Ultra Street Fighter IV |OT| What is old is new once again

I don't like training, I guess. From my online experience, people seem to execute it easily in the heat of a battle, but sadly I can only spectate in awe and rely on mind games.

I don't get (but really respect) how you guys can stand playing Guy online.

I pick Akuma or Yun when I actually feel like winning. So far my ratio with Guy is decent, but it's always been that way for me with Guy. I love the character, but I'm not that hardcore of a specialist that I will forgo more viable options.

I think he's finally starting to use some things unique to Evil Ryu and applying them in matches. Before all we saw was his standard Ryu play being moved over to his Evil Ryu. He played as basic as possible. In some ways he still does.

Chun is one of those characters that Evil Ryu can tatsu sweep but Daigo never goes for it. In fact he doesn't attempt it against any of the other characters Evil Ryu can tatsu sweep. I think he is missing out on potentially getting more damage and stunning his opponents quicker. But that's always been his style so I don't blame him for not changing it now.

A lot of Japanese players stopped playing that kind of SF4 (based on hard knockdown setups) once USF4 hit. They don't want to directly deal with DWU, so they just don't go for those setups as often anymore.

Daigo's Evil Ryu has the right mix of a strong ground game and getting the extra damage out of combos without showboating to the point where you risk getting blown up. I also like the use of U1 and think it's probably superior to U2 (although a lot of people still opt for U2)

Occasionally I opt for the 4x axe kick combos, but by the end of it I realize how pointless it all was in comparison to shorter, easier combos.

Ultra PC is closing on startup, ugh. Anyone know why this might happen?

I get a fatal error: "Steam must be running to play this game." It clearly is, lmao.

There's an option to "verify game cache" or something, use it to see if there are busted files.

After a few days with Beta patch I see a small improvement but the game is still broken and crashes even more now than before, i was sitting in an endless lobby waiting for my turn watching Balrog vs Cammy and the game crashed to the desktop, also happen a few times during matches i was winning..

Doesn't DP > DP do more damage anyway? I think he's forgoing a setup that can leave him in a bad position if his opponent delay wakeups in order to maintain pressure up close and get more immediate damage and stun. Then again, I'm not too sure what setups Evil Ryu gets off of sweep, but it'd need to be a 5 frame safe jump at the least to work on Chun.

It does, I'm talking about set play. I use always go for sweep if I can. Evil Ryu doesn't get any super dangerous mix up game but he has options. With no DWU he can go for jump ins that may or may not cross up with only a slight forward movement. And if his opponents does DWU, he can choose to empty jump or dive kick to stay in front. Or fake a empty jump and go into hop kick EX tatsu which does a ton of damage. This is what I go for all the time. And if it doesn't work, I can still get meaty pressure. But then again, I think I'm the only Evil Ryu doing this because I'm not seeing it from anybody else so far.

Hmm, haven't touched that version in over a month. But if you catch me at the right time I'll get on to play you.

I'm dropping Yang, I'm not sure why I suck so much as him :( I'll just focus on Makoto and Chun. It's like his moveset simply doesn't "click" with me for some reason.

A shame because I really dig his new outfit!

This is kinda an embarrassingly basic thing but I played a bit of SSFIV and I'm looking to get back into Ultra. Where do folks go just to get some basic combo / normals info on different characters. The SRK wiki for Ultra doesn't seem populated at all from the characters that I looked at. And in the SRK forums you just have a ton of loose threads to sift through looking for the info needed. Anyone have a place for nicely formatted / organized character info?

I have to test this more, but I think a well timed dive-kick handles DWU really well. In a lot of online matches, I end up hitting peoples' feet because they used DWU and thought I was going to land.

I agree with you on Daigo, though. It looks like he's actually starting to play Evil Ryu.

Look for the combo thread sticky in the SRK character forums. I'm pretty sure they all have one. Sometimes they do have stupid names, though.

The Brady Games Ultra Bible has a ton of good information for players of all skill levels. It's useful if you ever need quick, physical access to combo and frame data without having to browse around on the internet.

So I picked up the disc and got the pre-order dlc...are there costumes I don't currently own? I saw a costume '!' when playing a chun li earlier??

Red focus makes U2 SO valuable though. If someone has 3 bars, you suddenly have to be VERY scared. Just yesterday I won 3 matches in a row that I had no business winning just because of red focus and U2. I wasn't surprised when the dude rage quit and sent me hatemail.
You are not alone- this is a big reason why they put in RFCs.
Too bad they used a really stupid ass button combination for it.

Some new costumes just released.

You don't have the summer package (which was recently released) and the 2nd costume of the new characters (you need a X Tekken savefile for it).

I just map the button people usually use for all punches as my red focus.

What are you pairing with red focus? Axe kick hit confirm? I mostly use U2 as an anti-air or trap type of scenario; but I like U1 because I play a really, really meter hungry Evil Ryu.. despite saying 4x axe kick combos are pointless - I still do them. I think it's the only reason I play him, really.

Yeah, Axe kick. It's so simple and it leads into a ridiculous amount of damage since it doesn't scale much.

That's a cool idea, gonna try that in training.

Eventhubs has data for characters and moves and such, though the depth and up-to-date-ness is very varying. But it a start...

I just don't understand why they didn't just make it HP+HK

Because Dan.

Some guy left me hanging on the screen for stage select... for over 5 minutes. Fix the fucking PC version already capcom, ranked is so so bad..

If anyone wants to add me in steam for games: killdatninja (main: juri, secondary: claw/boxer).

Edit: I forgot the main reason I even posted.. I couldn't even exit the game to the main menu. I just straight up had to windows explorer and close that bitch down (ruining my mood to play ranked right now).

The thing is that I don't want to put myself in position to get DP'd on wake up. When the opponent doesn't use DWU, those timed jump ins are very hard to DP. They can be, but you have to wait till the last possible second. When they do use DWU, you can choose to make your empty jump cross over or not and it it does cross over a mashed DP from the previous side shouldn't come out. The only one that can get DP'd is using his dive kick to react to DWU. But I try to condition them with the empty jumps first before using that option.
