Why do people think critics are applying more scrutiny this Generation? I've never heard this standpoint before and quite curious to understand this.

Not sure. IMO the only two games I've played this generation that deserved 90+ imo got it in Bloodborne and The Witcher 3. This generation simply has not had a lot of amazing games. Lots of good ones though.

4 hours of review bloodbath follow by Atlus Persona troll, best day in video game history.

Damn I forgot about their announcement. If they don't announce a release date they can fuck off. Reaching Square Enix leveling of trolling now.

I am a big uncharted fan and am especially excited for uncharted 4 as i have, and am continuing, a complete media blackout. I personally feel that i ruined some of the enjoyment from uncharted 2 & 3 by consuming all media that was released for it. Things are different for uncharted 4!

I expect some high praise but am excited regardless what reviewers say.

Probably one of the few games where i really don't give a single fuck about reviews.
Preordered and trembling with excitement to play it. I have no doubt in my mind that i will enjoy the hell out of this game.

I think this whole belief that critics are harsher is grossly exaggerated. People just mad that games they were hyped for ended up disappointing.

Standards obviously change with time, but that doesn't mean critics are getting harsher. It means games aren't getting better.

I kinda feel for the mods with this one. It will review very, very well because Naughty Dog, but there will be a few outliers and those are gonna generate an absolute shitshow.

This when the carnival of stupid starts.

Dunno how any of you can predict reviews or metascore of a game you havent even played yourselves. No, Betas do not count.

*queue responses pointing to my irrelevant tag.

Low 90's would be an uninteresting Metacritic score for UC4. The review thread would be more entertaining if the average score drops below 90 or goes above 95.

This makes no difference, but weirdly, I'm kinda curious about what the review/critic count will eventually be on the Metacritic page. The Order: 1886 currently has 94 reviews, Bloodborne has 100, and Until Dawn has 103.

94 MC. There is always the brave (ehem...) outlier for reasons so personal and deep to the reviewer that they span outside consensus.

Most anticipated game on GAF, most anticipated review thread. #1: It's known it's going to review well, and get glowing reviews at that. #2: It's also known that some outliers will exist and as such, those outliers will be thoroughly examined and picked apart as to try and decipher the reason for the reviewers score. When something appears incomprehensible (and/or BS to a particular individual), some sort of shaming will be involved on the call out. Just how it works.

Theoretically what stops NG from releasing a legitimately "ok" or "good" game (70-90)? People would buy it regardless, and nobody would believe the review scores despite never having played the game themselves.

Also is 90-94 really considered bad? lol

It's just guessing a number, not something to be taken super duper serious.

It happens in every review thread.

Has there been any mention yet if picking up ammo is done automatically now? I'm replaying UC2 right this minute and it's a great game but the amount of times I pick up a different gun when I just want ammo/grenades is insanely annoying. Please fix.

I'll bet it's 88-91, it won't get as many perfect scores as TLOU or UC2, plenty of 9.5's and 8.5's though.

The first trickle of impressions and rumors from reviewers indicate most reviews will be glowing (as in expecf a lot of 9s and 10s), but scoring seems to have gotten a bit rougher this gen for AAA.

Expecting 92-93 MC average, which would be excellent imo.

I think there's a trend with reviewers scoring bad or alright games lower than they might have last gen, which is what most people base reviewers being harsher off, but the same argument could be made for good or great games scoring higher nowadays as well. Most sequels that have come out lately have not been as good as their predecessor's, so they review lower, most new IP's aren't perfect, or even close, so there are rough edges that hurt them. What people see as being harsh is just the times, based off what other games have done and what people expect from this generation. There are only a few games I feel were harshly or leniently reviewed, but most I feel got what they deserved based on the times, not reviewers being more harsh.

The only real supporting evidence for this that I can think of that critics are harsher, is a few are paying attention to the online components of a game, some reviewers won't put out a score until they've tested multiplayer when it's in the wild for everyone, and dock points if it's not ideal, and doesn't improve over a period of days. But even then, it's only a few reviewers who do that, and that won't kill a score.

Jesus Christ this is embarrassing, I never knew about this before. As a diehard Uncharted fan, I hope it gets under 90 meta just for a repeat screening of fanboyism.

Thread will explode if it gets below 90, in fact below 90 for this game i can´t see it happening after Bloodborne 92 or MGS V.

But we shall wait and see, for now everyone seems to love the game here.

Let it rain 10's!

To anyone who thinks that this'll get a MC score below 90, you're dead wrong. Naughty Dog ain't mucking around here. It's going to easily land in the 92-96 mark.

There are going to be 7 and below reviews regardless of the quality of the game, can almost guarantee it. A game this high profile is going to draw contrarian viewpoints, if for nothing else because those viewpoints gets the most attention. Not just in games either, Armond White has made a living out of being contrarian for contrarian sake. Go look at rotten tomatoes, the first rotten score of a universally praised movie is almost always the most clicked on and talked about.

Not to say all negative reviews of highly praised media is contrarian, but just saying that 7's and below will happen because some or many of them are. Throw on top of that Uncharted as a series has its detractors and franchise fatigue....

All that to say, don't freak out if it happens. If you are a fan of the series I doubt this game will disappoint.

I wish I had your optimism.

Come on, man. This is Naughty Dog we are talking about. They know what they are doing. Get on the hype train.

However, the metacritic score is just a number. I'm having fun with waiting for a good score and discussing about the score, but in the end of the day, the most important thing is to enjoy the game.

Oh I am hyped as fuck and buying the game day 0

I'm expecting 84, lower than Ratchet.

LOL.

- A Naughty Dog game.
- The best team within Naughty Dog.
- The last Uncharted game.
- The amazing footage/trailers.
- The glowing impressions.

And you think it's going to have a MC of 84? You don't know what you're talking about or you're simply drunk. :P

I'm expecting 94-96.

It's going to be the highest rated game of this generation so far without counting remasters.

4 year development cycle. First ND Gane on the new Gen. NDS last Uncharted, multiple delays for extra polish. I'm expecting a masterpiece. Will review as well as TLOU. So 95.

Any word on if they fixed the shit aiming from 3? I wanted to replay 3 before 4 comes out and I only made it to the ship part before giving up due to the broken aiming.

I will definitely be keeping an eye on the review thread. I hope it's as entertaining as the UC3 and Order 1886 threads.
