The venom on both sides is pretty disgusting, honestly. Not just the idiots on facebook claiming the country is doomed, but the people wanting to "drink the tears" as well. And it would've happened no matter which guy won. Sucks to see how the country has become so divided.

So long as we have the attitude that everyone on the other side is the enemy, nothing productive is gonna happen for the country. Gridlock is gonna prevail. But then again it's election night, so some immaturity is to be expected I guess.

God, the local coverage here in Australia is saying now Obama needs to extend an olive branch to the Repubs, like he has been obstructionist. :/

So a question to all the democrats in this thread.

What is your opinion on the popular vote vs electoral college? I wasn't of voting age when it happened before, but as I recall a vast majority of democrats were whining and crying when their guy lost to Bush because of the electoral college, and from preliminary results on a few websites I've checked, namely CNN and Fox News, it looks like the reverse happened this time and Romney got the popular vote, but Obama got the electoral college.

Does this change your opinion on it at all?

As a guy who voted for Johnson and thinks the electoral college is a complete and utter joke that should be abolished, I would like to hear some opinions. I'm not trying to kick any hornets nests or cry bitter tears, I did not expect my guy to win in a million years, but I am genuinely curious.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
I can't wait to see the "NO OBAMA" sign I've been driving past to work for the past six months finally be taken down or "OMG WTF AMERICA YOU SUX" in it's place. The tears will be delicious.

In regards to foreign policy and corporate welfare, I agree. In regards to meting out some degree of social justice, I think we're a little better off than we were in 2004.

The difference being that Romney would have been scrutinized for these things. Obama will brush of any criticism with his great PR/by being a democrat.

As a non-Democrat leftist, I still think the electoral college should be abolished. It is inherently anti-democratic.

This guy on fox news saying Romney needed to differenciate more from obama. Maybe they really are going to move further right. Thats only going to make things easier for the democrats, but an overall shift left would be best for this country IMO.

As a Louisiana democrat (this is one of those states where it's complicated to be an Independent), even if my vote was just a fart in the wind, getting up at 6am to vote then spending my evening with the lady of the house and our cats watching Rove have a mental breakdown has been one of my better experiences.

Man I was hoping Reps would take this gracefully. Romney, what are you doing?

I have this disturbing thought of him walking out on stage and shooting himself or something. Like a Budd Dwyer thing. I hope they just concede and move on.

Er, we've got like what, 14% of CA reporting in and 50% of both WA and OR? Obama will win the popular vote too.

I do wonder who most of the states do winner take all for electoral votes? Why is that?
