BIOGRAPHY:
The twin son of an Irish immigrant and his American wife, Owen Casey had a promising academic career with aspirations of becoming a prosecuting attorney. When his brother Orsino was killed during an operation in the Horn of Africa, however, Casey changed his career path entirely and joined the United States Army. After successfully graduating from both Ranger and Airborne school just as his brother did, Casey quickly made an impression with his teammates thanks to his deadly combination of aggression and intelligence. After multiple tours of duty in the Middle East, Casey applied for and joined the Special Forces, aka the Green Berets, where he could apply his education and natural talents more regularly. Unit 13 has recently taken notice of Casey’s talents and accomplishments and has welcomed him as its newest member.
PERSONALITY:
Animal is a curious combination. He’s highly intelligent, quick witted, and a team-oriented soldier with disciplined rifle skills, but also incredibly aggressive -- bordering on savage -- when fighting in the battlefield. He earned his nickname because of his penchant for violence and his impressive unkempt beard. Between missions, Animal likes to read whatever he can get his hands on and religiously trains a minimum of two hours per day.

TECHNICIAN
j2E3ZtIvP3Rtw.png

BIOGRAPHY:
Raised by a single father who spent most of his time on the road as a classically-trained stage actor, Christophe Renard’s early life was a lonely one. He spent most of his childhood fantasizing about joining the military and often pretended to be a World War II soldier using various costumes and props from his father’s collection. As the electronic age swept over the world in the early 80s, however, Christophe found a new passion in computers. After completing his studies at a military secondary school, Renard joined the Armée de Terre where he combined his love of software and combat as an infantry technician. Persuaded by commanders who respected his talent and confidence, Renard joined the Special Forces Brigade in 2000 and had key roles in operations near and in Central Asia and the Ivory Coast. Unit 13 called in 2008.
PERSONALITY:
Irritable and self-confident, Chuckles is a methodical thinker and hates being reminded of mission objectives because he’s typically already finished whatever he’s being reminded about. He is not a fan of humor and feels that the battlefield is a place for seriousness and complete concentration -- which is why he is somewhat bothered by his ironic nickname given to him by the rest of the crew. He isn’t above complaining about things that he feels haven’t been done right, either.

GUNNER

BIOGRAPHY:
A lifetime resident of California’s sunny San Diego, Varro Hernandez craved a different destiny from his family of hotel resort operators. Drawn to the lifestyle of US Navy personnel stationed at Coronado Island where his parents worked, Hernandez grew into an impressively-large physical specimen whose love for action movies and the martial arts guaranteed his decision to join the Navy right out of high school. After his enlistment, Varro aggressively turned his focus towards joining the Navy SEALs, and accomplished his goal before his 21st birthday. Following several successful operations in Central Asia and the Horn of Africa, Hernandez was recruited into Unit 13 at age 27 – making him the youngest-ever member to be invited or accepted into the group.
PERSONALITY:
Despite his physically-imposing size, Python surprises new teammates with his warm personality and passion for completing missions. He truly enjoys his job thanks to a steady diet of action films and his lifetime study of the martial arts. He remains incredibly calm under high-stress situations, sometimes even bordering on giddy, while showing no hesitance in risking his life to save another’s.

BIOGRAPHY:
A second-generation Englander that comes from a family of Nigerian doctors and physicians, Henry Ihetu graduated from Secondary School with high marks but bypassed his university studies altogether to join the Corp of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines at age 18. Earning a reputation for being one of his Company’s best Combat Intelligence Commandos, Henry spent the next four years in the RM before applying to and successfully joining the Royal Navy’s Special Boat Service on his first attempt. Assigned to the X Squadron, where he specialized in both dry and amphibious warfare, Ihetu quickly became a favorite of the British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) who frequently ran joint operations with the SBS, where he enjoyed major operational successes in Africa and Central Asia. Recruiters from Unit 13 took notice and employed Ihetu’s unique talents in 2007.
PERSONALITY:
A dedicated soldier and free spirit, Ringo spent a good portion of his life trying to prove himself to family that thought he was mad for not wanting to pursue medicine and to friends that perceived him as an upper-class snob. As a result, Ringo is not above reminding teammates and superiors of his accomplishments and is always ready to jump into battle, regardless of the mission or danger involved. He has a bit of a temper and can be irritable when doubted.

