UMVC3: Phoenix Wright and Nova Revealed!

Her main flaw is that she's just flat out harder to use than a lot of the top characters and that's the main flaw of mvc3 in general. A great x-23 is pure bullshit though and her fucking crazy ass hitboxes will fuck over his approaches from any direction.

Let me just say there are only a few of the cast that can do a full combo to you behind them on the ground or air, and she is one of them. A true tribute to her hitboxes T.T

In all honesty if the game got to go on longer x-23 would of replaced wolverine on teams.

I dunno, the mix up game and damage for Wolverine are really good and remember he has 125k more health. That counts for quite a bit.

is firebrand able to block when he is in flight mode?
No one can block while flying, but if you play flyers enough you know how easy it is to drop out of the mode on reaction and just block.

Yeah, he's good as hell. Not saying otherwise, but her pay off for learning her in the long run is higher. He's just easier to get the max potential out of. Plus yeah more health for minor mistakes.

if firebrand is going to be as tough as q says then i better get my strategies together for him and the new teleport characters. wonder if taskmasters M will have enough priority over some of his move to punish him.

Unless they changed it, Taskmasters M should give him some trouble. Just don't forget that one of his flight mode inputs puts him above and behind you almost instantly if he is in your face. So if he gets in and get's an assist off be ready for mix up bullshit.

Vergil is going to be like Wolverine, he can teleport and troll you easily when you are on the ground but his air game is lackluster and if you use the usual Wesker air teleport runaway/fly around the screen tactics he's going to have a hard time catching you. Making running out XF against him easy. Which makes me seriously doubt his viability as an anchor.
How the HELL are you going to run away from a character with a TRACKING TELEPORT? Vergil has options to make runaway and zoning inconsequential.

Vergil's air game is limited but against most of the cast he doesn't even need it. If he desperately needs that air mobility he will go devil trigger mode. So many of Vergil's options are built around pinning down the opponent just like in DMC3 or just simply mixing them up.

I personally will not be playing Vergil anchor because I am just going to solo overwhelm with him but he CAN be used at the slot effectively. His air throws lead into full combos as well.

I don't disagree with all that as I also feel that X-23 is sleeper near top tier character but I just think Firebrand has superior air control and air mobility where he can just by pass the ground game. He can zone her effectively and hit confirm off of something dirty like Bon Voyage -> Luminous Body -> mix up 50/50. On the ground though, Firebrand is pretty much toast against X-23. In the air it depends on how X-23's new special cancels work.

His teleport works like Strange and Phoenix's teleports, the front and behind teleports only teleport him on the ground. Except that it's much slower than Strange and Phoenix's teleports and easier to avoid. The above the opponent teleport tracks the opponent on the air but that will be easy to predict and avoid.

I'm way late on this, but vanilla marvel team:

Day 1 team I will pick if I really want to win because I'm familiar with two of the characters already:

Day 1 team I will pick kind of as a joke, but hopefully it works:

Team 'I will probably drop she-hulk because she sounds pretty crap and pick someone to compliment strider/doom':

???? - Third spot is still a mystery. I didn't expect to like vanilla she-hulk, so who knows who will be fun in ultimate

Honestly, X-23 would of taken Logan's spot due to the fact 1 frame left/right and 1 frame hi/low with her would of been hell to guess and she doesn't lose to Haggar assist as hard. Since she can block from her mix up opportunity and much faster.

Not sure. X-23 still has a comparably high execution. It's much easier to have a pocket Wolverine with Berderper Slash and some basic combos, than put in the time into Laura and learn her properly to be on the same level as you'd be with Wolvie.

That alone would never have her replace Wolvie, unless there was some BS found on her.

Oh and firebrands worst match ups will be.

Ghostrider/Shuma/Strider/Dante/Hulk/Nemisis/.......... arthur/Zero/X-23
Skrull IMO.

Maybe I'm just biased from playing Phoenix on point so much, haha.

His worst matchup will be Storm/Hawkeye/Strange/Magneto/Dorm/Nova. Pretty much anyone that's going to able to take advantage of that stupid auto flight aspect of Firebrand to punish him easily while he's flying. In fact I can predict that those Gravity Squeezes are going to make a lot of people drop Firebrand quickly.
rofl

Also, Wolverine isn't just about his mix-up power. A large part of his popularity was the TOD XF1 combos that give you enough time to TOD the next incoming character, and X-23 does not have that. Wolverine ends matches fast.

X-23 can TOD an incoming character using the Jam Session/Dirt Nap set up though usually. Which leads to a dead character on non small characters since I believe she can do 510k on medium sized characters without another hyper.

So without XF she can kill off a good portion of the cast after an incoming kill.

So without XF she can kill off a good portion of the cast after an incoming kill.

