Uncharted 3 is 92 and remaster is 86 so this will definitely top that from the little demo they showed. I think Jimquisition will give it the lowest score. There are just so many cool things going on that aren't in other games. I think this is going to be up there with Last Of Us.

The only thing that I can think of that will mark it down is the
grappling hook
if they overuse it, in all the videos it looks amazing but in the MP beta
I couldn't swing to save my life.

Sorry, but just because it might be a better game it doesn't mean it will get a higher meta score. ;)
There are a lot of examples where a game of a IP has a lower score, but is considered as a (much) better game among its fanbase.
GTA IV > GTA V is a current prime example for that.

They're going to show their ass.

I'm not.

Seems harder to get universally really high scores across the board these days, but I guess we'll see. Every impression so far has been absolutely glowing, and there's been a fair few.

I think GTA IV is a better game than V to be fair, plus standards have totally have changed since 2011.

This will be a fascinating game in terms of reviews. My general impression is that critics are entering the game a bit skeptical. The industry has moved further away from linear games since Uncharted 3. People also expect upgrading and crafting mechanics in basically everything these days. Plus I feel people are ready to pounce on any feeling of "been there, done that". Tomb Raider also came out recently and did very well. All things considered, the game has to be pretty fuckin' amazing not to disappoint people. I'll predict a 90 Metacritic.

Standards have changed a lot but I don't know if gameplay has actually progressed to the same degree. For example, with the exception of maybe MGSV, it's not like third or first shooters today are actually better than those of previous generations, even when those older games are played and compared today, by metrics beyond maybe visuals that is. I still find the controls, gameplay, pacing, overall degree of content etc better in games like GTAV, Uncharted 2, Bioshock, Gears of War (1), Halo 3 etc, compared to say Quantum Break, The Order 1886, Halo 5, The Division, Rise of the Tomb Raider and so on.

I will say that Uncharted 4 does look to be mechanically superior to previous Uncharted games, and a much more comprehensive offering (from the meatier campaign right through to the rich multiplayer), so who knows, if the narrative, pacing, characters, story etc also maintain their quality in a similar way, maybe it'll buck the trend.

I love how this thread keeps getting brought up years later, but I'm quite certain there was another game that got a few low reviews and the response was even worse. Any older members remember what game that was?

Quantum Break just recently, specifically regarding Jeff's review and Angry Joe's. And that game still received a more mixed reception overall, though still generally positive.

I think this will see several 10's from media oulets. 94-96 Metascore. Game looks absolutely unreal. Naughty Dog are still the industry leaders in terms of consistent quality.

I'm too afraid to go into other Uncharted threads out of fear of seeing spoilers. Any chance people can give an entirely spoiler-free summary of early copy impressions?

yeah im expecting reviewers to go quite hard on UC4. for it to reach the heights of 95+ in 2016 it would have to be an absolutely incredible masterpiece, which is honestly unlikely.

It's garbage and you should cancel any preorder you might have.

Of course the game is good, what were you expecting?

They've all been incredibly positive, like to a really impressive degree. Most saying it's the best Uncharted yet, better than 2, some saying it's better than TLOU as well. Then again, early impressions so who knows. I feel like ND have actually done well to keep a lot of the gameplay and story beats under wraps, so it certainly has that potential.

True that. I stop caring about early impressions a while ago, gotta wait until opinion after honeymoon period.

I am looking forward to May 10 and playing the game. The review score matters nothing to me, I won't even read any of them.
And whether the game ends up with meta of 95, 90, 85 or 50 will in no way influence my experience.

But I do hope it scores very well, I expect it to end up 90+, and that score will definitely help the game to sell even better than expected, bringing in newcomers and undecideds.

They all agree it's the best Uncharted. Game length seems to be around 14 hours average (maybe longer actually, look at nib's post below). Took one guy 18 hours to beat but he did a fair bit of exploring.

I'll also post this again

Yup. Have talked to several reviewers and have heard nothing but absolute praise. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the highest rated game this gen so far.

Good to hear that (I am also avoiding those threads...).

Won't stop one or the other reviewer to do a Kenneth Turanto and give it a 6.x, though.

What's ND's position about people streaming the multiplayer before release? Is it okay after the review embargo (assuming it will be unlocked by then) ?

I think average game time might even be longer. There's 2-3 people playing who are already past the 14 hour mark and not even close to finished yet. Given that the speed run trophy is for 6 hours (the other games being closer to 3), I'm confident it's going to be a really meaty campaign.

Twilight Princess with Jeff "8.9" Gerstmann and IGN giving Double Dash!! a 7.9 seem like likely candidates.

I think it will be the best rated game of this generation thus far.

Which I think is anything better than 92 on metacritic if we don't count GTA I think?