MARKMAN
jylVTxIsuQVJg.png

BIOGRAPHY:
Born to a family of career Marines, Matthew Rollins has lived and breathed the "Semper Fi" mentality for nearly 30 years. Idolizing both his Gunnery Sergeant father who fought and served in the Persian Gulf War and his grandfather, a First Sergeant who survived multiple tours in Vietnam, Alabama prepared for his future by honing his impressive marksman skills hunting deer, rabbits and squirrels while growing up. A natural athlete, Rollins easily dominated his Marine Corp training right after his high school graduation, eventually joining the Scout Sniper Platoon just weeks after earning the rank of Lance Corporal. Rollins was recently recruited into Unit 13 following an E-5 promotion, boasting an impressive 56 confirmed kills in his short but dedicated career.
PERSONALITY:
Though he was never in a fraternity, Alabama has all the tendencies of someone who should have gone to a party school. A highly dedicated soldier who loves his job, ‘Bama unwinds between missions by drinking, hunting, mudding, and going to family barbeques. He has been known to get into barroom brawls, has a tendency to shout when excited, is extremely confident (bordering on arrogant), and doesn’t mind one bit that his teammates call him Alabama because of his accent.

POINTMAN
jbrM65W3rucdbf.png

BIOGRAPHY:
Growing up in the bustling city of Munich, Arnulf Herrmann had a surprisingly comfortable childhood and was an avid follower of most sports and athletics. Though he grew up with a fiery competitive spirit, he also found himself an innate caretaker of family and friends following the death of his mother when he was still a boy. A natural leader and protector, Herrmann joined the Deutsche Marine immediately out of Secondary School when several of his friends enlisted as well. Hungry for action beyond that of a normal sailor, Arnulf’s physical talents and competitive spirit proved an effective asset in his successful entry to the Kampfschwimmer Special Forces. After seeing action in the Persian Gulf and several other top secret locations, Herrmann was recruited to the KSK Kommando Spezialkräfte, leading NATO-sponsored recon teams for the German Air Force. After being recommended by several of his country’s top intelligence and military commanders, Herrmann was invited to a position as one of the first operatives in the newly-formed Unit 13 in 2001.
PERSONALITY:
Zeus has been around the block. Having seen combat in nearly every major conflict of the last 30 years, the previously-extroverted boy has become a hardened war machine. And yet, despite everything he has experienced, Zeus still does what he does because he believes it’s what’s right. He looks out for his fellow operatives and combatants, is amazingly cool under pressure, and is looked up to as a father figure by every active and former member of Unit 13.

I'm really impressed too. How did you get those shots? Every time I tried to do it it paused the game and I got a nice capture of the menu screen.:p I was surprised at how easy it was to get headshots. It feels pretty good. My big issue is that I'm not crazy about the touchscreen implementation. Having the context sensitive touchscreen stuff in the center of the screen means you have to take your hand off either thumbstick to do it. I do like the touchscreen grenade stuff though.

Game seems like it could be really interesting, the mission in the demo was pretty fun and the leaderboard hooks seem potentially awesome. Controls feel good, aiming feels better than Uncharted. I am looking forward to the full game for sure.

Those screens look horrible. Thank goodness for higher pixel density on the system itself to cover that up though.

That looks graphically pleasing going by those quoted shots :p I like the lighting hitting the corpses, it gives off a KZesque feel imo.

There's an icon on the edge of the screen. You don't have to hit the center.

I was thoroughly impressed by the demo, especially by how well it controls. Feels an significantly better than Uncharted, and the touch controls are simply but work wonderfully for reloading, grenade tossing, etc. Will definitely be getting this day 1 in a couple of weeks. We'll have to get some GAF co-ops going.

