I'm not sure where you can point to anything i said about voting for a third party in the presidential election to be the way to create civil liberties accountability. perhaps you could point me to where i did.

pointing out selective hypocrisy from the left and the right in deference to their "team" is accountability, and there should be more of it. you disagree, great, we both have our opinions. shame only one of us can be honest though.

Oh, I charitably assumed you had an actual point or idea about this election - the topic of this thread - and weren't just trying to suck your own dick and do the "lol GAF hivemind lol" thing.

My mistake.

Regardless of what Bush is guilty of, trying him for it would not have been any better a way for this country to move on. It would have been the surest way to get the Republican party and its constituents to circle the wagons around the guy, rather than throw him under the bus like they've done instead. We'd likely be even less moved on than we are now.

I don't buy this notion at all. A lot of people don't even realize Bush can't freely travel the world because he has committed War Crimes. When the facts present themselves in a case, only the lunatics would have continued to support the lunatic. Fuck the lunatics. :)

thanks, real classy. beat the shit out of that straw man until you can't reply anymore with anything but bullshit ad hominems.

because discussions of the merits of the candidates hasn't happened at all in this thread, and totally isn't appropriate

That one trial in Maylasia which didn't mean anything?

Okay.

huh? what point do you think i was trying to make with that, show that i was smarter than you or something? as if my post formatting and spelling is not mockworthy and like i don't know it...i was simply sticking the letter into your post to correct the spelling. if you think i think that was some kind of sick burn, then ok...

and even if i stupidly thought it was, correcting a spelling error is clearly the same as telling someone they're sucking their own dick. seriously, wtf kind of bullshit is this.

You don't want to discuss the merits of the candidates, you want to talk about the hypocrisy of both sides and how disappointing it is to you, Foothills, the last honest man.

Fuck this apathetic shit because of some kind of political allegiance.

I'm going to put you to trial in SteveWinwoodLand and find you guilty for something, anything. Then you can't come to SteveWinwoodLand ever again!

That's what happened.

I'm not saying Bush didn't do some gnarly shit, but that trial means absolutely nothing.

You can enjoy something like politics while also realizing that the results have serious implications. You don't have to be all Sternface McSternison just because it has important ramifications.

And please, you cannot possibly be surprised that some people are very passionate and happy that their candidate may win - BECAUSE the issues are important and BECAUSE the results may directly impact that person. Naturally the home team cheering will be even louder than something like a sports match, where this same behavior is prevalent, because an election actually matters.

who are you talking to.gif? I really don't get you man. I start talking about a specific court case and bills, and you bring up something someone else posted hours ago. I talk about this guy making snide meta commentary like an asshole, and you post that i'm demanding he vote for a third party.

your name should be non sequitaur

No you are right. I am just frustrated or get frustrated by GAF and the world. My apologies.

No, I contribute actual discussion of the candidates, such as noting Obama's bad record on civil liberties. Does that get me in the Foothills non-hypocrisy club for non-hypocrites? I hope so because I'd really like to rail about how both sides are so bad.

No. It is important. Local issues all the way up to voting for President. And its important after super tuesday, and will continue to be important, with just as heavy a GAF focus on 2014 I'm sure. On some of your points you'd find pretty wide Poligaf support in principle, but the actual strategy and fine print of achieving change isn't as sexy or quickly fulfilling as a protest vote at the final hour.

The arguments have been made and the votes are being cast and tallied. So yeah, your timing sucks.

I don't think you understand how this works. You accuse him of apathy. I'm generally curious -- is this how you view all people voting 3rd party?

You began this discussion speaking about the role of corporations in this election. I continued that, talking about how the best way to protect civil liberties and eradicate corporate influence from our political system is through liberal-minded judges, even while admitting Obama's disappointing record on civil liberties. Apparently, this response rattled your world view. For that, I apologize.

I really don't know what this means. at what point did i say people voting third party are apathetic. that doesn't even make sense. And at no point was I talking about the role of corporations in the election, at all. I really think you're confused about who's posting.

.

enjoy the election everyone. looking forward to 4 more years of eroding civil liberties myself, whether the 90% guy wins or the 10% chance guy wins.

Is this a "I don't want to have an honest discussion because I've already ingrained all of these beliefs in my head and don't want to drag it out of my ass to understand the world view an opinions of others" posts?

you missed my edit, and I really really am not trying to be a jerk when I say i think you're really really confused about who you're talking to. quote the post where i was talking about the role of corporations in the election. i posted a case and an article on warrantless wiretapping dude...

What does that mean? That people who don't vote third party and don't "open their eyes" are apathetic? I'm generally confused.

Maybe I am. It's probably because both posters who are relying solely on their 3rd party wanking talking points don't have avatars.

EDIT: Actually, no, fuck that. The first post in this thread that I responded to you on was concerning wiretapping. And where I said the best way to protect civil liberties would still be to elect Obama as a way to get liberal minded judges on the court. So, no, I have no fucking idea what you're talking about.

You know, I would like to see a third party become president.

Just because we would finally see Democrats and Republicans work together again....in making sure they were the biggest lame duck president in American history.

I said this thread.

Yeah I wasn't criticizing your post but just the general population attitude towards politics. If you turn on the news its like watching a sports game these days rather then ya know the news lol. I like you gaffers, wouldn't post here if I didn't but sometimes you frustrate me

No. If it was a Green, you'd see the Dems coalesce around that party. If it was a Libertarian, the same. It would be exactly the same.

As an outsider to this Election, I'd be increasingly interested to see the outcome for the US and indeed, the world. I think if Rommey wins, then the US will be sent back in time to the 50s. Please America, don't be stupid and elect this insane man.

ok i'll ask again what the hell you are talking about: where did I ever at any time in this thread talk about the influence of corporations on the election?

I understand your first point and it's frustrating. Still, I like the back and forth you guys have. It stimulates me. Intellectually. I lurk in the PolliGaf thread and no one really challenges them and they want to be challenged or else they resort to arguing on Facebook and talking about it here. It's sad.

seriously, wtf are you talking about.

I was using Citizens as an example (I even bolded it here for you) of a way to correct the eroding power that we have in this country. The same way that a liberal judge would be more likely to overturn wiretapping laws. Which was the first...

You know what? If you want to continue to babble on without actually realizing the practical ways in which our country works and the best ways to achieve your policy goals, all while failing at comprehending how a message board works, go ahead.

You thought Ron Paul was going to win the gop primary.

I hoped he would. But I generally do think Romney will win because this election polling is more accurately determined by the popular vote polling than individual state polls. There's an article on this, hold on

You realize that Obama is winning the aggregate polling for the national vote, right?