She can't as easily TOD the initial character, though, and has to spend meter or X-factor at least. And then she'd need 3 meters for the incoming character. It's a nice setup, and a guaranteed kill for an oncoming character, but it's expensive.

Wolverine is cheap and fast.

X-23 pretty much has a guaranteed set up if she has the meter, Wolverine's set up isn't guaranteed but it's essentially a 50/50 and most people end up falling for it anyway. Wolverine doesn't even need some elaborate set up.

Also Wolverine is no longer going to be able to XF TOD with LVL1 and have enough juice to kill the next too. He will have to burn 2 meters for the LVL1 kill and will not have enough XF juice left for 2nd character.

As far as UMVC3 Wolverine vs X-23 is concerned, Wolverine is still going to dominate early on and is still going to be very good but may not win as many tournaments as before. People are going to be looking for better rushdown options and Jill/X-23/Felicia will be looked at more closely as the rewards for them all are about equal now. Before there was no reason to be using the rushdown only characters below Wolverine.

For those who didn't catch it last night I am now doing the statistical analysis survey for Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 that I mentioned doing for college.

I'll use the data from your votes to not only show the final voted rank for everyone, but also the average rank for each character, the range of ranks they vall in, most voted for assists, most common team characters, and any correlations between rankings and playstyle preference. You'll get a lot of data back on this once its done of that I can promise. You can change your votes if you so choose after any reveals and also after the game launches and I'll run comparative charts to show how rankings were effected by each.

Here is the link to the survey for all who want to answer its 9 short questions

If ever you wanted an accurate idea of how fans tier rank characters and what they will playing as the most go ahead and fill this out. Thank you to those who already have.

Major shoutouts to Dahbomb for compiling a list of all the assists for all the new cast for me last night. Its been incorporated into the survey for everyone's convenience. Thanks everyone.

I REALLY want to ask Seth if you can play H&H locally versus and still earn cards for 2 profiles signed in, but seeing as how MvC3 and their games at large don't even recognize the second player signed in, let alone track progression, it makes the chances look very grim ;_;

Also because this list is AWESOME and it'll probably need snatched for the Official thread later on (and for eventhubs lol) here is the assist list Dahbomb made.

Becquerrel listed the assist too, you should thank him as well.

You should check his list and cross reference mine. His seems to have the more correct names and ordering a well.

Iron Fist ones are not accurately named, I got them from the SRK thread. Others should be accurately named unless Max gave them his own nicknames.

Dang. Both of those lists are better than the scrubby one I have.

Shaowebb I'll do your survey in like 10 hrs when i get home.

Thanks everyone who has and will be doing this survey. This data will go a long way. If there are any questions you forget to do or anything else I'll pm you a message of what to add to keep the data all viable. Last thing I want is for you to go through all the trouble of doing all this only to have a simple mistake inviolate data or something.

Also, thats cool Smurfx. Just want to point out though that if anyone fills it out before reveals and then something is revealed that changes your ranks and choices you can pm me your changes because I specifically plan to run a comparative chart of how votes change after reveals and launch happens.I'll even send you a copy of your old data to overlook.

Thanks again to everyon for their time. These statistics are already proving interesting....VERY INTERESTING (a few surprises have cropped up from votes already).

I'm a little confused over Daggers/Discs of Denak. It sounds like Strange is clearly saying discs, but people keep writing daggers. Which is it?

It used to be Discs even with the voice over but it recently got changed to Daggers. You can check it in Max's videos.

I think Marvel gave Capcom a notice that they used the wrong spell name or something.

The spell, at least in the canon, is called "Daggers of Denak", but as Dahbomb pointed it out, they had the voiceover saying "discs".

Here's a lil article on Denak, with all exclamations that were used in Strange's vocabulary.

I'm loving all the support for this project guys. You're all awesome. Also shoutouts to Becquerel for dropping that Dr. Strange knowledge. I've missed most of his plot points over the years and its good to know we got a fan in here with us to sort out our questions.

Of course, Dr. Strange is one of my most favorite Marvel characters. :)
If he was part of the Cosmic Marvel lore, I'd probably be even more hype for him than I already am, lol.

Then again, there's Adam Warlock and the likes. Really hoping for him or Baron Mordo being Dr. Strange's alt costume.

Shaowebb is probably shocked that I rated Vergil
4 or less in some categories. Although rightfully so, his assists are good not great and he is the MVP on a team with some support to others. You are essentially making a team around him, not the other way around. Compared to someone like Strange who you can put into any team because of the versatility of his assists and he is solo reliant in both combos and set ups.

I don't know if this is the right way to rate stuff but this is how I interpreted it. It doesn't mean one character is better than the other.

im bored at work so im gonna post more teams. I also just filled out the survey and sent it in.