Shame it's not native res. But after playing a Vita now, I realize that sub-native games look much much better on the Vita than in screenshots.

Captain Pants

I know the game isn't out yet, but I'm bummed that the 'buy now' option didn't work. This seems like a great game to have on the go. I love sneaking around pulling off silenced headshots and knife kills.

looks way better on the vita screen then in screenshots... ill definatley be buying this day one. Weird how we have to wait for it to be released when we have the full game on our systems already :/

So it's confirmed not native res?

It looks much sharper than Uncharted, upon inspection I was almost sure it was native res. Though, if that's how sharp it looks, I'm not sure I even care about games being native res.

Clever of them having Mission 1 in the demo, since in Mission 2 the game becomes so weird and not that fun (stealth only). I really wish there was competitive multiplayer in this game, but you can't get everything I guess.

Snuggles

erotic butter maelstrom
It seems uninspired, but I'll check out the demo. I wouldn't mind having a game like this for my Vita so I can blast dudes on the go.

Lupin3

Targeting terrorists with a D-Pad
Kinda fun, but it felt like a PSP game! They've got to do better than this! And no vs. mp? No buy!

Alexios

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
It looks bland but I'm hoping the gameplay delivers. Is it a straight up cover shooter or does it have AI, player abilities/gear and level design that all together let you mess with the enemies MGS style, confusing, outmaneuvering, and taking them down unseen? Can you setup skirmishes, random enemy placement, altered objectives, and other stuff for replayability? Hopefully you can reload and stuff with a button press too. All these impressions but nobody has said what the game is like yet, just the controls/graphics...

I don't know...I wasn't impressed with the demo. The graphics I thought were very disappointing. And the effects and other things weren't good either.

But its just a demo I guess.

The game is a pretty decent challenge at times. Dudes with shotguns don't fuck around.

Too much, actually. There are many missions where it fells like there's ONE way only to clear the challenge, expecially dynamic ones. I tried the same one over and over to check if I could clear it in some other way, but ended up losing one hour.

Also: terrible game. Sad to see Zipper sink this low.

Magnificent hyperbole. Where DID you learn your craft?

Images are in 960×544, so either someone scaled them down and upscaled them or the game is not in native resolution.

I think the consensus is that Vita screenshot function is unfortunately not that great. just keep in mind that the game in actual vita screen look way better than these screencap

wow this is awesome. add some story, same gadget and taser, and I and I can totally accept this as Syphon Filter game. it scratch the same familiar itch, for now, this will do. I still want my Syphon Filter Sony.

and love the big level layout. haven't tried playing with other class but eager to try. when is it out, this is a must buy for me.

Eh. As an old time SOCOM fan, I had too much time to practice. Any military shooter from Zipper gets me into SOCOMcycle.

Hoped this to be at least decent to get some glimpse of what a full fledged Vita SOCOM could be, but this has far too many old issues and adds some more of his own :(
Even the Slant Six developed SOCOM games for PSP were leagues better than this on so many levels. And I don't even want to compare this to Syphon Filter on PSP.

there's nothing Socom-like about this game other than it come from the same developer. you command squads in Socom, very different with this game. this totally felt more like Syphon Filter, although a bit more simplified since it didn't have various gadget Syphon Filter have (taser, dart gun, etc) good thing is the maps are bigger and more open in this game. I still have to play other character, I'm pretty sure I see someone can hang or climb in the trailer, so maybe other class have different ability.

we also don't know the scope of upgrading your ability in this game.

I can understand that. I quite like it, but I feel it's tough to see everything that the game does with this particular demo. We'll see. I quite liked the old SOCOM games, but the only one I played a ton of multiplayer was not exactly the obvious choice - I played the goddamn hell out of Tactical Strike online and loved every wonky minute of it.

Anyway, for me, Unit 13 is like speed-run Syphon Filter. Or The Club or something.
