UMVC3: Phoenix Wright and Nova Revealed!

I think Nova does have an air dash but I have only seen a forward/backward one.

I wonder if there is going to be a Maximillian breakdown video of these characters.

Phoenix looks fun as hell to play as, and Nova looks like he'll complement my style of play so he'll probably be a top choice for me. Really like what they did with Phoenix, though.

Phoenix and Phoenix better have a custom intro together.

There will be, he's doing them all, just not necessarily this week.

-Check Hsien-Ko for cancel capable pendulum. Just perform a pendulum in the air and press attack buttons to see what happens
-Check to see if she is stilll really floaty compared to her Vanilla MvC3 self
-Try her air dash and ground dash to see if they have improved
-Perform a few gongs to see if they've gotten any faster on recovery or startup
-Try gong inputs, pendulum inputs and item toss inputs with the S button to see if she got any new attacks
-Activate Gold Armor to see if her gold lasts longer than five seconds
-See if you can combo off air throw(harder to test so don't worry about it too much)

You can check all these things on your 360 before you leave so that you have a nice feel for the character when you do the gongs specifically.

Hopefully this weekend, otherwise no clue. Really looking forward to Frank too now, by the way. I recently got to play some TvC and he is really fun to play as. Not as hype as Rocky for me, but still. Last character reveal brothers.
 
I just realized how bad the airdash nerf hurts Morrigan. Her most used mode of transportation is her ground dash and it is mostly neutered since you can't block while in motion anymore. Sure she has the fastest jab in the game for fast cancels, but she doesn't have any good long range options and she has no choice, but to move in under the cover of soul fist. She used to be a solid anchor for me before because of how fast she was in XF3, but she is more or less dead in the water against fast characters or people who can punish her current ground dash approach with hypers...

This makes the omission of her old ground dash even stupider if you ask me...

Chireitou already(seemingly) got a buff in speed. Apparently you don't need ultra perfect timing to connect it anymore.

It was honestly unecessary. There are strong zoning teams in ultimate and they had gone far enough already. I'll be using beads a lot to compensate, but it was really an unecessary change.

I'm off to NYCC. I'll probably hit whatever Nintendo has first, but Ultimate is definitely right afterwards. Free day today, as there is no panels I want to check out, etc. I'm not a super deep fighter, but I'll see if I can gather at least somewhat of a good impression. So glad the build is actually there~
 
Apologies if it has already been mentioned, but the blue energy projectiles Phoenix Wright gets in his Attorney Badge stance are based on the piece(s) of evidence he currently has. The knife does the three-way split shot, the flower vase does a shot that arcs up and then down, and the photograph does a straight shot. I wonder what things like the envelope and the watch do?

Nova is so god damn vanilla. His name could be Super Hero, because he seems so generic and even the moves they gave him for the game are unimaginative.

That's not to say he won't be good(that over head he can do seems great to set up unblockables), but holy shit if his spot shouldn't have gone to someone with more flavor.

Phoenix looks cool, but his animations seem janky as hell. Everyone else in this game is smooth as butter, but his are seriously lacking. I'm wonder how many people will pick him up since his level 3 requires a lot to do in order to get the most out of it, and the rest of his move set didn't seem too cheap.

Still feeling Iron Fist the most out of the new characters.

That's another good question actually, whether or not he can submit bad evidence and still get a blue energy projectile out of it. So far I've only seen him submit good evidence, or throw either bad or good evidence away while in the Magnifying Glass mode.
 
So, Iron Man is potentially not awkward to use this time around? That's great news.

Nova is generic looking, but seems like a great anti-projectile character with a great (almost full screen?) otg for some combo extension. Possibly a good point man?

Phoenix Wright I have no idea what his power ranking is. He could be great, or he could be ass. Who knows?
 
Hmm. I thought Nova would have at least one beam lol.

Idk why, but he reminds me of Wesker. Maybe cause I'm dropping Wesker for him lol
 
Phoenix is so goofy, I can't wait to play him. Nova looks fine too, I thought he had healing field for a second there.

Well his dash is now awkward to make up for some of the awkward fluidity in his normals.
 
Alright last call. Everyone have exactly hour and 30 minutes before I am leaving. I am not bringing laptop with me but I will bring notebook and pen with me to write down with.

I will not have any internet access for few days but if I found it important to post then I will post on my phone.
 
I think Nova would have been better received if he was revealed in the first batch of characters, but Vergil / Iron Fist really raised the bar
 
I'm somewhat sad they didn't put in Questioning ~ Allegro 2001 as well, it's such a tense song. Especially given the fact how terribly Objection! is remixed.

I think PW looks super lame and out of place, but I look forward to bashing him senseless.

He actually looks like he's going to have some serious trouble against zoners

Only comparison I see is Skull Inferno. The rest are different.

The Beam hyper is only aimable forward but the main difference is that it is dependent on the amount of red health that Nova has. It instantly sacrifices his red health for an insane damage boost and this is probably the way that Nova has access to LVL3-esque damage from a hyper. Nova is UMVC3's only character to have a TVC like mechanic to him.

Maximum Spider? Maximum Spider isn't invincible on start up and can't go through anything that has some what priority. Nova's version goes through stuff making it a great counter hyper and since it only hits 3 times it's possible that you can link more stuff after it because it doesn't fuck up HSD.

This thread reminds me of the Strange reveal when people said Strange was like Magneto with traps. LOL...

He may look dialed in for most of y'all... but Nova looks perfect for my playstyle and execution level

I gotta disagree with you here. Just looking at him on his own, he looks boring and generic, even compared to the MvC3 cast.

Same, exactly why I'm excited for Nova so much. He's a potential candidate for Anchor on my Ryu/Iron Man/* team alongside Iron Fist.

Now this may prove useful...it really depends if you have meter to spare and can read your opponent well enough...mind you if you are quick enough to snapback a assist, surely you would be quick enough to TOD happy birthday them?
 
They made Nova more akin to how he works as standard Nova, not as fully powered Nova. And they took his Human Rocket-thing more into account.

I'm not disappointed in Nova, though, he looks amazing. And the fact they didn't give him portal/gravity shit actually means that a Herald of Galactus or Thanos have a chance.

His Pulse specials also use red life and the barrier comes up when he has more red life to sacrifice. It's a very interesting mechanic for a character in UMVC3 to sacrifice red health like that.

The Bionic Arm comparison is probably more apt but it hits everywhere so it's a great punishing hyper from long distances. His Max Nova hyper is for the punishment/utility, Inferno hyper for combo finishers and Beam for last resort/high damage option.

It's nothing... just an option for newbies who had trouble following up launchers with air combos. Option can be turned on/off default option is most likely off.
 
OK, so I just got back in and read through this thread and damn a lot has happened. The Air Dash block nerf is WHOA, the S launcher changes are interesting, someone seriously needs to shop "HOLD THAT" into one of Phoenix's bubbles, the Days of Future Past Metro City poster is fucking clever (Ruby's the Capcom Carmen Sandiago though, no way she got caught, calling b.s on that :P), Nova is awesome, and all in all, I am now crazy hype to hear what the plans are for the rest of Ultimate.

I think it was debunked a while ago but can you check if Thor has a new move? Royalflush gave us the rundown on the increased range on his command grabs but he wasn't checking for new moves.

Well PW looks extremely imaginative, but it certainly doesn't make me want to play him.
They may look boring, but they look useful and very combo friendly.. I'd much rather that over something flashy without utility

I plan to do Thor because I <3 him and he is my favorite character from marvel series, along with She-Hulk and many.
