the unwillingness to embrace liberal policies. i'm really depressed.

I completely and utterly agree.

Erm Unless they get pass the 326 number ballin' this is not....

I meant in reference to their 2005 result.

And unless something strange happens they won't need that 326 number. The Labour/LD combined numbers won't be enough.

Labour are only 50 seats behind

who would've thought that 2 months ago

It boggles my mind that only a couple of months ago a conservative majority was considered a certainty.

And Z would not have gotten any without his dough, he's fooling nobody.

Who can say what they'll need. It would require a deal and that wouldn't make for a strong government.

The reality is with the DIRE political landscape as it was, the Tories couldn't even limp over the line. Again not Ballin' at all....

The "ballin'" statement was contrasting their current numbers to the previous ones. Nothing more, nothing less.

The Tories are heading for a minority government.
